What state do you work in? I think here in California they give you the amount of hours in covid pay that you work on a weekly basis, if you work 24 hours a week then you are given 48 hours or two weeks pay to recover.

Pacer was checked, it was failing to pace. Pt requested to be sent to SNF because he lived alone and only had a caregiver 3 hours a day. He has a follow up with Cardio. He stated he is 98 yrs old he probably won't pursue anything drastic just didn't want to be alone when he dies. Md came in and DC'd pt to SNF. So everything worked out for the best for him. Md actually said to CN I wasn't upset I was driving. Thank you to everyone for reading and posting. I just had to get it off my chest.

I ask my manager to cover for me if I'm too busy to take a lunch! If you start doing that maybe they will find someone to cover for you!

Regardless of your title you should not be treated badly. People can be mean! I am an RN and I treat everyone from the MD's to the housekeeping to the girl that delivers the food trays with the same respect! Unless they have done something not to me but to patients I will respect them all the same! But disrespect a patient or disregard the Pts safety that's a different story. I'm sorry you are going through this. If you feel comfortable just ask them in a professional respectful manner if you have done something to deserve the treatment. Maybe they don't realize you feel like this. I have learned a lot of people only think of themselves and unless it's pointed out to them they don't even realize they are treating someone badly! Communication is the key! Always start with that person and if the behavior does not change or if it gets worse then move up the chain of command. And I noticed someone asked if you were related to the MD's who cares!!! One of the guys that delivers trays his dad is one of the ER docs but I don't treat him any better nor do I treat him badly and he is in high school as well! Good luck!

Congrats! I'm happy it worked out for you! Being you are single maybe look into travel nursing! That would be fun! You can go to Key West for 3 months then Alaska the next 3 months! Pt comes in c/o dizziness n/v, pt is paced. Md orders for CM to set up pacer check appt made for 11/14. Telemetry calls and asked CN what type of pacer does the pt have? Asked pt he does not know, tele tech stated the pacer may be malfunctioning, CN advised MD of this, MD talks over CN he is rude and condescending told CN pt has pacer check on OP basis. MD orders for pt to be DC'd, nurse went to dc pt he c/o dizziness again. CN calls MD he yells and states I ordered pt to be DC'd, CN recommended for pacer to be checked stat, MD being condescending and stated well if you can get it checked faster then do it. Which CN could call pacemaker company in the area for stat interrogation, so CN received orders for a stat pacer check. The patient is 98 yrs old. Would you have insisted on an inpatient pacer check or would you have DC'd the patient and had him wait 13 more days? Just curious. I thought I was doing the MD a favor because I don't think he knew we could get pacers checked inpatient and stat but he thought I was questioning his judgement. Which in a way I was because of the s/s the patient was c/o he also stated he felt his heart was beating out of his chest. The MD has been written up many times for his behavior with nurses I.e. rude, calls some nurses stupid. I thought he and I had a decent rapport but I think I'm writing him up for his behavior this evening, or maybe just talking to him and explaining why I was insistent on getting it checked inpatient because with his age the pt might not have made it the next 13 days if it is malfunctioning. How long does it take for you to discharge a patient? And what does your facility require you to put in your discharge? It literally takes hours where I work. I am just trying to research why it takes that long. Thank you in advance for any responses.

Ok I'm taking transitions and Cultural Diversity this session. I'm so nervous, I have had one online class my whole life! I am thankful though I have a lady I work with that has been with Chamberlain for awhile and she is going to help me through this as much as she can! And I will keep updated with this thread so if I can pass on her advice here I will def do that!

I'm thinking nursing transition and algebra. They accepted my English Comp so I don't need to take that, but I need a math class prior to statistics. Which I do not mind because I would rather have a tooth pulled before I take an English class again! I despise writing long papers!

I literally just applied and will be starting the 28th as well! I'm so excited to get back to school and finish up! I am doing the RN-BSN-MSN, if my calculations are right it will be 32 months before I am finished. 32 months are going to pass regardless if I'm in school or not, so I may as well be educating myself!

That's all I would work extra per paid period, anymore than that I change my deductions on my w2 so all my OT does not go to my uncle! Then of course I change it back after the pay period. It's very common where I work at. Just my experience. I am not by any means a tax advisor! ?

What's going to be bad is if you take this position and then you are offered a full time position some where else after this company has put money into training you and you quit on them in a few months. I am not saying don't take the job at all, I'm just saying that would suck! I feel bad that you are in this position but you have to do what you have to do to survive in this world! Good luck! I tried the same thing three years ago and got the same reply and I passed. And a friend tried and it let her register for another test and she failed. Just telling you about my experience. Not making any suggestions.

Don't take it personal, how much experience do these other nurses have? But then again you can sit down with your charge nurse and have a professional conversation about how you feel. And ask her for help that's what charge nurses are for. Does charge have a patient load too?

I received my ADN from West Coast University prior to their accreditation with CCNE or even WASC, but the program was approved by the California BON. My question is that I want to go back to get my BSN online through chamberlain but I'm afraid they will not accept my pre reqs from WCU re anatomy, micro, math, speech just to name a few. I do not want to take those classes over again! Are there any WCU alumni out there that has gone on and received their BSN from another school with out any problems, or would Chamberlain accept my RN license and I just have to take the BSN portion??? I graduated WCU June of 2010. If anyone has any advice or experience with this please let me know! Because I do not want to go back to WCU, it's a great school but too far for me to drive I would rather do it online because I also work full time! Sounds very harsh for just missing colace for 2 days! Did the patient end up with an obstruction or something due to constipation? Sounds like to me something else was going on, not necessarily something you did, maybe something someone else did and you were the scapegoat. Anyways you will have to check with your BON. But I'm sure when you apply for another state they will ask on the application if you have had any disciplinary actions against you. I have been licensed in two states and I recall being asked that, and the BONS communicate with each other when you apply. Good luck to you, and always CYA when you miss a med call the MD and let him or her know, document, and write new orders if you were given any!

I never take another persons word on medications! Always look at your mar! It would not hold up in court if you told them you went by what the prior nurse said. Lesson learned always look at the mar and check your orders!

Absolutely not! If you didn't like it the first time you won't like it now! Don't go into a career because it's flexible and you can make good money! You will be one miserable person in the long run! You only have one life make the best of it! Do something that you love! You will be the nurse nobody wants to work with because eventually it will start showing in your work that you hate nursing!

You are totally normal! Well at least what I consider normal! Lol! I totally feel the same way! You are just being realistic not callous! I was a mortician before becoming a nurse and I know that helped me in accepting death and that we will all die one day it's inevitable. I hope this helps!
