Any Fall '07 CSULB EL-MSN applicants???
k8star, I actually am finishing up my second semester here at CSUF. It has been a challenging and crazy ride, but I am happy that I made the decision to stay at Fullerton. It was a tough decision for me as well to decide between CSUF and CSULB. I have learned a lot and have had wonderful clinical rotations here in the OC. We have a brand new skills lab that has enhanced our learning so much, through mock codes, practicing skills, ect. Nursing school is going to be tough no matter which school you choose, but I am content with my choice. The faculty is awesome at Fullerton...always there to help:D If you have any specific questions about Fullerton, let me know... Good luck on your decision. I know it will be tough. nskoog

Direct Entry MSN CSUF
Hello, I am currently an EL-MSN student at Cal-State Fullerton. Almost all of us in the program have had to quit our jobs before entering the program. A few people still work a couple hours a week. The program is very intense. I have managed to live off of loans and a tuition grant. I took out both the Stafford unsubsidized and subsidized, a Federal Perkins, and a private loan. Almost all of us had to do the same.. Sometimes, you just got to do what you gotta do.. Taking out loans to live is worth it to get your RN. Most hospitals pay back a percentage of your loans for fulfilling a two year contract with them when you graduate. There really are not any scholarships for 1st semester EL-MSN students. There are more offers for scholarships later on in the program. It also depends on the program. Well, I hope this helped you a little. Good luck:) -nskoog

Direct Entry MSN CSUF
Hello Mitkatze, I've gotten half of my titers already at the school. The TB titers is really cheap. Just do it there. Because you are enrolled in the fall, you can use the health center's services but because you are not in summer school there is only a ten dollar fee. You can pretty much get all of the titers done there if you can't get them anywhere else. Hope this helps. See you all at orientation! nskoog

Any Fall '07 CSULB EL-MSN applicants???
Trust me, it was a VERY hard decision. I was accepted to both schools with almost the exact same program. I really liked CSULB's program because of the second degree BSN. Fullerton is not offering the second degree option at the moment. They BOTH have great programs and have wonderful reputations. However, in the end, I chose Fullerton for more personal reasons. The number one reason-- The faculty. They are awesome. They cared to speak with me, to hold meetings and show us around. They held interviews and we were able to meet everyone of them. At CSULB, I felt like I was "bothering" them anytime I called or had a question. It just seemed as if they didn't have a personal interest in any of us and I wasn't excited about that relationship. Everyone I talked to had the same opinion, but in the end, most only got accepted to one or were closer to that school, so chose to stay. I think once these programs start in the fall and we will have gone through the first year, we can give better advice about the programs.. And trust me, I will be here to help anyone because I knew the feeling when I was applying and trying to decide. Hope this helps.. -nskoog

Any Fall '07 CSULB EL-MSN applicants???
Hello drkentrystudent, I've been told a couple of times that we will have the option of choosing a "route" after completion of the MSN portion. There are still three years until we even get there so I'm sure everything will be planned out before then!

Any Fall '07 CSULB EL-MSN applicants???
I chose to start the program this fall at CSUF and there are several routes (Nurse Practioner) that we can pursue after completion of the EL-MSN. There is nurse anesthetist, FNP, WNP, Midwife, and a nurse administration option.

Help! I'm not a quitter, but...
We will fulfill the pre-licensure requirements to sit for the NCLEX in the first 18 months. All of us have previous BA degrees. This is an EL-MSN program but I know some people will quit after receiving their RN and not finish the whole 3 year program (the MSN portion). If they do, they will still have a BA degree and a diploma for the RN, but it will not specifically be a BSN. Does that make sense? In a nutshell, school #1 is going to award us the BSN after the first portion of the EL-MSN and school #2 is not because they do not want us to quit.

Help! I'm not a quitter, but...
I already have a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. I just want to know if getting an RN without it being a BSN is going to matter because I already have a Bachelor's degree.. When you have a previous BA and you are entering nursing, they call it a "Second BSN."

Help! I'm not a quitter, but...
I was wondering if anyone had any advice or knowledge that might be helpful to me.. I recently got accepted into two Entry-level MSN programs. I have a previous BA degree and I will start in the fall.. I need help deciding whether or not it is smart to quit after recieving the RN license or continuing. This might determine which school I choose.. The first school awards a second BSN after 14 months and we are able to sit for the NCLEX. After passing, we continue another 16 months and recieve a MSN and are termed "Clinical Nurse Specialist." The second DOES NOT award a second BSN, but we sit for the NCLEX after 18 months, and continue another 18 months for the MSN after passing the NCLEX. We also are a CNS after completion. My problem is, I want to stay a bedside nurse for awhile. I know there is going to be no difference in pay when I graduate b/w an ADN, BSN, or generic MSN degree.. I love school #2 and the faculty is awesome. I think that is really important. However, they do not award a second BSN. If I were to choose not to continue with the rest of the program, work for several years, then decide what I want to specialize in...would that hurt me because I don't specifically have a BSN but will have an RN and BA from another field???? I am desperate to know if it matters, otherwise, would it be smart to accept school #1 and recieve a second BSN and then work??? I have never been a quitter, but I would like to possibly prevent myself from any extra schooling.. As of right now, I don't know what I will do when the time comes. I have never been a nurse, but I have heard from MANY people that a generic MSN will do me no good. I do not want to become an administrator or teacher. Sorry so long! Any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! :)

advice on getting into an accelerated program??
Hi! I just got accepted to an accelerated second-degree MSN program that starts in the fall and I thought I would share my opinion with you.. My bachelor's degree was in Criminal Justice and after my internship, I was in the same boat as you--I knew I would not enjoy being a lawyer. So, I decided to pursue my first love of nursing, now that I'm older and wiser and more dedicated. Having several years experience working in accounting is NOT going to help you get into a program. It might help you financially, or to realize even further that you don't want to pursue it, but my advice would be to focus all your time and energy into these pre-requisites. You can no longer change your undergrad GPA, but you do control the outcome of these pre-requisite grades... Almost all of the accelerated second-degree programs weigh the pre-reqs the most (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Chem., etc.). I took a year and a half to complete all of them, taking one each semester. I wanted to take my time and do well, and I succeeded doing that (4.0 pre-reqs). Working full time and taking classes is hard. Because of the competitiveness of applying to these programs, you almost can't afford to get a "B" in any one of them. You are the only one who knows what you are capable of.. I worked part-time as a cocktail waitress and focused on the pre-reqs and it worked. It did not matter where I worked before because in reality, everyone will be "starting over." Others in my classes who tried to work full time, ended up not doing as well, and ultimately they didn't get into the program:( My advice, take your time. Accept a position that will allow you to study hard, learn the material, and get a good grade.

What is everyone dissecting for Anatomy Lab?
In my anatomy class last spring, we dissected two cadavers! One elderly male (about 87y) and a female cadaver who passed due to cancer (57y). It was sooo awesome! To get the opportunity to work on real humans and see their anatomy and study their organs was way cool. At first it's a little scary, but you get used to it.

Acceptances for the year 2007
Accepted to Cal-State Long Beach's EL-MSN and Cal-State Fullerton's EL-MSN starting Fall 2007!! Now all I have to do is decide which one...uuugghhh..I didn't think it was gonna be this hard--they are both so much alike!!

Direct Entry MSN CSUF
I know what u mean too..I graduated from CSUF in '05 and was also conditionally accepted last year to finish my chem and physio..I didn't think my GPA was super great (3.71 last 60 units) and 4.0 pre-reqs. There was another girl in my current class who had a higher GPA than I and got wait-listed..So I am definately sure they took other areas of the application process seriously (like interview, letters, statement, etc.)

Direct Entry MSN CSUF
I know there's at least three of us that I know of, myself and two others in my previous classes...I haven't heard from anyone else in my current class getting in. It's hard because I feel so bad and do not want to show that I am excited around them because they are all really bummed..(I'm taking Physio right now) Can't wait for that package though:rolleyes: I hope they send it out soon. I can't wait to see if any of the other applicants I interviewed with got in..They all were from other schools.

Any Fall '07 CSULB EL-MSN applicants???
Well I talked to Monalisa Ward last week and asked her when we would be receiving notifications and she said she would try her hardest for the first week of May, but most likely they wouldn't be out until the second week..She had to wait for everyone's paperwork that was postmarked by the 15th... Did you apply anywhere else?

Direct Entry MSN CSUF
Yeah, through my titan online..CSUF told me how much they were going to give me for the '07-'08 school year. You can still apply for financial aid. I would do it quickly because the funds available now are limited because those that applied earliest and before the deadline get the bulk of the financial aid. I applied in February...
