When did you know what specialty you wanted?
In all of my 13 years or so of nursing, I have kind of fallen into all my different jobs.... not knowing if I would like them or not....In school I thought I would like L&D but ended up realizing that it was not all fairy tales out there...... and fell into something completley different..... just kind of roll with the rocks...... so to speak-- and I believe you will end up doing what is meant to be. Don't rule out or be closed off to any new opportunities. You just NEVER know what you may fall in love with.....

CCM EXAM.................. WOW!
Well Reading this made me remember to go check the site, and I PASSED!!! IT is a miracle! I studied for 2-3 hours the night before the test, using an old hand me down study guide from another one of the nurses I work with!! I honestly think my diverse experience really helped me though! I DON'T claim to be SMART! hahaha But Tickeled! YES!

marriage and nursing school
Nursing school was a HUGE strain on my marriage. It was FAR from perfect before hand, but going to college threatened him somehow. I was bettering myself for my family, but he saw it as threatening ..... like I didn't need him anymore or something..... He SAID he was proud of me but actions speak louder than words. 13 years later, I still have my wonderful nursing career, but that husband has been gone for 9 years! hahahahhaha Happily RE MARRIED now, and would not want to re live those nursing school, 1st marriage days for ANYTHING! :) Goodluck to you! It will all work out the way it is supposed to. :)

Signatures...
Where I work, we are completely paperless, and our name is printed automatically at the end of all our documentation....... typed out, Full first and last name with title at the end. Then we also have signitures that have been scanned into the system so that if we send out any letters to providers and patients, our signiture goes out on the letter and they had us sign our full first name and full last name with title, as it reads on our I.D. and Nursing License.

CCM EXAM.................. WOW!
Hi back! :) I studied very little to be quite honest. I just never found the time and the date snuck up on me! But what I did study were things given to me by other CCM takers from the past....... One large notebook called "A Case Manager's Study Guide, Preparing for Certification" By Jones and Bartlett Publishers I just basically took a bunch of practice tests in the notebook and then also, I studied a "Glossary of Terms" Published by the Commission for Case Manager Certification. Honestly, alot of the things I know I answered correctly came from my experience in the nursing field in a variety of settings. good luck! I hope that helps! :)

Please help I really need advice don't judge please
8 WEEKS OLD!!!! hahaha I was still BREASTFEEDING! But there was a 2 year wait supposibly... but on some weird FLUKE I got in EARLY...... and so it goes..........!!! I totally agree with you. Now that I have the years of experience...... I have not had the experience of anyone balking at the idea of my having my ADN..... thank god! :) But you should do whatever you can.... either way.... it will ALL work out FINE! :)

Please help I really need advice don't judge please
I think getting the most education you CAN is always a GREAT idea..... however..... I have my ADN. I started a 2 year ADN program when my daughter was 8 weeks old! (OMG!) ha ha It was hell, but I made it and The last 3-4 jobs I have gotten have all said BSN preferred or required. I have nailed them all! After 13 years of experience in a WIDE variety of nursing positions, I now work from a home office, doing utilization review for insurance company, making a very good living and still only have my ADN. For me when I started, I needed to get done and get out in the work force. I have thought about going back, but honestly, I don't see that it is worth it to me right now. Kids, sports, etc. Plus I got through school without taking ANY School loans out. Which was GREAT! So, I think it really depends on your individual situation. I want to go back when the kiddos are older and I have a little spare time (& $$$) on my hands, but hard to imagine spending all that money when I won't make much more-- if Any. Goodluck to you with whatever decision you make. :)

Dental Hygienists paid more than Nurses?
Another thing to consider, as I considered Dental Hygiene as a profession at one time, and I spoke to a lady who had worked in the Dental Hyg. field for years....... she made a good point... Yes she made great money per hour, and worked fewer days per week...... But Nursing is a profession where your job variety is ENDLESS! There are so many different types of nursing........ so as you grow, and change and age, you can change your job to fit your needs..... (me for instance, I just took a job where I can work from home!!! WOO WOO!!! and eventually will be able to travel, with my laptop, and work from any internet connection......) As a hygienist, her job was limited to just that.........dental Hygiene. Not alot of variety, and many of them have problems with their arms and back from standing with arms in strange positions for YEARS...... Just something to consider.... Talk to some of them! :) Maybe a GREAT choice for you. Maybe not. :)

online job for insurance companies
I would google all the major insurance companies you know....go to their websites and then look for a tab that says something like "career opportunities" or "employment" or something like that. Usually you can search your area and see what jobs are out there. You can usually upload your resume right from their website. Companies are making it alot easier to apply for jobs with the web. I work for an insurance company doing Utilization Review and Case Management and I found this job in the local newspaper. We do have nurses who work from home, but I do not. I chose an alternative work schedule instead. In our company if you work from home, you have to work Mon-Fri. I chose a schedule of Mon-thurs 8:30 to 6pm with every other Friday off. I would also check www.Monster.com and www.Careerbuilder.com Goodluck!

No gifts from the Drs???
The company I work for sends you a list of places you can choose a $25.00 gift card for....which I thought was a fantastic Idea. This year our choices were Target, Fred Myers, A Local movie Theatre and Starbucks I believe. I was thankful for that! I have never worked anywhere we got anything for Chritmas so I thought that was very thoughtful! :)

My 9 year old patient was raped and required surgery
I have been keeping my co workers up dated on this situation and I can't tell you how many times I have sat here crying at my desk reading this story. It makes me proud to "know" you as a fellow Nurse, but you have CLEARLY gone over and beyond......and you are BLESSED and will continue to be BLESSED for your kindness. You thought outside the box, when it was not neccessarily what you "should" do according to others....and I really respect that. You did what you thought was right...and Look at the results. You have given this child a second chance at life. This situation could have gone so many other ways. I am so happy for you and for her. What a wonderful inspiring story. Thank you from a nurse, a mother, a woman.....you are a wonderful human being.:redbeathe:nurse:
