My advice is to try and work in a healthcare facility BEFORE you graduate. A lot of times if you work as a SNE (student nurse extern), then you have a better chance of getting hired.

Hancock Regional in Greenfield has quite a few LPNs. I started there as an LPN and love it. I do know that in May of next year they are going to team nursing. Not looking forward to that though....

Some of our Docs use the computerized dictation. It's downright pitiful. If any of those documents ever go to court....Lord help us. lol

None of my patients ever get a "bath" with wipes. For poo and the like...the wipes are fine. I think what comes around goes around and I NEVER want a wipe down with those nasty wipes. Ick...

People are just rude. Most of the time I just let it slide. But...I have had one patient's family member get in my personal space. Less than an inch behind me, looking over my shoulder while I was typing on the computer. I can't deal with someone in my space. It's threatening to me. Ugh...people.

The differences depend on the state/hospital that you work in. I work at a hospital in Indiana and right now, the only difference is that an LPN cannot initiate blood and cannot do an admission physical assessment. Oh..and they cannot "note" their own orders. That's it. The pay increase is significant. I went from LPN to RN and my pay difference with shift diff and weekend option pay was almost $18/hr. Quite a jump.

All of our nurses are required to wear Navy scrubs. I personally hate it. Patients think anyone in scrubs is a nurse. We do wear name tags that say who and what we are, but it still doesn't matter. Scrubs=nurse

I got into the Muncie and Richmond transitional program with 2 A's and 2 B's on my classes and an 86 TEAS.

I feel your pain. I was in the last month of clinicals for the RN program and had to help a girl who had no idea how to change a bed with a patient in it. *sigh* Granted, she had no medical background before nursing school and I had been an LPN for several years, but it is still just the basics. I almost felt sorry for her because she will probably be so overwhelmed at her first job.

The hospital where I work did not offer the mist to the employees. Anyone admitted to the hospital has a compromised immune system. Our hospital chose to only administer the injectible virus for those reasons. As for the original poster....the great thing about America is that we are able to choose.

I try not to wear mine around my neck. The oils from your skin get on the tubing and breaks it down. My step daughter had to have hers re-tubed for that reason.

Why would it be any different than taking it during the day??

If you already have a BSN why not look into IUPUI's accelerated BSN to BSN program??? You already have a BSN and that should be a quicker route. JMO

Just curious as to how many times you can the NCLEX-RN?? I work with a person who has taken it and failed it 6 times in the last 18months. Isn't there a limit???? What is the process when you fail it that many times? Thanks!

Don't beat yourself up. It was water. No one died. Learn from it and move on.

I work on a cardiac unit. Sometimes we say... Get the magnet. (for the pacemakers) Mean...I know. It's all about the coping skills. lol

OMG....I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have 5weeks before I graduate and I am dying!!! I already work in CCU as an LPN. I don't know everything...I will always have something to learn. That being said....I am so bored. I have already done my CCU rotation and I'm doing Med Surge/Oncology now. I have trouble making myself go to lecture. Just keep telling myself....5 more weeks.

You may want to check into Anderson or Muncie. I know at one time they had a part-time RN program and some of it was in the evenings.

At the hospital where I work, I cannot monitor blood for the first 15min. An RN must do that. I also cannot do the initial physical assessment for a new admission. I cannot note my own orders either. Other than that.....I take care of critical patients on vents, drips, etc. But...I make MUCH less than an RN. Needless to say, I graduate with my RN in May. :)

From what I understand...MedTech's program requires you to take all of "their" classes. English, ANP, etc. You may want to confirm this with someone actually in the program. I am currently in the transition program at IvyTech Richmond. (love it!!!)

I will tell you this about Med Tech College....None of your current classes will count towards anything. You have to take THEIR classes. All your current schooling counts for nothing. ugh.

How many times have you taken the NClex? Did you not pass the NClex or not pass nursing school??? Where I attend, if you don't pass a portion of the program, you have the option of going back and finishing just that portion that you failed. I certainly would not give up.

If I'm not mistaken, the financial aid awards are running behind this year. According to my financial aid office, it will probably be at least the first week of August. If you filled out your FASFA, then they will notify you of what you are eligible for. All you have to do is accept it or not.

Frankly, I think it's funny. Maybe poor taste for an instructor to pass this along. I think you may be taking this way too seriously. This list is not a list of what to do in those situations. If you work around many nurses, you will see that a lot of them (us) have a strange sense of humor that people who aren't in healthcare wouldn't understand. It's a coping mechanism. JMO.
