  1. As we get older our mental faculties aren’t what they were, it’s OK. That could also be something else underlying. Wow that’s amazing. I certainly feel like someone would let you do all of that for them. I feel like you’re on the right path. Just beware of gallows humor.
  2. You’ll get a job. Just have to figure out what’s going on. Are you considering SNF or LTC?
  3. That sounds way more in depth than it needs to be. We always hear about wanting to increase efficiency. I’d say you could probably trim four of those things to make it work smoother.
  4. That seems odd to me that you’re having a hard time in such a large area. How many hospitals have you applied to? Open for night shift ? Followed up with HR?
  5. Uhh no. What’s triaging ?
  6. Who says the cuffs were for the instructor? Ohhhhhhh. Anyways I agree paramedics with a superiority problem are the worst. It’s that independent spirit I guess. Most don’t recognize there is more care beyond the transport. 12 min vs 12 hrs. Sprint vs marathon. Emergency isn’t the only specialty out there, but instructors that don’t recognize care rendered prior to arrival are just as bad. It takes the whole village to care for one person. I’m glad to see more programs placing student nurses in the truck to see the first point of contact and if the student is lucky...Be a part of the patient discharge home. Students can witness the often questionable living conditions of many of our elderly and the struggles to survive in an increasingingly tech heavy world. Is it too much to ask for our elderly to not have to deal with robo menu? Sheesh. Anyways it something else carrying someone from deep into the woods to a truck then to a hospital then walking with them out the door which is something I’m glad more SNs are experiencing these days.
  7. Go through the simulations multiple times. Memorize the ACLS drugs, dosages and indications. Known your crash cart
  8. Your best bet is to talk to your units best nurses. You’ll know who they are quickly. Ask them common medications you must know, common procedures you must know, common conditions you’ll run into. They’ll be able to tailor it to your unit. Otherwise master ACLS.
  9. The answer is with you. How long can you tolerate this? Where do you see the Covid trajectory going ? Do you honestly feel it’ll be like this forever?
  10. If they hate pre hospital then they are straight up ignorant.
  11. Guys I’m telling ya. Pull out those handcuffs and fire hose, flash a little wink wink at your instructor. Bam instant nurse.
  12. There is a legal nurse on these forums that you can ask your questions to. Legal teams generally have their own medical chart reviewers keep that in mind. Another good resource is to meet with your hospital attorney, they should have an office in the hospital building. Ask them their experiences and advice. Take a charting class and have your hospital pay for it. Lastly your chart should reflect realistic efforts to address the patients condition based on guidelines. It doesn’t have to be cutting edge treatment, but it should be realistic. Check your BON website also for malpractice advice on investigations. Carry malpractice insurance. Honesty goes a long ways. If you see gross systemic issues bring it up to your practice counsel. If you don’t have a practice counsel request to form one. 30 mins post shift is well worth it to chart properly.
  13. Apply. You’re a warm body looking for a MS/Tele job. You’ll get it.
  14. Good luck to you. You’ll be a great nurse someday.
  15. Go through proper channels for follow up. Contact your hospitals case management team explain your concerns and ask that you be a part of their follow up team. Also be sure you go through proper debrief.
  16. Still doesn’t matter. Disposable cheapies get the job done unless you have some sort of hearing deficit. In a pinch you can press a plastic anoscope to the area to be ausculted, but you’d have to get pretty close. ?
  17. ER Machine Build Guide Part 1 BLS/ACLS/PALS Recognize all cardiac rhythms within 2-3 seconds Memorize your areas EMTP protocols as you must know what they have performed Master your equipment. Especially the code cart. Can you emergency pace? IO operator? Memorize major department protocols and procedures. Can you set up an emergency chest tray? Deliver a baby? Memorize all ACLS drugs doses and indications Memorize RSI Build a relationship with your doctors and learn from them Know where everything is and make sure it’s all in date Small hospital ED is boring till it’s not and can get quickly out of control from lack of resources.
  18. 1) The waiting room 2) Blend in with the rest of the patients so your co workers, boss, and doctors don’t immediately recognize you. But still keep an eye on any real sickies.
  19. Get on weekend shifts. Fri Sat Sun. Yeah I slept in the library many nights studying. If your PD base has quarters just stay there.
  20. Yes. EMS. Stayed at base. Went on calls. Studied in between. Your pre reqs are done. You’re used to irregular hours. You got this.
  21. If you want to be a nurse then reapply.
  22. It doesn’t matter what you use. Your knowledge and skill will be more important than your stethoscope. Besides everyone gets a CXR, CT, echo now anyways.
