Contracts for Next SY
I'm sorry to hear it ? that has to be so frustrating and put you in a difficult spot. My last "raise" was 50 cents more per hour so I'm nervous to see what is offered for next school year. After how much more work was put on me this year with COVID, I don't think I'll return next year anyways... How do you feel about your school? Do you have supportive teachers/a positive work environment? We've been in-person learning full time since August as well. It's been hellish but it's helped that most of the school staff recognize how hard I've been working. It doesn't hurt to try and renegotiate your contract/pay and if they aren't willing to budge, hopefully there are better opportunities out there for you. Good luck!!

University of Cincinnati MSN Summer 2021
It's definitely been on my mind but I haven't made any moves to start contacting anyone. I have friends who are physicians in the area so I think they'll be helpful with networking and connecting with preceptors. @gotcoffee I'll be starting the FNP program as well! I'm in Ohio ?

University of Cincinnati MSN Summer 2021
Hey there! I was previously admitted to the Adult-Gero NP Program but had to defer due to the pandemic. I'm applying to the Summer 2021 FNP program, fingers crossed I hear back and am admitted soon!

School Nurse Pay
I'm paid hourly with no pay over any school breaks or holidays. I get 3 days of PTO. Prior to COVID there was an incentive (I think $150) if you missed 0 days of work. My pay is horrible but I'm going to fight for a raise for next year's contract.

Any Ohio SN?
Eliminating quarantine for close contacts in school feels wildly risky to me. I trust ODH's recommendations but these new guidelines have me feeling a lot less confident that I can keep my kids safe from COVID. If I can't exclude students who were more than likely exposed that's a huge concern. Especially with how difficult nailing down a list of close contacts is when students do test positive. The students are the ones who tell me about their play dates and close contact with other kids, the parents rarely tell me if there was a social gathering outside of school. It feels like private investigating at times - having to call parents because of students tattling about sick and COVID positive family members, facebook posts about parents being positive but still sending kids to school, anonymous tips emailed in about positive families... it's exhausting. Have you had a lot of cases in your school? How's support been from your staff/administrators and the health dept.? I feel lucky that my point of contacts at the local health dept. are incredibly supportive and on my side. Hope you're hanging in there!

Developing a School Policy
Hi all! TL;Dr - After a disastrous handling of our positive COVID-19 cases, my principal is letting me put together a quarantine policy for any positive students/staff going forward. I'm collecting info from CDC, my state's dept. of health, my local health dept., and other schools in our area to put together a policy. Any chance anyone would be willing to share your policy/protocol for determining quarantine lengths? I am exhausted by parents calling me furious that their child has to quarantine for 14 days, especially now with the new CDC guidelines. I am not comfortable with close contacts (6 ft. for 15+ min) coming back 7 days after exposure even with a positive test. Our local health dept. is supportive of any school who wants to make their policy a 14 day quarantine so my school desperately needs something in writing for parents to refer to. Some background info: My principal hasn't been receptive to our local health dept.'s recommendations for quarantine. She basically has made up her own guidelines for how to handle the positive COVID-19 cases in our school. I am in constant contact with our health dept. and our school has a designated liaison who makes recommendations and assists with contact tracing. We've only had 3 students test positive this year but listen to this craziness... For the first case - teacher was quarantined for 14 days, students who were undoubtedly in close contact (6 ft. for 15 min.+) were quarantined for 14 days (seated immediately around the case or from sports). All other classmates were not quarantined. Second case - no teacher quarantine. Only those seated around the case at lunch were picked out to quarantine, no other classmates. Understandably, parents had a lot of questions and concerns about how differently each case was handled. We are a very small school and word spreads quickly. In both cases, I believed a 14 day quarantine for the entire classroom was the safest bet and I was 100% supported by our health dept. liaison. Boom - another positive case in the same homeroom less than 3 days later. Principal wanted to quarantine lunch-time crew only again. After many parents and teacher voiced concerns, our principal agreed to quarantine the classroom and teacher (recommendation from myself and the health dept.). I appreciate any help and hope you're all hanging in there! Happy Holidays!!

Holiday Travel and Mandatory Quarantining?
Parents won't even be fully transparent with me about if they're really isolating their child from a positive family member so I have pretty low confidence in being notified if a family is traveling. My school's principal is considering switching to remote learning the weeks before and after our Winter break.

Athletics = Madness
I am so frustrated with the organized sports teams being a priority over the safety of everyone at school. We've had incidents where a parent or sibling to a student tests positive, meanwhile they've been all been at the games and practices talking to other parents and spending time around the kids. Mask compliance seems hit or miss (I ask any kids who come into my office who I know play soccer/football/etc...). We take all these extra precautions at school to keep everyone as safe as possible yet sports practices and birthday parties are acceptable? ?

Second interview, with principal?
I interviewed with one of the administrators and they mainly asked about my experience with special education and individualized education plans. I remember them asking about how I would handle conflicts with students, parents, teachers, etc...

Scrubs for short torsos
5'5" with a short torso - Grey's Anatomy mock wrap scrub top and their Emma scrub top have been a decent length on me. But the game changer has been Figs' Catarina scrub top that I can just tuck into my bottoms.
