  1. I'm not sure, just took note of the high carb diet ordered and stopped reading. I should mention that this is a fictional pt in one of my books and no other information is available. But why a high carb diet? Thanks...
  2. Why would a morbidly obese patient be put on a high carbohydrate diet? I would think the opposite. This pt was admitted for cellulitis of the right lower leg. Why a high carb diet? Thanks...
  3. I just got the study guide "book" last week and have been looking through it a little. I still have that literacy class to pass, and I'll do that this week. Then nothing left but the CPNE.
  4. Just wondering why there is a workshop in Cali when we can't practice there unless you have previous RN experience. Who's her local clients she speaks of?
  5. Did you take any review classes?
  6. Thanks for the info, I'm taking this test in less than 2 weeks...
  7. Not sure what she is talking about but the TCN guides seem to be very good to me. I am on NC2 and after reading a topic, I went back and skimmed through the chapters they said to review, and I would have to say TCN hit almost every topic. I would recommend them, but buy them off ebay!
  8. I'm a medic in the excelsior program, and my advice is to get your LPN then RN, not medic then RN. If you get your LPN and get a job, they may help pay for the program. Also if you are an LPN, you can skip to NC3. Good luck! By the way, when I graduated paramedic school, I realize now how green I was. You don't know anything when you graduate medic school. I have 8 years as a medic now on a fire department and I work in an ER as a medic too, and I get reminded everyday how much I don't know. I'm on NC2 now, and although 90% of the information I've seen before, you have to know and understand it as well as apply it, which I never really had to do. Good luck...
  9. I'll definately have to get that one then. Thanks!
  10. I do take the practice tests, and I agree that they are a big help. I was looking for a NCLEX review book that will go over the individual sections as on the NC study guides. For example, an acid-base balance section that will give me a review on acid-base balance and have NCLEX type questions with it.
  11. I am going to take NC2 in a few weeks, and I was wondering what NCLEX review books most closely resemble the type of questions I'll see on the Nursing Concept tests. If you have an opinion about any of the review books, please let me know. They are about $40 dollars each, and some are in plastic and so I can't look in them to see for myself. Thanks!
  12. 2 weeks ago I took NC1 where I scored a 77%. Practice test A I also got a 77%, practice test B, 82%. So, they are pretty accurate to what you will do on the real thing.
  13. This was not for a nursing job but the hardest interview question was: Define integrity, and tell us a situation where you showed integrity.
  14. The first test I bought all the books for and went through the EC study guide. I got a C, and it took a while to go through the books. This time, I spent $36 and bought the college network NC2 study guide on ebay. I'm still going to go through the books, but just skim them, I'll use the network study guide as my primary source of studying.
  15. I'm in northeast ohio and am currently enrolled. I only have to take the nursing courses since I took everything else at a local college. I just finished NC1, and am having a little trouble with study motivation right now, but I plan on taking NC2 at the end of next month. Good luck!
  16. Willtm is exactly right. I brought a calculator and it was refused. There was one provided. Everything must come out of your pockets and into the locker. You will sit there with the locker key and your ID. When I went recently, there were MD students taking a neuro test. The only sound in the room was the sound of the door being opened occasionally. You are given ear plugs if you want them. Good luck!
  17. Ok, about 30 minutes ago, I got home from taking NC1. Let me tell you it was no walk in the park. There are many situational questions. Difficult ones where I really had to think. I don't believe I studied enough to apply what I read, since I got a C. I am usually a good test taker, not this time. Since it was NC1, I am going to revise the way I read and study for NC2, which I plan on taking before the end of October. Not only do you have to know the material, but make sure during your reading you understand all the terminology in the books. For example, know what erythropoietin (not sure if I spelled that right.) is. Not much more I can tell you, the practice tests were a good indicator of what I knew though. I am more of a concrete thinker, recalling facts etc, and not so good at applying a theory. Good luck!
  18. 2 year in a crib, they could crawl out.
  19. FYI - when you register for the nursing exams online, it takes 2 business days before you can schedule it with the testing center. My 2 business days are up tomorrow, and I hope the testing center can take me on Saturday morning.
  20. In my opinion, and I'm scheduled to take NC1 in the next week, the EC study guides are as vague as you can get. They are not easy to follow to research exactly what they want you to know. Maybe it will get easier as I go through the nursing exams, but for now, they don't help much.
  21. Professional development systems? Can you provide a link? Thanks.
  22. I'll be taking NC1 on Thursday. Ask away!
  23. Hello. First post, and I have to add my 2 cents worth. I'll be taking excelsior nursing concepts I soon, and I'm a paramedic. I work in an ED part time and let me just say that the new grads that I've worked with from a traditional 4 year nursing program, well, let me just say I'm not impressed. I've answered more questions and showed them how to do more things than I can count. They are timid and very unsure of themselves. I had to explain to the patient what was happening and what to expect. Maybe it was just the one's I worked with, but wow, I figured if the hospital will hire them, we from excelsior will have no problem. There's alot to say about experience.
