  1. Yeah unfortunately they got screwed and now those of us wanting to get into OB are now screwed as well. I hear that everyone in OB either just barely got a job in OB or are in Psych.
  2. I go to Mercy and there are now day and evening classes available but only RN. We don't have an LPN program. Owens has a crazy wait list and supposedly Lourdes is getting full. I'm not sure about Mercy's list but I would call anyway. it's a great school! Good luck!
  3. Patsy, you not only described my dream job but also gave me some hope. I have had some issues with fertility as in, I may need to take a dose or two of clomid to get things started and while it is possible for me to have kids, it may be a little difficult for me to get pregnant. I have been struggling with this matter for a year emotionally, and we recently decided to start trying for kids this month and wait to see if we need the clomid. It's wonderful to hear your story of needing treatments and then unexpectedly having a second child. And that last line is something my mom has been telling me "if you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans". So thank you for sharing your experience and for giving me an awesome description!
  4. Not sure where this goes on the board so I put it here. Are any of you out there working at a fertility clinic? It's something I have always been interested in but I would like to find out more about it. Any info about job duties, the environment, really anything would be greatly appreciated!
  5. Follow the charting and add in some extras. that's how I always do it. The extras are for the CYA factor (Cover Your A**) :chuckle
  6. Newmom: I would call Admissions at Lourdes and find out from them. They are pretty helpful there. I go to Mercy and graduate in May (Finally!). I couldn't help but laugh at the comment about Mercy having tough requirements and the curriculum being difficult! Here's the option: go to a school with higher standards and learn more, or go to an easier school and be totally unprepared when you get into the field (not saying UT is bad, so no attacking me :chair:). I mean, it IS people's lives we're dealing with right? Any nursing school is tough. Just hang in there and remember that you will have a very limited social life for the next couple of years :wink2:
  7. The call light one....yeah that's soooo true! The families of the client that ask you what all the meds are for and what all the tests results are and they don't even know what they're talking about or get mad b/c of HIPPA (ie: had a daughter of a client ask me all of the above while on the phone with her doctor husband, while she had no clue what she was even asking me. I told her that without permission from the client I could not provide her with the info and she got angry) The clients that will make you bathe them even when they're perfectly capable. (playing the victim) This makes me sound so cynical!
  8. Don't forget that some emergency rooms are also called emergency departments so they are sometimes referred to as the ED.
  9. Dwell time is 4-6 hours from my understanding. The 20-30 mins is the amount of time it takes for the dialysate solution to return from the peritoneum. It takes 10 mins to go in and 20-30 mins to come back out. Meanwhile, it stays in the peritoneum for 4-6 hours. Hope this helps (and hopefully I am correct :wink2:)
  10. One day you'll look back on this and say "why did i want them to talk to me?" LOL. You'll all wind up one big "happy" family. Promise!
  11. We were taught to push each incriment in 15 second intervals. 1 minute seems too long to wait with each push unless otherwise indicated. Make sure if it's compatible with a running IV or if you have an INT, make sure you flush before and after, with your after flush being at the same rate as your med (2mL's each time). Remember to pinch and flush at the same time with a compatible running IV and with an incompatible, pinch, flush, keep pinching while giving med, flush same rate as med, release tubing. Hope this helps! :monkeydance:
  12. House and Grey's all the way!
  13. From what I have learned cathing is never done clean. Pts who cath themselves should be taught to do it sterile.
  14. Oh I got these before class even started and I must say the cartoons are quite helpful! :chuckle
  15. Ugh. Took a quiz on sympathetic and parasympathetic and only got a 70% which means I missed 3 out of 10. Bad. But I have another quiz on monday and I think I get the endocrine drugs better.
