What experience would be better, higher acuity or a pediatric ER?
I hope you take the Peds ER. That would give you lots of valued experience and plenty of marketability.

As a PA, how can I be better for the nurses in the ER?
In my experience the most annoying things are: #1- too slow, can't keep up or gets overwhelmed #2- overdoing your workups and stalling #3- laziness Good providers to work with: Quick to see pts Appropriate work ups Confident Great bedside manner Works as a team member

How do people feel about male nurses?
Bring on the male nurses!

Health dilemma + school clinicals = what to do??
Couldn't have said it better myself!

Not sure I can handle BSN School.
OP: I have a very good feeling that you're going to do just fine. Take a deep breath, relax and keep doing what you're doing. Also, DO take some "me time" once in a while and play a few rounds of golf. Selfcare is important.

I'm having doubts about nursing... :(
Do not, I repeat, do not complain to instructors about minor things. Save it for big issues; unprofessional or unethical conduct, safety issues, HIPPA violations, etc. Pick and choose your battles very wisely.

If not nursing what other career would you have done?
Hairdresser. Gives me a creative outlet!

It's not my job to pray with you.
If a patient is asking you to pray with them they must be really scared and in bad shape somehow. Empathy and kindness go a long, long way. Tell your patient kindly that you're not really a religious person, but that you'd like to go find someone to pray with them right now- there's always a co-worker or chaplain or someone, even housekeeping who will come to the bedside.

To late to start?
Go for it Manuel. Definitely not too old.

Working both med surg and icu
Shadow the ICU- it sounds like it could be a better fit. You will get at least 6 months of orientation and lots of critical care classes. There will be a very steep learning curve and it will feel like you are starting over. If you're up for the challenge you might really like it. The patient ratio will be 3:1 or 2:1 if the staffing is good. I would not recommend working your stressful med surg job and ICU at the same time. You need to focus on becoming a critical care nurse. Choose one or the other. Now go for it!

Maybe I'm not cut out to be a nurse?
Great advice! OP: please consider doing some assertiveness training.

Graceful way to NOT answer all the personal questions my patients ask me.
Perfect answer, agree 100%. They just want a connection.
