Why is it? Things nurses do other people can't
I went out to dinner with some of my girlfriends from the nursing program and we got on the topic of emisis, and things along those lines while eating dinner, and after a bit we realized where we were and we were probably disturbing the people around us!

How many of you work at a doctor's office?
I'm just curious because it seems like all we talk about in nursing school (im 1st sem) is the hospital or LTC. I've volunteered in a hospital for 4 years, and like it but i really think i'd like working in a dr. office better, but no one i've talked to does. i realized you dont make as much etc. but i like the atmosphere of a dr. office better. whats your input?

Nursing school--credit report??
Where are you accepted to? I know at Wichita State, they did a background check (you cant work in hospitals w/ a felony is the reason they gave). As for insurance, WSU gave us links to a website and a phone number to get health insurance if we didn't have it, so I dont know if thats an option at your school. hope it helps! good luck!

FIRED!!! OMG what do I do now?
Jess is right, you do have the right attitude. That says alot about you that you and to have all of that happen in one day, and you still be so optimistic! Good luck! It can only go up from here! :icon_hug:

Why choose nursing?
I'm a people person and I love to interact with people, and you get to see new people everyday. I love the thought of job security, and being able to help people, even if i personally dont save their life, knowing i made their day better is what matters to me. I want them to have the best experience they can have because most people are scared to go to the hospital/dr. office, so the better the experience for them, the better i feel that i've done my job!

Need Serious Advice!
I say do what YOU want. this is something you will be doing for the rest of your life! Thats at least 40 years. If CJ is your passion do it. You are right, you can be seriously hurt/killed in any job. Its just like getting in your car and driving. Yea, you could be in an accident and hurt or killed but you don't run from driving do you? Nursing is a good career (in my opinion but i'm going into it! lol) Nursing isn't the only job you can help people in, with a CJ degree you can help people - which i'm sure you know. So over all (after all my ranting :wink2: ) this is what i say: 1. Pick out careers that interest you (nursing, CJ, paramedic, etc.) then get in contact with local paramedics, nurses, or police officers and see if you can set up a time to talk to them and get a feel for what they do. or you can do it over the phone usually also. 2. Explain to your family once you've decided, thats what you want to do and you want their support, thats a major thing to know they back you up. 3. Finally, even if you go thru nursing school, become a paramedic, or what ever you decide to do, you can always do something different. hopefully you will find something you want to do for a lifetime, but there are options out there, be sure you know that! Good luck! let us know how it goes!! Carrie

want to cry all the time.... can i make it in this profession?
Well first, correct me if i'm wrong but i'm gathering you work in a hospital. If you are, i'd recommend getting out of that. Im a student so i dont have much experience but just from my point of view, i'd try to switch to a dr. office or maybe a specialty clinic. i dont know if this is an option for you or not, but i would think it would be easier, you have set times patients will come in (for the most part), etc. which i think would be better for you. let us know how it turns out! good luck!:)

Help! Suspended License
I'm really sorry to hear that happened! I dont know where you could work in the mean time, but the best advice i can give you is be honest with future employers. If you can stay in the medical field, i would think that would be the best so you can remain in the enivonment and it would show that you are dedicated to your field. Hope it all works out!

doctor office benefits
Thats a good question, I've been wondering the same thing. I'm 21, and just starting, and I want to have kids eventually and I think working in a dr's office would be better schedule wise, but you do lose the money/benefits! You just have to figure which is more important! Good luck!

I start nursing school tomorrow and I am scared!
I start the 17th and im terrified too!! The past 2 years of pre recs have been so easy and now that I'm getting into the actual nursing stuff im freaking out! It scares me to think I'm growing up and actually going to be having a career in this. No more messing around. I'm 1000000000% excited but scared at the same time. This board has helped alot though!
