CLEP and EC
From what I have heard from those who have taken the EC English Comp exam it *is* very tough. No one that I have personally talked with who has taken the exam has made a grade higher than a "C" - although I'm sure some have, just none that I know of Far better to take the class and transfer it to EC - but then that's just my .02 :) regards - Bill

CLEP Credit- for pre reqs and RN to BSN
Good advice! :) At this point, EC *DOES* accept the Human Growth & Dvpmt CLEP for Lifespan. It's been crazy, first they did, then they didn't, and now they *DO* again! regards - Bill

EC and nursing concepts
Mona - Nursing Concepts 1 & 2 may still be taken prior to enrollment. There is also still the waiver of Nursing Concepts 2 for LPN's graduating from an NLN-approved program within the past 5 years. Hope this helps! Bill

Can anyone advise me on checking out an online RN to BSN program?
EXCELLENT advice! Canyon College claims accreditation from the following: Central States Consortium of Colleges and Schools, (CSCCS) The National Board of Education (NBOE) The American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board (ANMAB)* *info from Canyon College Website None of these three so called accrediting agencies is a federally recognized agency -ergo, no financial aid. Canyon is not accredited by one of the regional agencies (for example, the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges) either, which means that should you desire to pursue graduate work at a regionally accredited institution your Canyon BSN would be worthless. The University of Wyoming program is excellent. As are the ones offered by the University of South Alabama and Fort Hays State University. If independent study is your thing, the BSN offered by Thomas Edison State College is very good. All of these are regionally accredited colleges or universities, and, if I recall correctly, all of the programs are at least NLN accredited. Hope this helps. Bill

Excelsior:Lifespan and Dev plus Literacy reqs
Hi Jnette - You are quite right about the Lifespan as of two years ago. However, EC now *DOES* accept the CLEP Human Growth and Development in place of the Lifespan exam. IIRC, it is pass/fail though, and no grade is assigned. Very confusing, as first they did, then they didn't, and now they do. LOL EC also accepts the DANTES Lifespan Developmental Psychology exam, and they do assign a grade for it. Hope this helps. regards - Bill

That's how I read the interpretation of the law too. I think there are three parts that must be met in order for OT to be cut: 1. Pay must be quoted as salary, not hourly; AND 2. Must exceed $400 (can't remember the exact figure) per week; AND 3. Must be classified as "administrative" The way I read it is if your pay is quoted as an hourly rate, you are still due the OT. I will try to find the exact article and post either it or a link. Hope this helps. Bill

general education courses for excelsior
Greetings List - For any of you who are interested, I think I still have a copy of "What Should I Take." This was a list of all reqirements for the ASN at Excelsior and includes recommended courses and where to get the credit for the lowest cost. It gives a listing of the ECE, CLEP, or DANTES exam which will meet each requirement. It was designed by some of the members of RNStudyGroup and some of the other Excelsior yahoo groups. PM me if you would like a copy and I will try to dig it up. Please make sure you include the email addy that you would like for me to use when sending the list. regards - Bill

Online Microbiology Classes
Xoe - Colorado Community College (the system) offers both A & P and Microbiology online. An advantage to their program is that you also get a lab credit, which is required by some state BONs. Hope this helps. Bill http://www.ccconline.org
