Bonus for Flight Nurses in Maryland/DC?
Hello. I heard some hospitals in the Washington DC Metropolitan area offer some sort of bonus or incentives to Flight Nurses. I hear maybe Children's Hospital and University of Maryland. Would any of you happen to know? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

name that hospital and its starting salary
Washington Hospital Center is $27.673 for new graduate (someone with less than one year of experience). I think their new graduate rate is the highest in the region. Several other hospitals pays around $25 per hour. Shift differential is 20% permanent evening and 25% permanent night. But if you don't commit to the shift, it's 10% evening and 15% night.

RN new graduate rate at GWU and other area hospitals?
Hi there. I have a RN friend of mine who is interested in working as George Washington University Hospital. Any idea as to what the new graduate rate is and any other information? Thanks. I told her I know that the new graduate rate at the Washington Hospital Center is $27.673, and she is wondering if GWU's is the same, lower or higher.

Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
In my hospital for example, you could still be hired as a NP with no RN experience but your salary would be less than a NP with RN experience. However, as a PA, we would count your paramedic experience. Somehow, we only look at RN experience (in addition to NP experience of course) when deciding how much to offer a NP; but for PAs, in addition to the RN experience (most PAs don't) we also look at their EMT (Emergency Medical Tech) experience.

NPs exempt (salaried) or non-exempt (hourly)?
Thanks. Where I work, NPs are salaried but we get premium pay for additional 4 hour shifts (our base rate - not overtime - X 4 hours). But someone told me that most NPs are hourly.

NPs exempt (salaried) or non-exempt (hourly)?
Hi there! Are NPs in your organization exempt (salaried), or non-exempt (hourly) thus with potential to get paid for overtime. Thanks.

how do i approach this topic
Educational Reforms in Nursing could entail talking about the possibility of requiring at least a BSN degree as opposed to only an Associate degree before you can practice as a Registered Nurse...I also think that in the next few years you will need to get a doctorate (like with the pharm D) to become a Nurse Practitioner..........

what is per Diem position means ?
Per Diem nurses make more money but get no benefits. You will usually replace staff on leave......

how do i max my income as new grad
As with other respondents, there usually is not much room for negotiating rates for staff RNs, particulary for the new graduates. The rate is usually set, and if the RNs in that hospital, etc. are represented by an union, then the rates are even more predetermined. Your best bet, I would say, is to choose, what some hospitals called Weekend Alternative Programs or Weekend Incentive Programs, whereby you commit for ie a set number of months to work every Saturday and Sunday for 8 to 12 hours per shift. Either you will get a substantial shift differential, or you will get a bonus - like some many more hours paid. So if you work 24 hours per week (12 hours each on Sat and Sun), then instead of you getting paid for 24 hrs you could get paid for i.e 30 hours, thus a bonus of 6 hours. Overtime is also a good way to enhance your pay.

New Grads- what starting rates are you seeing?
To BoonersMom: Also, keep in mind that it is perfectly OK to put down when asked on a form what salary you desire, something like "Negotiable" or just leave it blank. Also, to tell you the truth, I doubt it that one can really negotiate the rate since the rate is usually the same for all new graduates. And many hospitals will have a predetermined rate based on your years of experience. I think, but I could be wrong, that staff nurses are among the jobs for which rates are not as negotiable as for other jobs.

New Grads- what starting rates are you seeing?
To Ready4crna: I agree with your saying "I say to nursing students and newgrads...take punishment in a high acuity teaching hospital setting...." Given a choice between working for a high acuity teaching hospital and a lowe acuity/non teaching hospital, I would choose the former. The job may be more demanding and tiring, but it will pay off in the long run.

New Grads- what starting rates are you seeing?
The rates for new graduates are in the $23-$25 range in the Washington Metropolitan area with WHC starting their new grad rate at close to $26, and many other hospitals at around $24 (ie Inova, Sibley).

Internships at GW Hospital
I too have had a very hard time getting information from GWU. I think the Nurse Recruitment Manager is Yomi Lawal something. Phone is 202 715-4405. Have you tried contacting other hospitals? I am assuming you are talking about the fellowships for new nurse graduates, right? And Not the internshisp for nursing students. You should consider also calling Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown.

D.C. Nurses: how much do new grads make at your hospitals?
Of all the hospitals in your list, Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital,George Washington University Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital,INOVA Fairfax Hospital, I would recommend the Washington Hospital Center. They have excellent Fellowship programs. It is an extremely busy hospital and acuity is fairly high so you will be get great experience. As for rates for new graduate nurses, the highest rate is also at the Washington Hospital Center - I believe. Their starting base rate is close to $26. Most of the other hospitals' graduate rates are in the $23-$24 range. I recommend that you call the recruiting department of each hospital and ask to talk to a Nurse Recruiter. They will be more than happy to provide you with the information you need.
