New job. Got injured. Fired for unexcused absences during new hire probation period... what did I do wrong?
Definitely take care of yourself within the bounds you can afford - you are important! FWIW, seems like you were upfront about everything and had an excused absence from work. Did they provide you with paperwork spelling out the details of your dismissal? I'm sure there's an attorney in your area that would be willing to look at the facts of your case if you'd want to go in that direction. Might be worth it. Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

New RN Already Making Mistakes
I think it's great that you recognized your BIG opportunities to learn and that no one was injured in any way. You got one big reminder to check for allergies. You also learned to always trust your gut! Sounds to me like your assessment skills are doing fine, just back up your gut feeling with objective data such as VS, labs, you know the drill ? I'd recommended a book if you like reading: From Novice to Expert by Patricia Benner. Here's a 5 page teaser if you are interested https://www.medicalcenter.virginia.edu/therapy-services/3%20-%20Benner%20-%20Novice%20to%20Expert-1.pdf
- As an LPN, I can't help but feel like I'm not a "real nurse"

Help with NCLEX-RN – Let’s do some sample questions
Thanks so much for doing this I love practice questions. One question regarding #3: “My breasts are much larger, and my nipples are sore.” rationale: Breast tenderness can be caused by chronic cystic mastitis, premenstrual changes or use of oral contraceptives. What could account for the enlargement? I assume this is for early pregnancy also, yes?

I hate being a nurse and i'm about to graduate
This is awesome to hear because I'm starting school next week! Do I have your permission to show my teachers your quote?

Am I Too Old to Go to School?
No, you are not too old. You said, "I am finally able to go to school and finally become a nurse." Go do it! I'm just starting, I'm 45. My favorite movie quote (from Shawshank Redemption): "get busy living or get busy dying." Best of luck to you.

Male Nurse Disgusted by Female Nurses
Were they male or female? Usually I wouldn't ask, but that fact is pertinent to this thread.

Male Nurse Disgusted by Female Nurses
It's quoted verbatim, I didn't make that leap. Here it is again: Self-Value But we women have very special qualities. Intuition, compassion. Empathy. We are nurturers. When we focus on those unique gifts and collaborate together, instead of competing with each other, we are our most powerful selves.

Male Nurse Disgusted by Female Nurses
Nurse Beth, I found your reply sexist (sterotyping women) and misandrist. Here is an example: "But we women have very special qualities. Intuition, compassion. Empathy. We are nurturers. When we focus on those unique gifts and collaborate together, instead of competing with each other, we are our most powerful selves." Since these gifts are "unique" to women, no men are capable of harnessing intuition, utilizing compassion, showing empathy, or nurturing. Wow...

New Grad NP - Job Offer I Accepted
That's good to hear because I live in Hawaii and was wondering what the market was like out here for an FNP or PMHNP. Only trouble from here is finding a credible online PMHNP program because UH doesn't offer one...ugh...any ideas?

New Grad NP - Job Offer I Accepted
A huge "thank you" for posting this! Your post made me create an account so I could thank you. Your post means so much to me. I'm in almost the exact same situation and age group (I'm 44 right now and just applied to nursing school). I've trying to take things one day at a time, but of course we all think about our future career in this field. I'm leaning towards some type of NP, of course wondering "will I get hired at this age after all that work?" Your post is very inspirational. I also find it amazing you got offered such a variety of positions which all sound interesting, challenging, and fulfilling. Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted! :)
