How much is school costing you?
It is not costing me a penny other than an 18 month commitment at the local hospital. They are paying 100% of my tuition and related expenses.
-
Ages of male nursing students?
34 and just finished my first semester of actual nursing school. Three more semesters to go.

Predominately White Shoes....
haha...hilarious! I'm thinking about the Croc Bistros...they have slip resistant soles and have vent holes on the side. I'm also looking at the Dansko clogs.

Need your support guys.........I Feel like a real pansy!!
Good call...not fighting is not considered being a pansy. I'm a trained fighter and the last thing I want to do is to get into a fight. I am definately not a pansy and dont' think anyone that avoids a fight is either. It's smarter to walk away and avoid the situation than it is to engage. The only time I would engage in a fight is if the opposite party threw the first punch and then it would only be enough to subdue the attacker with as little harm as possible. Brains over brawn will win out everytime. It does help to have both though. Always remain calm and in control and that is exactly what you did. Bravo!

Best PDA for nursing school??
My school doesn't allow the Blackberry type cell phone pda's. I was going to get one of those if it was allowed, so now I'm not sure what to get either.

Spring 09 Hopefuls
Where are you applying? Harford Community College, Maryland What is your GPA and/or points for your school of choice? 3.8 with 24 out of 25 points. The only way to get that last point is to retake a class, which I am NOT going to do. A 3.8gpa with 24 points is almost guaranteed a spot. When is your schools deadline? October something When does the acceptance letters go out? no clue What is your plan A, B, C...? Plan B is to apply to the accelerated summer program

Hey guys....How do you all support yourselves?
As of right now I'm working as an accountant. I just finished up all of my pre-req's (all were available at night, so no problems there). Once I get accepted into the nursing program I'm going to attempt to rearrange my current work schedule to possibly work longer days or work in the evenings and make up any time on Saturdays. If that doesn't work out I guess I'll have to look for part-time work somewhere and start draining the emergency fund.
-
What pre-reqs are you taking this fall?
Absolutely none! I just finished my last pre-req (Microbiology) and can now apply to the nursing program. I just don't know which program I want to apply for; Fall or Summer. I think I'm going to apply for the fall and see if I get in. If I do I'm going to ask them if I can give up my fall spot if they will let go to the summer one instead. The summer program is an acclerated program and is actually over before the one that starts in the fall.

Need Help w/my Sociology Paper
I have to write a paper for my sociology class and need to ask a few questions. The thesis of my paper is: Men in the nursing profession are given more respect by medical professionals (doctors, co-workers) and younger patients than females but are often mistaken for doctors by elderly patients and even looked down upon by society as a whole. If anyone is willing to help me out I would greatly appreciate it. 1. Will you consent to the information you provide to be used in my Sociology paper? 2. Do you feel male nurses are respected more by medical professionals (doctors & co-workers) than female nurses? 3. Can you provide any specific examples to correspond to your answer in question #2? 4.Do you feel that younger patients (kids, adolescents and young - middle aged adults) are more respectful and accepting of male nurses? 5. Can you provide any specific examples to correspond to your answer in question #4? 6. Are male nurses often mistaken for doctors by elderly patients? 7. Once the elderly patients find out that the male is actually a nurse, how do they react? (surprised, shocked, unwilling to accept treatment, disrespectful) 8. Are male nurses respected or looked down upon by society in general? 9. Can you provide any specific examples to correspond to your answer in question #4? I want to thank everyone in advance for their help. I read a post once that said surveys were not allowed so I apologize to the board if I'm not allowed to ask for this type of help. I'm still kind of new here and am unsure if my post is ok or not. I posted this twice, once in the general forum and here in the 'Men in Nursing' forum. I did this so I could get a general population to help me and from just the point of view by men. Again I apologize if I didn this incorrectly. Justen (pre-nursing student)
