  1. I get so angry at the day and evening crews due to the fact they are constantly making the remark that 'I should work night shift since all they do is sleep'. But you know, I never see them volunteering to work when my shift is needing covered! I h...
  2. Night shift nurses-a few questions

According to my administrator.....all night shift does is sleep. And no we do not. All the duties mentioned above, we do as well. As the one poster said, there is ALWAYS something to do on night shift.
  3. New graduate and just got a Job in LTC facility

I always made a 'cheat sheet'. I wrote down the treatments and the times and who they were for, what time the med pass was etc....then I went home and organized it all. Sure there are situtations that will pop up that will make it difficult to foll...
  4. can you lose your job for posession

Do you enjoy 'inhaling second hand smoke' or is your nursing license more important to you? Only you can decide that.
  5. I'm leaving LTC

Oh Lord, you have described the place I work to a t! The work is hard enough without having to put up with the unnecessary crap. I think what gets me the most is the backstabbing coworkers....and the two-faced ones as well!
  6. Monthly summaries

I hate doing monthly summarys for the simple fact that I work nights and mostly only observe them sleeping!
  7. Charting Time of Death

At the previous facility I worked at, a woman passed away and I called the family and the physician, etc. When I called the physician (which was around 2am) he whined and said 'I don't have to come there do I? Just record the time of the death on the...
  8. Need Pep Talk, Please...

It is hard to find a good facility, but it usually mellows out after about 1 to 2 weeks, if you can stick with it that long. Alot of the problem is trying to get thru the orientation aspect of it so that you can then 'do things your way'. That was ...
  9. Getting out on time?

I work from 10pm to 6:30am. I do my charting around the middle of the shift and then should anything happen towards the end, I can always go back and add to the narrative. At 6am the next shift comes in and from 6am to 6:30am we have report....same...
  10. LPN Tuition-how much did you pay?

I started in August of 1991 and graduated in June of 1992 from vo-tech. The total cost of the program was $1200.
  11. Ativan - her problem, or mine?

I would document in the nurses notes to cover myself, her request for the PRN and state why she said she needed it, her LOC before and after, etc.
  12. Skilled Nursing Charting

Oh, OK! Yes, I was definitely charting way too much! Thanks so much.
  13. Skilled Nursing Charting

I have been a nurse for 15+ years and have been working at a skilled nursing facility for the past 4 months. I have never had to chart on skilled before and was not shown how the facility expected the form to be filled out. The front of the form is...

  15. Giving Baths At Night. Agree Or Disagree?

I worked at nursing home years ago where they were getting confused and disoriented residents up in the middle of the night to give a bath to because that was how it was scheduled. After a call was made to our state board of nursing by one of the ai...
  16. Pureed Sweet & Sour Pork and other Reflections on LTC

It's not about the resident's or the care anymore, it IS about the almighty dollar. And it just gripes me to death when I hear 'well the state says they have the right to fall'....ARGH! One of our SNF residents really could benefit from hospice comi...
  17. night nurse who leaves everything undone..

    Ain't that the truth!
  18. Why did you stay an LPN?

Not necessarily. It all depends on where you live. In southeastern Oklahoma where I live, there are alot more opportunities for LPN's compared to RN's. I love being an LPN and would NEVER consider in a million years being an RN. Period.
  19. night nurse who leaves everything undone..

I have always worked the night shift and have been an LPN for 15 years now. I had a little lady that had to be straight cath. I had performed this at 5am. I also done a small med pass around 6am which consisted mostly of Lasix. Went off duty at 7...
  20. Is LPN school really that hard?!

I too had to deal with one Nazi instructor and the other instructor was afraid of her own shadow therefore she never done anything to 'rock the boat' where the first instructor was concerned. That woman made my life a living hell and I would literall...
  21. Talk about having your feelings hurt!!

Everywhere I have worked they have always had an LPN in the position of ADON. You just have to do what you feel is best for you. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
  22. NEED Help Studying for the Boards!!!!!!

Buy a Lippincott review book for LPN NCLEX. You will not be disappointed!
  23. Took my boards today and....

I studied from Lippincott and every single question was straight out of the book I studied from....couldn't believe it. But then again, that was 15 years ago!
  24. I Passed!

Congratulations! I still remember that good feeling of when I passed 15 years ago.
  25. Incident at work.. what happens in this case?

Should state step in and want to do a further investigation....all you have to do is tell the truth. Don't worry about it. State has so many things to investigate, nothing may ever come of this. What I usually chart when a resident is aggressive i...
