  1. I recommend taking a look at the description in the syllabus/catalog. Additionally, you can find equivalencies in a couple of online databases.
  2. Here are our course offerings for General Chemistry 1 and 2 this coming year: Spring 2021: General Chemistry 2. Summer 2021: General Chemistry 1 and 2. Fall 2021: General Chemistry 1. Spring 2022: General Chemistry 2. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Jeff
  3. If the Chemistry at Portage does not work out for you, please let me know as I can offer the Chemistry class that you need. Jeff
  4. Yes! North Central Missouri College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, which is the regional accrediting body of the Department of Education. Additionally, we are also accredited by the Missouri Department of Higher Education. My courses are also part of the Missouri Core 42 Guaranteed Transfer program. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Jeff
  5. I teach at North Central Missouri College. I can probably accommodate in one of my classes either this Summer or in the early fall. When do you need to have the class completed by? Jeff
  6. North Central Missouri College. I offer all of my classes each term even though the schedule of classes does not list them all. I have attached the syllabi for Organic 1 and 2. The price is $1,000 as it is a 5 credit course and the tuition is $200/credit. Please feel free to contact me for more information. Thanks, Jeff CH 210 E1 Organic Chemistry 1 Syllabus Fall Second Session 2019 (1).pdf CH 215 E1 Organic Chemistry 2 Spring Main Session 2020 Syllabus (1).pdf
  7. Let me know if you need any help in Organic Chemistry.
  8. If you need any pre-requisites such as introduction to Chemistry, general Chemistry, or organic Chemistry, please let me know as my classes will meet your august deadline. Given your background, you should be able to get an "A" in my courses.
  9. Sure! I teach Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 at North Central Missouri College. I have attached the syllabi for the two classes. We can do one or both courses during the Summer/fall/Spring--whatever is needed and I will accommodate your schedule. Please note that the schedule of classes doesn't usually list these courses since I handle the enrollment and scheduling myself. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. 10. I agree with you--most faculty will not go to that level of effort.
  11. If you were one of my students, I would speak to the Registrar/administration on your behalf. I teach at a small, rural community college so I am much more "hands-on" than a typical instructor at a larger institution.
  12. I recommend printing a copy of that email.
  13. You will need to send your school the Portage syllabus in order for the course to be considered an equivalent. (It may take some time for this process to happen.) I have to send my syllabi to other schools to show that my online Chemistry and physics courses are equivalent to an on-ground course. As far as transcripts go, at the school I teach at there is no distinction made between an on-ground course and an online course. Both show up the same on transcripts.
  14. Online courses and their associated labs are the best option given the current circumstances of COVID-19. Remember that everyone in your cohort is in the same situation. Professional schools (nursing, med, dental, pharm, etc.) will definitely make the exception to accept online courses and online labs as otherwise they will "shoot themselves in the foot", so to speak, and lose a lot students and their tuition $$. There are actually three major types of online labs that are utilized. (I want to point this out since most people are not aware of how the labs work in an online/distance learning class.) If you are interested, I would be happy to explain as I use these types in my online Chemistry and physics courses at North Central Missouri College.
  15. One good aspect is that you have most (if not all) the science pre-requisites done.
  16. The issue with self-paced courses is that you cannot use federal financial aid with them. So, you have to pay out of pocket. One needs to consider this aspect too.
  17. If you need to take an Organic Chemistry course, please let me know as I teach one at a community college this Summer. It is entirely online. The tests/quizzes/final are open-book, open notes, and students are encouraged to work with others (such as tutors, teachers, etc.). Science education research has shown that this approach is superior to the traditional lecture/memorize/test approach as (a) students learn the material better, (b) retain the material longer, and (c) get higher grades.
  18. Two points: (1.) You should be able to find a job as a pharmacist, but you may need to relocate or accept a less desirable position (aka night shift, etc.) There are positions for pharmacists in teaching and administrative/management/consulting work. (2.) The science courses you took for your pharmacy degree will help you if you choose to become a nurse. Depending on how long ago you took the courses, you might need to retake a couple of them--if you encounter that situation, please let me know as I can give you some specific advice.
  19. There can definitely be an information overload in Chemistry classes. From my standpoint as an instructor, I avoid this by making the quizzes/tests/final open-book and open-notes where students are encouraged to collaborate with others. I have found this approach gives better learning outcomes.
  20. The Aleks software is good and there are equivalent ones available, such as Knewton Alta. Each term, I give students an opportunity to purchase/use Knewton Alta, if they choose.
  21. There are less expensive options such as North Central Missouri College.
  22. I would recommend calling the school and/or searching through their website to find out what is required as far as Chemistry courses go. It does take some time to find out, but their answer is more reliable.
  23. If you need a Chemistry course over the Summer, I can give you some pointers on where to find a good online one. It saddens me to see students' plans delayed since they are unable to locate a course. I always make my Chemistry and physics courses available each term.
  24. To get the best grades possible, choose your courses wisely and pre-study the material. I give this advice to all the pre-professional students I advise.
