I am also 6'5" and weigh 285. I buy my scrubs at bigandtallmart.com. Nothing fancy, one shirt pocket and a pocket for my wallet. The 2xlt fit well and are made of a heavy material. 28.00/set -Jason
  2. A few days ago had this one....exactly what she wrote on the sign-in sheet... "I am 9 weeks pregnant and having virginal bleeding" -jason
  3. I use craigslist quite a bit and people always have items 'for sell'. Also go to the post office a few times a week and when I use my card the clerk asks me every time ' is that credik or debit'. She is such a nice lady but that drives me nuts. :) -jason

I sent you a pm. Don't get discouraged about rejection because it is going to happen. I went on many interviews before i got hired. Most of them went great until I mentioned 'TPAPN' then it was 'we'll let you know' only to never hear from them despite leaving message after message. Hopefully you will find a director that truly believes people deserve a second chance like I did. I just started a new job 4 weeks ago after 4+ months of unemployment and so far I love it. -jay
  5. I have been interviewing quite a bit the past few months and have noticed most interviewers read from the same book. Nearly every place asks: What are your strengths?, What are your weaknesses or things you consider 'works in progress'? Why did you apply at this hospital?, How do you handle stress/adversity/difficult pt's? Why should we hire you? And don't discount your pediatric experience. Most ER's would love to have someone with that background (I know I would)
  6. Depending on traffic, +-45 minutes. There are 2 hospitals in or near Kingwood. Kingwood hosp, and Northeast (nehmc.com) for astnm: I don't know what website you are using but try http://www.har.com if you haven't already
  7. I don't think you will have a problem finding a job in south Texas. I frequently see ads in Nurseweek literally begging nurses to come to Harlingen and McAllen. Some offering bonuses of up to 30,000, relocation assistance, etc. Being a new grad shouldn't be a detriment. I do not have first hand experience so someone correct me if I am wrong.

to the original poster, you just have to do everything tpapn wants and get cleared to return to work. how long it will take is hard to say without knowing the details of your case. i am also enrolled in tpapn, relapsed two months ago and have had to restart the program. i am cleared to return to work but am also having a hard time finding a job after getting fired for the relapse. so i can just imagine your difficulty with a felony conviction. number one, get the paperwork turned in, get evaluated by an lcdc, addictionologist, or liscenced therapist, start treatment, do the 90 meetings in 90 days, order the drug testing forms. it is a lot of stress and finance in the beginning but it does get easier. just remember, tpapn is about protecting the public and getting you treatment. everything else (job, family, etc) comes second. send me pm if you have any questions or want to talk.... jason
  9. I had an interview last week and here is one that caught me off guard: Tell me about a time you witnessed someone do something unethical or dishonest, what did you do?

I agree with Jaky, it all depends if you like to commute in traffic, or want to live and work in the suburbs. There are many hospitals in the burbs - The Woodlands has several, Cy-Fair/1960 has several, Sugarland, Clear Lake, Conroe, etc. Where are you looking to live? I have 8 years nursing and initially took a pay cut when i moved from the 'med center' to the Woodlands but within a year i was making more. Now I would never make that drive and deal with the traffic again. And for coolvibes, is West U. compatible with a new grad salary?
  11. There are tons of hospitals in the Houston and surrounding areas. Try going to monster.com and see all the opportunities. It really depends where you want to live. The downtown 'Medical Center' hospitals tend to pay better but there is a higher cost of living there unless you want to commute and deal with the traffic. What area are you relocating to and it will be easier to give you some advice.
  12. Just curious what to expect. I want to change specialties and get in to HD and am wondering if most nurses get hired without experience. Thanks for any information you have. regards, jason
  13. Did they give you anything for sedation? When i worked in OP surgery we did litho's 2 days a week and i never heard of anyone not be able to tolerate the procedure. They were all done under conscious sedation. I would write a complaint to the admin about how you were treated.
  14. :smiley_aacongratulations.....................................explain leakage.
  15. yes, if you got suspended you knew it was coming if you did not change your behavior (call ins, med errors, etc).
  16. Still using the royal blue Littman my BIL got me for graduation. Works great!
  17. At my hospital suspensions are usually given after a series of progressive counseling. If you are suspended it is after verbal counseling, and two written counselings. I agree with the sentiment of your post though, some units i have worked it seems everyone is out to get each other.
  18. I have 'friends' who i consider in that category. they wake up-smoke- head to work-smoke- go to lunch-smoke- get home-smoke-smoke-smoke- eat dinner-smoke- watch tv-smoke...... they basically cannot even get dressed or do anything without 'smoking a joint' prior.:biere:
  19. At my hospital in Houston, nurses are required to wear either royal blue or white scrubs or a combination of the two. Shoes have to be either black or white. There was resistance at first to a mandatory color but the CNO of the hospital told us to form a committee and do it or she would pick the color for us. Nurses in the OR and L&D are excluded.
  20. Not quite sure what you are looking for but try a search on whatever disorder you are interested in. I typed 'fluid and electrolytes' on google and it returned 1,760,000 entries. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fluid+and+electrolytes
  21. I say go for it. My wife is 36 and we have two young boys (age 5 and an 18 month old) and she is about to start the prereq's. I did it part-time and as long as you are patient and dedicated it is no problem.
  22. Sounds like the easy answer is to become a nurse and work anywhere else but in the ER. There are plenty of nurses who want nothing to do with the blood and guts of the trauma room but are great in other areas. I worked in the ER for 5 years and loved it but have since moved on to greener pastures.
  23. At my hospital, it is marked on the bag how much is in it.
  24. it just seems like a tricky question. "c" is the only answer that states you are performing an intervention. the others are just random descriptions of patients. the required by law part is cheers, jay
  25. No, that does not violate the DNR. Is the pt awake and alert, comfortable, maintaining their own airway and 02 saturation. I'm just curious if there is a standing order to give Narcan for a RR of 7. cheers, jay
