How does BON handle + marijuana screens from nurses in states that have legalized it?
Neither, the issue is the disorder of insomnia and what the Physician has ordered for it. A patient is trying to relieve their symptoms and get some sleep, NOT to care for patients.

How does BON handle + marijuana screens from nurses in states that have legalized it?
If you're so concerned about your lack of sleep ( due to being a nurse for 20 years) vs the insomnia of your patient, well, suggest you quit nursing!!!!!!!!!!! They did not choose their disorder. There are numerous ways to re leave this and that is their choice and right.:)

Is anatomy one of the toughest courses for nursing?
A&P is VERY difficult. Make it fun. I deer hunt and took a head (cut length way) and it's heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and others. None of the other students had seen "real" organs. There was one student that had never even touched any. I had sacked up the scrotum and member ( all still connected ) and told her she had to identify all the parts prior to the test. She was failing the class. It turned out GREAT for all and we had a lot of fun with it. Best of luck!!

What are all of the duties of LPNs at LTC Facilities?
I have worked in LTC for around 36 years and there are different areas that nurses work in, such as custodial, skilled. locked down units, etc. Different areas have different responsibilities. In general the most commom task involve; having a secure facility, taking care of all patient needs, mental or phy, satifiging family members ( when they ask " where is mothers' red sweater!!!!" you are expected to stop what you are doing and deligate or track it down yourself) .There are too many resp. to list here but here are a few. You have meds to pass and each shift is different, treatments to do,blood sugars to get and may be twice on your shift, work the dining room passing trays, making sure each resident gets the appropiate tray with only their things on it allowed, feeding patients, cleaning up spilled food, dealing with angry relatives when thing are not perfect, picking up trays, moving residents out of the diningroom, and deligating what you can as you have more meds to pass now and the phone is ringing and you have a new patient to admit= at least 2-3 hours to tend to the family and patient then all the assessment that need to be done on them, that's psy, physical, skin, and all other areas. Finding out where your CNA's are and not answering the lights per family member and " she has rang for 30 minutes-WHERE ARE YOUR AIDS!!!!!!!!! You have just been informed that one was sent home and now have only 2 to assisst 18-20 patients and the maj. are bed ridden and total care. THEN there is an ALARM going off in 310 and you know the GT is tangled up. The paper work. Well there are the weekly assessments, monthly assessments, wts that need to be done and documentated, V/S taken and documentated.( follow up if any adnormal) posting of each BM and follow up of meds if needed, showers taken, any skin breakdown, and if so, needs incident report with call to MD,family and after orders documentation of all and if pt fell and not observed, have to do incident report and v/s every 15 minutes WITH assessment of all neuro signs. Then the MD shows up and wants you to make rounds with him= each of his patients and every concern that they have and/or their relative has. Orders to take off, labs to order, meds to order, transcribe to med sheet, initial nurses notes to include entire phsical assessment. All this time buzzers going off, people coming to you and asking " Where is Joe Blow, what room? well he was not there so where do I find him? Where is my mother/father/etc, why is that person wearing my mothers blouse? Then there are the fights between the patients, she stole my _______. Then the dining room doesn not deliver the pm snacks and they are gone before you know it, what to do with your Diabetics? Mary is yelling down the hall wanting her 2 oz of wine NOW. OMG- here comes ____ ____'s daughter and she looks mad as usual. (SIGH). Who ate all of my mothers pudding?? Medicare charting= skilled documentation= see, hear, what degree of asst needed, able to assist nurse?? the pages go on. Well that is about 3 hours worth on your shift. Each shift is different. With the evening shift= after 5 so family members come in and can really raddle your cage, also time for all meds to be delivered, accouted for, passed to carts, transcribed as rec, and administered. There are the sleeping and pain meds given, signed out, and control log count done. Oh!! did your remember that that red sweater is still missing and he is back at the nurses station wanting to know what you have done about it? NOW THEN the State walks in. I suggest you go take potty break now as things are going to get sorta busy:nurse:

Older Nursing students
Guess that I AM old, as we went to classes which gave us support for each other. If they are not teachers, just coaches that is TRUELY sad.Teacher are such special people and we have needed them since time began. A "Coach" can direct you and encourage you, but if you do not know the right questions to ask, does that make the learning effective? Does just reading give you the ablility to retain, reguritate, and safely practice what you read? I wonder.?

Older Nursing students
I was 40 something when I went back and made A's in A&P 1and 2. I used a buddy, flash cards, and real stuff. My husband hunted so I had him take a deer head cut it lenght way. I took it, the lungs, heart, liver and kidneys to class. Most students had only seen stuff in Formaldahide. It was really great. I saved the " private parts" in a zip lock, hair and all. gave them to a young student that was struggling and told her she had to identify 4 parts. After she stopped wencing, she did it. Wiith more real stuff, her interest peaked and she made a great grade. One student even took the lungs home to her daughter, she was supprised that they floated. Use your imagination, be strong but most of all be committed, it WILL take All you strength and ALL, that is ALL your attention. Prayers

Older Nursing students
I was the oldest in my class, I was 44. The other students came to me for support and that was great for me. In clinicals I was dx with bone ca and told to " clean house" so I quit and did. I had been going 51/2 years part and full time. I had gpa of 3.8??. One year later- only Osteoporosis. In clinicals at St Davids I took a LONG REAL look at the RNs ( have been LVN for 36 years ) and asked them if they were happy with their choice of profession. Not ONE told me yes. That blew me out of the water. I will stay a L.V.N. as I do not want to " eat my own". In all those years I have worked under ALOT ALOT of supervisors. and found that the LVNs' personalities and team work more to my comfort. THe first day of class my Professor told the whole class " You will think, dream, live and have nothing on your mind but RN work. The majority of you will either, get a divorce,( I did ), seperate, have break down, and most will fail." I will never forget those words. In one class the Professor said, " Look to your left then look to your right, those people will not be there in 2 weeks. This was a microbio class. He was right. I told my lab partner, I WILL N0T drop this class as I will NOT take it over. Of all my classes I made "A"s and 2 "B". and one B was in Micro. I commend all who pursue this field and wish the VERY VERY best to you. Stay strong as that is WHAT IT TAKES!!!!! REMEMBER THIS WILL PASS, and you will survive, just tell hubby and family that this ISSSSSSSSSSS only temporary!! and you love them respectfully and hang tough, ohhh and also blessings Dee

Enough is Enough
You must have only one patient, so after all that when do you have time to do patient care, charting, meds, reports, labs, etc???????????????????? You must be a VERY capable nurse. After 36 years still can not do all that, wish I could and everyone be happy too.

Burnout
Your question is answered by "YES" and with all our hearts, that is why we chose our profession. If we only took care of our patients, life would be bliss. Add greed and politics equals burnout with us questioning our abilities. God only gave us 2 hands and 2 feet. We know when we leave there will be someone to replace us, thus the cycle continues. After 36 years of experience, I have never seen it change, anywhere. I have " been there and done that!" and it is sooooooooooo sad that it only gets worse. I chose to believe being a nurse was my passion, only to discover that no one else really cared but other nurses and the patients. Now it is all about money.
