  1. Anyone get snowed in today?

Love the snowfall we're having today, don't you? I tried for over an hour just to get my car out of my driveway today, took a lot of shovelling just to get my car back down the hilly driveway and into the garage. Had to call my nursing manager to le...
  2. Gosh, I would kill to see that at my job. I should clarify that I don't work at this hospital, but I definately have noticed a trend in upper management to say 'we hear you, we're going to work with you to fix things'. And then there is no follow thr...
  3. Well, here's a warning....

OUCH Pannie! Thanks for the warning, hope you feel better soon!
  4. Discharge orders you'd LIKE to write!!!

Hey, if she's insinuating that she's going to beat you up in a parking lot, can't you slap a restraining order on her? Or does HR frown on that sort of thing? Does anyone know how that type of scenario would typically play out?
  5. LPN"s and telephone triage

This thread has got me worried. I work for a clinic that only hires LPN's and MA's. We don't have any RN's employed at our facility. We are each assigned one doctor to work with, and we handle all of the patient calls for our assigned physician. We c...
  6. Im sorry, but light stomachs please do not read!

I was just wondering what your son felt about all of this? Was he really disturbed by this, or did he just think it was a lame joke? Does he really not get along with the boy who did this, or are they friends? (I know you might think it's bizarre to ...
  7. "but doctors are better than nurses"

What's that saying again? Doctors save lives, nurses save doctors. I work one on one with a surgeon as his office assistant. I triage all of his patient calls, make sure all of his orders get to the right people, assist with office procedures, sched...
  8. Scared outta my mind!

I've been pondering the idea of taking an accelerated RN program at the local community college, I know I need to get more information from them, but I am scared out of my mind that I won't be able to DO everything. I live alone, support myself, pay ...
  9. Grrrr, sick of the RN Vrs LPN's

I think that that is a very clever way to teach a bully to knock it off and start being fair. :)
  10. Questions about foley removal

That patient's foley must've been plugged or kinked or something, there is no way they should have 800cc's after only two hours with the foley out. I think your idea of being sure it's drained is a very good one.
  11. Wanted to share my wonderful moment

    Awww... that is really sweet!
  12. Think I've Done All I Can for This Person?

:uhoh21: Oh NO, are you kidding? How will she be able to tell her patients bad news? The LPN in our clinic that I mentioned earlier was about two inches from getting fired, but she decided that the job was too stressful and quit on her own... to pe...
  13. Can a new grad be a HH nurse?

I was hired as a new grad LPN for homecare. I had worked as a PCA with the same company so I kind of had my foot in the door. I worked in home care for my first four years out of school. I was primarily assigned to just three patients who needed a ni...
  14. Your Safety

I worked a night shift at a client's house and someone tried to break in, the parents of the child I was caring for yelled at them to get them to run off. It worked, but it did not sit right with me that they did not call the police. I started lookin...
  15. Discharge orders you'd LIKE to write!!!

OMG! Would someone who did something like that be facing abandonment charges?
  16. Rewards for picking up shifts?

They used to offer me two dollars extra per hour (plus it would have been overtime, so time and a half) to pick up on a certain home care case that they were having a hard time keeping fully staffed. Somehow, it was never quite appealing enough.
  17. Need some advice

I just want to say thank you for your service to our country, welcome home. As far as PA vs. nursing, I know that a PA would have more independance than a nurse would, but certainly both careers are rewarding.
  18. I need to vent please a little long sorry

That's weird, I always did vital signs when I was a CNA. How can they expect you to get anything/everything done when they won't even LET you delegate anything out to the people on your team?
  19. returning lpn looking for work in cities

If you search careerbuilder.com, there are a lot of recent postings for LPNs, mostly for LTC and clinic. I love clinic work, personally.
  20. What about St. John's in Maplewood? I work in a clinic near there, and the doctor I work with LOVES St. John's, he thinks that the nurses there are the best.
  21. Things Patients Have Taught Me NOT To Do

But this is wonderful! She can name her other kids 90 Degree and Slide Rule!
  22. What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?

When I was in nursing school I worked in home care as a PCA. My sister and I both worked in a home that had a lot of kids with special needs. There was one little boy on nursing care, and we all loved this kid. He'd been shaken as an infant and had s...
  23. Phone consultation...charges for

Hee hee.. my physician came out of the patient room after seeing a particularly trying patient that I had worked into the schedule, and he jokingly flipped me the bird cause I was teasing him about having to deal w/ her.. I just laughed and flipped h...
  24. Alternative for bath Soap ??

I had a home care patient who used nothing but baking soda paste.
  25. Um, more than I wanted to know...

First off let me just say that in my family, we have a rather warped sense of humor. My sister is an MA and I'm an LPN, our aunt one time asked us both about a weird rash on her leg.. we both looked at each other and at the same time said very deadpa...
