  1. At our hospital a lot of our pt get iv K+. If they do not have a central line we pharmacy always adds lidocaine (with the dr order of course) and it can be piggy backed in. But you still have pt who are overly sensitive and still have burning with it. We just have to deal with it on a pt to pt basis. But you are right it has to be calculated and labs watched carefully. We have pharmacist on all of our floors who calculate and a pharmacy who mixes everything for us to everything is checked and double checked.
  2. Took mine on March 12, had around 85 questions and passed. You probably did fine. I know how you feel though, even with everyone telling you that you probbably passed you still can't relax. Just do whatever you can to stay busy. Does your state have quick results? Luckily I only had to wait about 30 hrs to find out. Lea Anne:nurse:
  3. Hi guys sorry haven't been here for a while just started my new job and been kinda busy. Just seen where I'm supposed to do renal meds. 5. Hi Miss JKM, I will be working on a tele floor, it is considered the step down unit of ICU where I work. I worked there as a tech and loved it, but a little worried now that I will Be working as a nurse. I hope your dream comes true with 75 q's. I pray thats what we all get and pass. I was just wondering what is SATA?
  6. In KY we have to work 120 hrs as an RNA before we can take nclex. I don't start work until Jan 14 so my guess would be taking nclex first of March. All I am using is Suzannes guide. Just started the second step. Good luck to everyone.
  7. I also live in Ky. I graduated Dec 07 and don't start work until Jan 14 so it will probably be March before I can take Nclex. From what I have heard KY did the 120 hr thing because new nurses were not getting the proper orientation time so they figured if we had to do 120 before Nclex we will have at least that much orientation. I thlink it stinks but what can you do. A girl that I graduated with went to Ohio to work and her nurse manager said it was like Ky was going backwards instead of forward, but like I said what can we do? To answer your question I do not know of any other state that requires this.
  8. Thanks for your post. I just graduated in Dec 07 and am starting to work on Jan 14. I am terrified because I feel that I know absolutely nothing. Congratulations to you on finishing your first year and good luck.
  9. We were taught that the normal range was 8-21. An older adult >90 is 10-31. But I would think that NCLEX would go by the younger adult range. I don't have a link but we did use a lab book that had this as a normal range. Our lab book is Davis's Comprehensive Handbook of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests. Lea Anne
  10. Try this site www.conquercollege.com and click on amazing grade calculator. It will let you put in your grades and how they are weighted and then calculate what you need. Remember to chage the grading scale to what your school scale is. Good luck to you. Lea Anne
  11. Hi ooper3076, don't worry it will be over before you know it. So are you in second level now? Don't let it get to you to you, this level was not to bad for me. Good luck to you and let me know if I can help you in any way. Lea Anne
  12. Hi again 1OldDinosaurRN!! I worked atEMRMC as a PCT about 2 yrs ago and loved it. But I haven't decided if I want to work there again. I think I will probably put in at all of the surrounding hospitals and see what choices I have. Lea Anne
  13. I feel the same way, finally someone from EKU. I am in the ADN program and graduate in Dec 2007. I don't know much about the 4 yr program but the ADN program is a killer. My class atarted out with 104 students and we have 60 in our class now and that includes the ones we picked up who unfortunately didn't pass a class and had to be reaccepted. From what I have heard the 4 yr program is a lot slower paced though so you will probably will do fine.
  14. Hi 1OldDinosaurRN I am also from Lincoln Co. I am in my 4th semester at EKU and doing my 120 hrs at Eprhraim. I can't wait to graduate and become an RN.
  15. I'm glad I am not the only one feeling this way. I too am in third level of a two year program and feel like I know nothing. Someone can ask me a question and I know I should know the answer but I am "dumbfounded" like you said. I am so worried about nclex and the real world. I was a CNA before I started nursing classes and that helped first and second level but this semester I don't believe it has helped at all. My grades are ok and I always get good evals from instructors but it just seems like everyone else knows so much more than I do. Good luck to you and maybe we are worried about nothing, I Hope.
