  1. Its a forum for student doctors - some members are a little ignorant to other health care proffessions - and a little rude and immature, some are very into advance practice nurse bagging. 'Doctors are the kings/queens of the health care world' sort of thing...
  2. OMG nurse_god is obviously a troll from SDN, look at his/her Hx. The only thread he has started is 'Have you ever dated a doctor' ddduuuhhhh.
  3. yeah, ok, so stop telling her to move on, she is worried about failing! my god kinda a stressfull notion. (sorry if i just made you feel worse OP). I agree move on about the sharps box incident; but if shes worried about failing her degree, i mean come on... And a perfect dismount from my high horse.
  4. You should bring in a really big basket of muffins and put it in the break room with a card. If they have a break room. Yeess it kinda romantic-comedy-esque, but still, who dosent like muffins?
  5. uhh you have EMTs who are still in high school!!!! I cant really decide if thats ssssooo cool or ssssooo not good. I'm in st john ambulance which is like a volunteer first aid thing (im 15) the most advanced stuff we do is SAED, 02, Asprin, salbutamol via aerosol puffer, oral airways(oropharangeal(speling, i know)) and paracetamol. If I understand correctly EMT-B's (which i assume these high school kids are) can give epinephrine, activated charcoal (I assume this includes NG insertion) all off their own backs? I think that most teenagers I know are as or more capable that most adults In St John. But still 15 year olds giving adrenaline? My word. By the way I'm in Australia. Oh and whats with all of this competitive stuff, arent they just DIFFERENT jobs with DIFFERENT responsibilities? And I was shocked to read a nurse saying that she thought a doctor was ABOVE her! Is it still the ninteenth century!!!??
  6. Firstly, you can do graduate entry at most universities for nursing, I am pretty sure just into their bachelor of nursing programme. Melbourne only allows graduate entry, but the rest are both. And nursing at the university of sydney is now by a masters degree. You can also do it as an undergrad because they offer several double degrees, such as: Bachelor of Arts/Masters of Nursing Bachelor of Science/Masters of Nursing etc. Hope this helps
  7. Alright, when I finish school I want to be a nurse, and I was talking with a friend today about 'House, MD' and i was like 'oh i hate that show it perpetuates the whole myth about nurses not actually doing anything and just being like assistants to the doctors,' etc. And she said "Oh well thats pretty true anyway, doctors can do everything that nurses can do, if they replaced every nurse with another doctor it would all run fine/better." Now I know that she is wrong, but I just couldnt seem to articulate why she was wrong. I'm sure that you have all had something simillar said to you, and I get the 'oh but why not do medicine, your smart enough...' thing all the time. Could you maybe help me with some responses to what my friend said? Not with 'why not be a doctor' i already have lots for that. Thankyou Jack
  8. Hi, Do you guys reckon that 'E.R' the tv show is accurate from a nursing perspective? Does it underrepresent nurses? (is underrepresent actually a word? well you know what I mean lol) It does seem to glorify the doctors a bit... Its not as bad as others Greys Anatomy definitly does I think. And predidio med! yeesh! Whadya reckon? Jack
  9. Hi I was wondering if anyone knows which victorian universities are good/the best for nursing. ACU has a good reputation as does La Trobe apparently. Did anyone go to uni in victoria? If so can you tell me if it was good etc TThhaannkkyyoouu Jack.
  10. Thankyou both, thats what I thought.
  11. nah i meant the nurse practitioners in emergency there are like five of them i think, mainly at the alfred. Dosent really matter i was just curious
  12. I was just wondering which medications emergency nurse practitioners can administer/prescribe... I cant find any information anywhere on the internet sssooo if anyone knows 'twould be nice to know.
  13. Hi, I did work experience in the respiratory word at the Alfred hospital in melbourne, and I never once saw a nurse auscultate a patient. Do Australian nurses auscultate patients regularly? The only time a saw a stethoscope used by the nurses was for BPs. I was only there for a week, but i read in some of the other discussions that in America they auscultate the patients every day. I dont really know why I am so curious about this but hey I am. So, do you auscultate your patients? Thankyou jack.
