  1. I've used RMP for all my prereq professors. Hasn't failed me yet! I love it. Unfortunately, not one nursing instructor at my college has a review. Myspace also has a similar version of RMP but has different reviews (myspace members only, I guess).
  2. -Composition and Rhetoric -Issues of the Older Adult -Intro to Nursing -General Psychology -Intro to Sociology -Mth1100 or higher (3 credits) -Any 3 credit communications course -Two 3 credit art/humanity courses - I'll be taking developmental psychology and contemporary ethics Then you have to either take Zoology or Intro to Anatomy to advance into the biology prereqs, which are: A&P I, A&P II, and Microbiology. Then 4 semesters of nursing courses once accepted. We don't have a streamlined way of being accepted. Alot of factors go into it though. (1) county of residence, (2) program GPA, (3) ACT score and (4) number of courses completed when petitioning are usually considered first. Ultimately it's up to the college, though. Sometimes lower GPAs get picked over perfect ones..
  3. I got straight A's this semester. I think my jaw dropped straight to the floor when I found out. Haha. A&P I, Health: Issues of Aging, Intro to Nursing, and Intermediate algebra.
  4. Statistics is one of the main reasons I probably won't go for a BSN.. The only math course I took in high school was consumer/finance math since I had completed all my algebra requirements in middle school. Probably not the best idea because anything other than basic algebra is so frustrating for me now!
  5. Summer 2005: Soc1010, Psy1010 Fall 2005: Bio1020 (Zoology) lecture + lab, Com1010, Eng1010 Spring 2006: Bio2070 (A&P1) lecture + lab, Mth1080 (intermed algebra), Hth1080, Nur1015 Summer 2006: Mth1100 (college mathematics) Fall 2006: Bio2080 (A&P2) lecture + lab, Psy2050 Then I (hopefully) will start the nursing program in Spring 2007. I will still have to take Phl1410 (ethics), and Bio2010 (microbiology) lecture and lab. I'll probably take those over the entire 2 year program in the summer sessions.
  6. College Mathematics. My last math class. Ever.
  7. My college does not require chemistry for the ADN program, but if you plan to transfer for a BSN, you have to take a 3 credit general chemistry course.
  8. I'd take A&P1, English, Speech Com, and Psy. I took something similiar last semester (zoology instead of A&P) and it worked out very well.
  9. To apply: -Must place in the Eng1010 level or take Eng1010 to achieve level. -Must place in Mth1100 (college algebra) or take Mth1080 (intermed. algebra) to achieve level. -ACT composite score of 21 or higher. -GPA of 2.0 and at least (I think) 12 college credits. Although you really have no hope if you're not applying with a 3.0 or higher. We take the NET after we have been accepted. They only use it as a diagnostic tool to see where the nursing class as a whole may have trouble. They used to require A&P1 to petition, but it's no longer a neccessity. After the three above needs are met, students are ranked according to ACT score, # of classes completed, and overall GPA in program classes only (for example, the rereq to a&p, zoology, is not factored into the GPA).
  10. College of Southern Maryland, La Plata, Maryland.
  11. 600-700, I think. At least that is what my prof. says. :)
  12. I definitely agree! We did cat dissections for the muscles, and I would often find myself looking at my own cats to try to memorize their muscles. :) I find it also helps to make up rhymes or acronmyns (for example, the deltoid muscles on the cat spelled "CAS." Same for the trapezius muscles. And the lower leg muscles spelled out TEPS). :)
  13. My zoology instructor did the same thing. I could not STAND it. I guess the only upside was that we got extra credit if we found any typos in the text, and there were plenty to find.
  14. Principles of Anatomy and Physiology by Tortora and Derrickson. 11th Edition. It was $180, if I remember correctly. For lab we use my instructor's lab book (black binder.. it was $3.50), and Mammalian Anatomy: The Cat by Sebastiani (2nd Edition). I think it was less than $15.
  15. Congrats!!! I got super excited for a moment when you said you go to CSM, because I do too.. but I'm waaay over on the East Coast (College of Southern MD). Haha.
  16. Anatomy. All the other classes I've taken so far have been very boring or very pointless (as in.. we didn't do any work or learn anything).
  17. My school uses WebCT as well. I love it. Unfortunately, alot of the instructors have problems navigating the system. Makes things a little confusing sometimes!
  18. I took basic psychology (1010) online and it was the easiest class I have taken so far. My sister took human growth and dev. online and it was the easiest class she's ever taken. But we both like the ability to go to school in our pajamas. :) You have to be pretty motivated.
  19. One of my classmates is taking AP1 and Micro. She is doing okay, but studies constantly. She seems very stressed out. I'm sure it can be done successfully though. I studied for approx. 5 hours for my first AP1 lecture exam. Scored 92%. I studied for well over 20 hours for my first AP1 lab exam. Scored 82%. I find lecture to be much easier than lab, but lab is more interesting (I love hands on) and the lecture exams are always multiple choice.. I woke up extremely early on the day of registration to ensure that I would get an available seat with the instructor I wanted. If you are able to choose your instructor, I definitely suggest asking around (other students, ratemyprofessor.com, etc)! I'm sure I'd be doing alot worse if I had a different instructor. I think I will have a harder time in AP2. The systems covered in AP2 are not some of my favorites. And my AP2 instructor doesn't speak english well.
  20. I'll be taking A&P2 this summer. June 5th to July 25th. Tuesday and Thursday 1-7pm. I'm not doing anything to prepare at the moment. I'll have a two week break between this semester and the summer semester so I'll probably start reading the assigned chapters in the textbook. And reading over my AP for Dummies book. :)
  21. This has been on my mind alot lately.. I completed highschool cum laude in 18 months (early graduate). My class load was ridiculous so I stayed unemployed throughout that time. 6 days after graduating from highschool, I started college full-time. I have a disabled father who requires alot of help, so I have little time left over after those responsibilities and school. I will not be employed throughout nursing school. Now I'm wondering.. I'm going to go from unemployed with no prior experience to registered nurse.. with no prior experience in *anything*. Will this hinder me from becomming employed? Most of the women I am going to be in nursing school with are already CNAs, nurse techs, or work in doctor's offices. I feel these women will have the upper hand when it comes to landing a job.
  22. I have a PDA related question as well.. My college does not require a PDA, nor does it say anything about it being optional. Do you think they would allow me to use one in clinical anyway? Does anyone go to a school that denies PDA usage? I should probably just call the school and ask, but I was curious. :)
  23. I'm using the Dummies Guide to Anatomy & Physiology for my current 16 week semester of AP1. It helps me understand the entire picture of the subject matter, and then I use my textbook to study the details. I'm planning on using it for my AP2 summer course as well. It was a really good investment for me. :)
  24. I began to get worried when I saw all the posts about the entrance exams on this board too! I contacted my college. They told me the entrance exam is not a required part of the petitioning or acceptance process. Although my sister had to take the NET after she was already accepted into the program, so I don't really understand that part.
  25. My sister was an alternative candidate for a ADN program with 40 seats. She did gain acceptance, though, when another woman was accepted elsewhere and turned down her seat. She was notified of her acceptance 10 days before the start of the program. Good luck!
