I read your other post about wanting to get into active nursing. I was inspired with that. You should go for it, you'll never know how many patients under your care will be blessed if you wont. Then I've read your very brave revelation here, I was doubly inspired. No, triple inspired...I'm humbled...there's so many things to learn from your experience...I really admire your courage to stand up after that great storm in your life...God has great purposes for you knowing He has bestowed you with so much talent and wit, and one of it, obviously, is this- to serve as an encouragement to us. It's just as good as admitting he's guilty...but then he's the one who will be in jail so typical of being human, he should save himself too. Solving - or trying to solve - big time cases like Lucas' takes a lot of messy processes and involves amazing medical experts and consumes a great deal of time and money...but when you leave everything to the Lord, even when youre still here on earth, you'll have the answer to your questions that only your heart can know... I suspect that the US may make it mandatory in the near future to require those that attended school in PI be required to pass the NLE. It actually was required back when the CGFNS exam was required. And you will probably see it again, if not just as a weeding out exam. I agree with this presumption. Since the sprouting of nurses here in our country who wants to work abroad is alarming, it wont be too far that this will happen. And should this happen, there would be again perhaps, an 'uprising' on the part of pre-grad nurses complaining of the mandate since their brains are programmed that after marching up the stage, they could march straight to NCLEX, bypassing NLE. June 2006 NLE scam should have been already a lesson for these nurse wannabes...In their want for an easy pass, a total opposite result happened. Worse, along their fall, they drag everybody else with them. It's not that we (older, experienced nurses) want these new grads to take the hard way (as what's supposed to be if you have the heart for NURSING). It's for their own good and advantage if they pass the local board exam. Financial need is out of the question here because if they can afford NCLEX, why not NLE? Besides, if they wanted SO MUCH to become a nurse, for sure they would look forward to tending patients (in their hometown or wherever as long as in the Philippines first) after getting a license. Sad its no longer the case here mostly. I hope we Filipino nurses shouldn't see our degree only as a vehicle to go to other countries, but mainly as our authority to perform by heart as modern Florence Nightingales or Good Samaritans of our time, which is far more rewarding than anything else. Sure, who doesn't need money? My point is, let's get it nurses (Filipino) in a more deserving way.

I checked NSCBN myself and....thank God! NCLEX is here now in the Philippines! Well, those who took the exam already wouldn't regret either since HK (and others where nclex testing is offered) is such a nice place! Let's all study harder...God has already made it easier for us! Thanks to you! I already sent an email to this address maybe 3 weeks ago...asking pertinent question re IL BON application and a request for fingerprint card. I did got a reply that my message hs been forwarded to a certain department to be filled (or filed, typo error probably). Was wondering if I could get the card either from them or in the embassy.

Is there any requirement in getting a fingerprint card (IL BON) for my nclex application in the US embassy? My nurse friend in Manila offers to get it for me, she's asking in what department will she get it. Thanks ahead, a lot.

AMEN! Waiting is hard but it develops in us a great character. Most of all, what's the best time but the Lord's? There's so much we can do while we wait; Aside from preparations (exams, applications, hospital experiences) , there's a job that is always hungry for workers: God's ministry. It has no vacancy, doing it will keep our minds and hearts occupied on something that will make our accounts in heaven higher and higher...for one of the greatest principles in life is, "SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED UNTO YOU." Matthew 6:33 If we do God's business first, He will take care of our business, too! In no time, we'll just realize it's boarding time to get to our destination.

My primary reason was the uniform. I love it. Then my cousin encouraged me get the said profession as he also took the same; He with his goal to work in foreign countries, I with my desire to wear those uniforms and inject. But when I really got hold of the concept of nursing during my college years, my shallow reason (loving its uniform) mutate into more profound ones. Like feeling good when you insert an IV once (not twice or thrice) to a baby's veins, feeling relieved that your CPR was a success, feeling satisfied when you alleviate the patient's worries regarding her/his operation, feeling excited as you slap instruments on a surgeon's palm, feeling worthy when getting positive responses after conducting health teaching to certain groups, feeling useful when family and neighbors run to you for aid or advise about their ailments, and more... Nursing profession, among others, is simply beyond description...It can only be fully recognized after your healing touch and kind words has reached a patient's soul. God bless all nurses worldwide!

No, you don't have to be mean. Just because you have a big heart doesn't mean you'd be like those guys you mentioned. I understand your situation as being a nurse who cares a lot for my patients, I also am drained of my strength most of the time. But the sense of fulfillment is the one that gives me strength...knowing that at the end of the day you alleviate someone's discomfort and made them feel good, it gets you moving. :redbeathe: It's true that 1:30 (to say the least!) ratio could absolutely overwhelm you and make you less effective in the task but that can be managed. Just prioritize who needs most of your help...so by the time you get to the next less important task, you were able to breathe even just for a short while. Sometimes you just got to be wise in dealing with situations like this...Like in military tactics, sacrifices are made to save the team, not just the particular leader or member alone. In your case, you can go "deaf" (hard but you have to) for awhile on requests which you deem unnecessary. Sometimes a little firmness on your part will help. But if that wont work, you still have the option to jump elsewhere and start right. All in all, you deserve the best for being a great care giver! Hope you wont change that because it's totally noble. "In everything you do, do it as unto the Lord and not as menpleasers..."

Hmmm...I agree with madwife that this is off the topic already but to clarify, this friend of mine personally buys Tylenol (big bottle) for her mom when she goes home since her mom responds best to this pill in her present condition. The issue about the given pill from her patients, I'll endorse to her your statement about her "stealing" it as, to quote you, patients are being charged probably $5/ tylenol. So her hospital will also be informed of this as they don't bother much about excess Tylenols that fell off the floor. Thanks for the caution, though. We can get any meds for headache or pain wherever we are. It's just so happened that she shared me those Tylenols in her last vacation. And, about things that fell of the floor- pills in particular- i want to make this clear again, we don't give naked pills or one that is obviously stained or grimed (common sense)...If my stethoscope fell off the floor, I dont think I'd trash it away asap. Anyway, you can say a stet is different from oral meds, but the bottom line is, you just don't trash things that are securely sealed and unstained just because it fell off the floor, like in the case of fizz2nurse where her hospital has an issue about lack of pills supply. Knowing this, I believe we'd have second thoughts trashing in the bin a newly-arrived, tightly-packed Tylenols- or vials - that fell of the floor. Have a nice day!

We dont...Its sealed and clean and it's the excess of the patients' stock that they gave to my friend because of her great job for them...We nurses value the principle of asepsis, so dont worry...We dont give naked pills from the floor.

Actually the given tylenol wasnt pocketed..it's heartily given by my friend's patients ( as an act of gratitude ) because my friend is really on heck of a loving, caring, skilled and compassionate nurse in one of IL's biggest hosp. in the Tele area.

I really find this thread helpful. Thanks to those who spearheaded this. I have a lot of friends who had gone to US ahead of me but I havent been told of this. Maybe because they're also busy with their new job and had to adjust to a new culture that they forgot to share this important thing. Keep up the great work! God bless!

As for my hospital considering the meds (peeled out of its packaging) that has been dropped on the floor as waste, RN Dude, 'course we do. But to drop a sealed one, or a sealed vial, we don't see it as a waste. Well, we may have different hospital protocols eh?

The meds she had given me are safely, securely, individually packed. No tear, not holes nor any teeny-weeny bit of a dirt can be found. Maybe what you're referring to is a pill that's ready to swallow?

Thank you, I really appreciate your counsels. I guess I have to agree with that because everything has to be in order, rushing will only cause trouble. I dont know, maybe it's just my want to take nclex sooner that made me seem impatient with this one.
