How's your dating life?
My girlfriend and I met IN nursing school! We started dating in first semester and here we are, in our last semester of the program and we're still goin strong. It has been amazing!. We get to spend a lot of time together and we both understand the stressors of school, which we help each other out with.

You're going to think I'm nuts
Clinicals can be hit or miss. Some days I have a great nurse who really wants to teach me, but also understands I am a student and I dont know everything yet. other days it seems like the nurses just want to make you feel bad about anything you dont know. I guess it has allowed me to see what kind of nurse i want to be.

You're going to think I'm nuts
I hate nursing school and everything it stands for. get me out of here ASAP. everything from the finagling instructors and haggered nurses I deal with at clinicals to the NCLEX style trickery.

Grooming for male pre-nursing students
My hair isn't 'long' but I do rock the shaggy/curly/messy look. Ive been doing this for the past 2 semesters of the nursing program and finally in my 3rd semester a micro-managing, finagling professor had the balls (or, ovaries) to call me out on it! This is SO ironic because EVERY nursing professor I have had has LOVED my hair (older women love a young handsome shaggy haired male). Long story short, she made me comb my lustrous curls into a wavy looking poof ball which made me look like I was wearing a helmet. My answer is no, you may not have to cut your hair, but expect to be called out for it at some point by a nursing professor that has no clue about current trends and/or styles in mens hygiene.

Best hospital for working OB
from my one day observational experience in the Mayo L&D unit, that place would be AWESOME to work at, but as a male, I probably don't have a chance. Reasons I liked that floor: Doctors were around a lot- made me feel like I could consult someone with more knowledge than myself at any given moment, it was a 1 to 1.- I'm sure some mothers can be very demanding of their nurse but on my particular day the nurse had it pretty easy, everyone was very good at what they do which (i believe) makes you perform to a higher level. hope this helps!

Moving to Rochester, MN Feb, 2012!!?
Rochester can be a tough place to live if you don't know anyone- I moved here when I graduated from HS in 2008 and really struggled the first couple years, until I got started in my nursing program and met some really good friends (you already know how going through nursing school brings you together). My advice is to move in with someone similar in age/interests to you (same gender too). If you have a family member here, don't move in with them, it will discourage 'branching out'. (I moved in w/ my sister, free rent was nice, but hard to make friends). As creepy as it sounds, search craigslist for places to live if your having trouble finding someone. You'd be surprised by how many young nurses and health care professionals are looking for a roommate, and if they work at mayo, they are probably not a creep and can obviously pass a background check (always a positive) Be outgoing! going out for dinner and drinks is fun here because there is a nice downtown area. If possible, try to live as close to mayo/downtown as you can- it makes it a lot harder to get together with people when you live on 'the north side' or in my case 'the south side' as was my case. I've been in your shoes! if you have any questions, just ask, i'd be happy to help!

stimulants for night shift??
well my thinking is that when I take it during the day I'm not fighting sleepiness or fatigue, although at night there is a certain level of drowsiness to overcome. So i guess what I'm wondering is there a huge difference between taking ADD meds during the day (to stay focused) and taking them during the night (to overcome drowsiness) maybe I'm highly over thinking this.

stimulants for night shift??
Currently I am prescribed Ritalin for ADD. Being a stimulant, it obviously has effects on alertness/'awakeness' and the like. If I were to work the night shift when I graduate, would taking Ritalin to stay focused and alert throughout the night be incredibly harmful/addicting? illegal? Any input you guys have would be great!
