  1. I'm just taking Physiology and then I'll be done with all my prereqs and coreqs. I'm excited!
  2. I'm 17 (since August) and will be done with my pre-req's for an ADN at the end of next Spring. I'm so excited! I always shock people in class with my age though... it's kinda funny. :)
  3. I'm taking a 5.5 week Anatomy class. My college separates A and P. So far it's been going well... but it is an AWFUL lot of work. ALL memorization, and more memorization... I'm hoping to take Physiology in the fall, but I have to wait for the college to put in my chem assessment scores before I can register.
  4. YAYY!!!!!!!! :balloons: :balloons: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Do you mind me asking all of the nosy questions..??? Like... was it your first time applying, what was your GPA, how many course classes did you have done? I'm really curious since I've heard it takes forever to get in, and I'm wondering if I will even have a chance to get in the first time I apply next spring... Thanks! Adela
  5. I'll be applying next spring... I'll have all my prereq's done by this fall, and all of the non-nursing courses. I really hope the rest of this year goes well! :) Best of luck to you all!
  6. I got Mosby's Musculature and Bones & Joints flash cards. And... my coloring book is by Kapit and Elson. It's called "The Anatomy Coloring Book." They also have a phisiology and microbiology one. I might get them if I find this one to be useful. I ordered them from Amazon. FREE super saver shipping!!!
  7. Yeah... that's a pain. I'm still a high school student, but homeschooled. My mom transferred my shot records to a local pediatrics place a few years ago... We called them to have them transferred to my new doctor the other day, and they told me that they THREW THEM AWAY!! So, I don't know what I'm going to do... Probably will have to get the antibody test deally.
  8. I'm at ACC right now doing pre-req's. I'll be done with them hopefully this fall, and will be applying next Spring for their nursing program (to start in the fall.). I'm really excited about it! Right now I'm doing all of the non-nursing courses in the program also, so I should have all of those done by the end of this year. Good luck with entering! I'm not sure how competetive ACC is... so I'm interested to hear how your application/admission goes. Keep us posted!
  9. Good!! I was told that it would be a good idea... and it seemed like it would. I'm just going to listen to them in my spare time, or in the car (like I have any spare time... ). But, I'm thinking maybe in the car... I drive around a lot to different things... The flash cards look really good to me. About half of the several hundred in there are muscles, and the rest bones and joints. It has a picture of the location on the one side, and the muscles or bone that should be named colored in (it's more like a drawing I guess). And then on the other side is the name of the bone/muscle, it's function, origin, insertion, and innervation. They look really helpful to me... I guess I'll find out though whenever I start using them. :)
  10. What a letdown!!! Well... hopefully it'll just be here before you know it... :wink2:
  11. I'm taking a 5.5 anatomy class in the last half of the summer (July-August). My school divides it into an Anatomy course, and then a Physiology course, instead of two A&P courses. I'm taking Physiology in the fall. To prepare... I bought the anatomy coloring book, and Mosby's anatomy flash cards (muscles and bones). I also have some medical terminology CD's that I'm going to listen to. They were my brothers... I'm not sure how good they are. I'm thinking that they might help me remember word roots and by that being able to figure out the meaning of a word by breaking it up, and putting the meanings together. If that makes any sense at all!!
  12. I'm taking anatomy at RGC. It's the only 5.5 anatomy class they have in the last half of the summer. Thanks for the prof opinions! :) Well, I'm going to try to CLEP college algebra. But, if I don't pass it, then I'll probably take either it or college math. I'm just hoping I pass the CLEP!
  13. Yayyy!! Another ACC student! Hope you get in!! April 7th isn't that far away... So, you can take the preliminary nursing course (RSNG 1105) just whenever you put your application in?? They make it sound like it has to be accepted first... I think it says it can be taken after "placement on the ranking list" or something... Because I was wondering about that... Well, so far I've taken a lot of the non-nursing classes inside the course. Spanish, English comp 1, and Intro to speech (Petkus is AWESOME). I've taken all those online, plus history 2 and texas gov (before I decided to do the nursing program). This summer I HAVE to take the 5.5 week anatomy course in the last half. And unfortunately, the prof hasn't been picked yet (it's a "staff" class). :uhoh21: I am praying hard that I get a decent professor. Because I really want to keep my good grades (4.0 right now). And... for the rest. I'm taking physiology, pharmacology, and intro to microbiology this fall. And then I'm going to clep college algebra, human growth and dev, and intro to psychology somewhere in there. It'll be busy! But, I should have all my prereqs and non-nursing courses done by this Dec! To add to it all... I'm still in high school. But, I'm homeschooled so I can work on it at twice the speed if I want to (which is what I'm doing now). I should finish it by June, if I keep working really hard on it. I'll be graduating basically a year early. :balloons: Which professors did you like for Physiology, Intro to Micro, and Pharmacology?
  14. Huh, that's pretty cool if it works on warts. However... my mom has always told me never to keep duct tape in contact with skin for extended periods of time, because something in it can cause poisoning, or something weird like that. Anyone heard this? I'll have to ask her about it again...
  15. Hey! I'm not a guy... but I'm a teen, and know how you feel! Gosh... one time I stood up to give a presentation on my trip overseas, and turned BEET red. I just felt it, and couldn't do anything to stop it. And, I actually wasn't nervous either!!! Now... violin recitals. My knees'll be knocking... So, hang in there! Get a good, nice, helpful prof if you can for speech. I had to take intro to speech this semester as a pre-req, and so far it's been wonderful... And, I bet you'll be a great nurse! Just remember... they're not going to shoot you if you stutter once or twice. I repeat that to myself a lot... You can do it!! I've never taken meds either, and don't plan on it, even though my music teacher does. As far as classes go, if you want to overcome your fear of public speaking, take public speaking. It'll might be tough, but it's sure a good way to get over it! Interpersonal communication is about dyad communication (between two people). That might have less stand up and speak stuff. Good luck!
  16. Just wondering if anyone on here goes to Austin Community College, or knows a bit more about their nursing school. I'm hopefully going to be applying to the nursing school there next spring, for fall admission. :) Working on my pre-req's now! Anyone else?
  17. Hmmm... bummer. Well, glad you can use the CLEP's someplace else! Hope your "crunch time" goes well... I'm crunching biology and high school this year, and I'm sure hoping everything will go well! Thankfully I'm homeschooled so I can finish high school twice as fast this year. I'm dual-enrolled (HS and college) this semester (and hopefully won't be next!). Good luck!
  18. If you fail one it doesn't make a difference. You don't get penalized. You just don't get the credit, have to wait six months to re-take it, and lose your 55 dollars (barely anything compared to the class price). Collegeboard has special studyguides for them that cover EVERYTHING, and have lots of practice problems. My brother said so many of them were really easy though, and he didn't even have to study (he is rather smart though... ). I did read on the collegeboard website that colleges may not accept CLEP tests for classes you've already taken. But, it's not like you failed the class. I'd go ask an advisor or something, and see what they say. The Humanities one shouldn't be a problem though. Oops... edit to answer your other question... Your college has a pass number, the number that you have to get on the test to pass it. You either pass, or fail. It's not a "grade." You get the credit, but I don't think it affects the GPA at all... You may want to call collegeboard about that... I'm not sure exactly about that part of it.
  19. :balloons: :balloons: CONGRATS!!!! :balloons: :balloons:
  20. Is there any way you can CLEP those classes??? I'd look into it at collegeboard.com, and also at your college and see if they accept the CLEP's for English and Humanites. That way you can just go in, pay 50 dollars, take the test, and get the credit. I'm doing that with Human Growth and Development, and Intro to Psychology. I know they have Humanities and English comp CLEP test too. Make sure your college accepts it though first. My two cents. My older brother introduced me to the world of CLEP tests. I haven't taken one yet, but he takes them all the time and loves them.
  21. Can't remember what I was searching for... something about biology classes, I'm sure. Anyway, it was on google. :typing: Great place!!! People here are so encouraging!
  22. Thanks a lot for all the advice everyone!!! I've ordered my anatomy flash cards and am going to start memorizing early. Also got an anatomy coloring book. I heard that those were good too... And, I looked up all of the biology professors at my college on pickaprof, and was encouraged to see that most of them are pretty good profs. Yayy!! Hope I get a good one. I have a question though... where does medical terminology fit into all of the biology classes?? Does it just start in anatomy and then continue through the rest? Because... I've seen a lot of "Medical Terminology" books, but there's not a designated class for it. I have some CD's for it, so I may start doing that too. Thanks again! Adela
  23. I CAN'T!!! I have to take it in the last half of the summer... and the only class they have is labeled "staff." So... they haven't chosen the prof yet. I'm hoping for the best, even though the odds are against me.
  24. Yeah, all the courses I've taken before (5 classes) have been online, so this will actually be my first in-class class. I'm not quite sure what they're like... :) I will be praying HARD to get a good prof!!! :) Great job though in getting a b with that prof!! I'm impressed. I'm a 4.0 student so far, and I am REALLY REALLY wanting to keep it that way as long as possible, at least through my bio classes! But, I'd be happy with a b too. Adela
  25. Hey guys, I'm going to *have* to take a 5.5 week human anatomy course this summer. I've only ever taken one 5.5 week course before, and it was Texas Government (actually, my very first course too!). I'm kinda nervous/scared, although I know I can do it if I REALLY work hard!! So, the ideas I've gathered from here so far (this place is awesome) are to tape the lectures, study all the time, make up little jingles to remember things, get flash cards, study those websites listed above, and a few other things. Does anyone else have any other ideas? And, has anyone here taken Anatomy in a 5.5 week course?? ANY support/help would be much appreciated!!! I have no clue who the prof will be, because they haven't chosen him/her yet. Could be a really nasty one, or a real nice one!! Who knows... Thanks a lot! Adela
