Essential Oils
I hate to say it, but with cannabis being legalized at schools now (for medical patients) damn near anything is possible. But essential oils? Are you kidding me. I get migraines. A lot of them. Strong smells, and lights screw with me bigtime. Working at the parts store, I've gotten headaches triggered by dumping 5 gallons of waste motor oil, rubber hoses and gaskets in that aisle, you name it. Customers with cars that have weed smoke billowing out while I'm under the hood innocently testing out their battery, and alternator... Someone sprays essential oils around me, guess who needs 2 Advil's stat? Second, schools IIRC are always getting their throats jumped down for when they have to spray chemicals...Round Up, etc.... Other than one being natural and one a harmful chemical, what is the difference in terms of being pungently odored?

Free schooling through Auto Parts Store - Anything Nursing, Similar?
Nursing comes first for me. I do not see myself working on other people's cars, day in and day out, until I die. I do it for myself. Nursing on the other hand runs in my families blood. And myself. Helping those in need I can see myself doing, proudly until my last breath. I am, however, a broke man with 4 cars, a motorcycle, quad and trailer. The trailer and 1 vehicle are reliable. The rest I bought used or inherited and need work. I do that work as I really can't be paying someone $500 for labor, when I can get the part for $10 to $300and get down to it. I self taught myself when the difference beteeen "I gotta get to work" and the unemployment line was one stupid misfire, from a torn boot in cylinder 3. Then came to enjoy the savings of doing my own work. Nursing or not, I will always DIY my work, and maybe one day build one of my two dream vehicles; 1. A 6.7 Powerstroke (diesel) 2. Or a LQ4 Yukon XL Denali (gas, but $5,000 gets you 600+ horsepower)

Free schooling through Auto Parts Store - Anything Nursing, Similar?
Hey y'all Quick question for the new or experienced nurses on here. Last week I landed myself a job at a auto parts store (Think major chain like Autozone) After a certain period of time, I can get two certifications at least; 1. ASE certified parts specialist 2. DuraLast certified starter and alternator specialist (in house) I also get to learn testing ignition control modules. Which to me is a Godsend the latter is pretty cool. But the first? I can go damn near anywhere with that. Dealer, other parts stores, etc... I already plan on going back for my ASE master mechanic, and diesel courses after the nursing stuff is done. In the meantime, is there anyway, during nursing school I could land myself a job at a hospital and have some school costs off loaded for me? Like what the parts store is doing for me? I know it's a shot in the dark, but I figured I'd ask. Or a place that'd help you get your CCRN, APN, etc? Thanks in advance!

7 Questions About Near Death Awareness
Very insightful article! Personally, it blows my mind all the different things people see! I've heard that DMT is only released during sleep and at death If that is true, it makes me wonder just how much that plays a role in our transformation from life to death And if the latter is true, that may explain why we see different things. Personally, I'm one to even question what human consciousness and this world is. I have yet to find an answer

What I Wish I Had Known Before
Well, I got a headstart on the auto stuff. So I got that going for me. I don't plan on working both simaltaneously. No way

What I Wish I Had Known Before
Schooling? It's all that way. I want to become both an RN and mechanic. Last time I needed to go to a shop, it was for an alignment, which I can't do myself without a full on garage. Me and the manager got to talking. He had recently hired a fresh new ASE certified mechanic (That's like the RN equivalent pretty much) So his resume looks good on paper. Throw him in the service bay. This guy, with all the education in the world could not even change an alternator. Honestly, it's a crying shame what education has become. More about books than real life. I truly hope that's not a representation of the nursing program, just down the hall from the auto shop. As to money, yes, I have received itemized statements for a hospital stay. A baby aspirin is $8.50/each. EKG, $300. Someone I know possibly had a heartattack one day while exercising. Mind you he is a medical professional. Knows how to interpret an EKG, knows the signs of an MI. He refused to go to the ER for treatment, because of the cost. Meanwhile, the CEO has oober goobers of money Oh, but critical access hospitals are in critical condition, and SSOOO underfunded according to some news outlets. Always about money. I can see charging a fortune for building new facilities, paying staff, upgrading equipment, but at some point the line has to be drawn. Just my humble opinion.

Dr Death
I wonder how many deaths are caused by med errors alone with doctors...

Sobriety and NCLEX?
Disclosure is one thing, security culture is a whole another ballgame. It sounds like, as you said, there is no papertrail, or you THINK. Facebook has been around since what? 2005? Took off in popularity in 2007 or so IIRC? Add in MySpace, early forum boards (AllNurses is old enough to be Facebook's grandma) etc... Your username, if used on multiple sites can simply be Googled. So an employer gets your app Jane Doe DOB 8/19/1984 (example) Looks up Jane Doe on Facebook. It shows up account created in 2006. Public posts are only this year...just a few cute pics of your tabby cat, some nursing posts. Maybe a family vacation picture you were tagged in. Nothing remarkable there. Then look up a common username they have of you BOOM! Here's your MySpace handle from 2004, public, with a Four Loko background and pictures of you getting high, drunk, etc I'm not saying this is you, but for a broad example, I can see this happening with nurses and prospective employees alike My online identity? AllNurses Yelp A different forum My YouTube Channel My YouTube channel does have videos of me cussing out a cow, shooting a rattlesnake, and my experiences with anxiety/nursing stuff. Nothing I wouldn't want on the 5:00 news My point is, just because you don't have a legal papertrail does NOT mean big tech giants like that can have your past on the internet. Be mindful of this fact before you make a decision on that checkbox.

Outrageous Complaints
BAHAHHAAH you just had to!!! And I'm surprised you didn't do any pictures for my post. I saw like, 10 opportunities. But I'm working with a Raspberry Pi computer right now. Small processor. Can't run any photo programs beyond looking at photos

LTC nurses...
1. I actually inquired about employment at a private LTC facility i handed my app in, spoke to the charge nurse. I get to telling her "I have anxiety and chest pain, but it's pretty decently controlled with Kava. Is that ok?" Charge goes on to say every employee there mostly has an anxiolytic in them. Like, wow, is this your workplace environment? I was shocked. Shocked might be an understatement. 2. I don't think I've ever came so close to fainting until this day... I used to work at a smoke shop. This one young lady would come in fairly often . Young LTC nurse, amicable, and cute as a button. I got to chatting her up and contemplated asking her out to dinner. All was going good. She'd come in, I'd chat her up. Repeat for a week. One day she comes in, eyes dark as can be, and asks for a "oil burner" That's smoke shop slang for a meth pipe. 3. I have 2 homes. One in small town America, the other in the big city. I've gone to the local saloon a handful of times to have a beer after my long commute. Just one single beer. Use the opportunity to socialize mainly, for heaven's sake. I look over and there's a LTC employee I recognize. I already knew her as being real self absorbed (to put it nicely) and the party type. She is still in her scrubs, ETOH, probably on beer #15 smoking a joint. Yeah, I'd LOVE for her to be my caretaker. I don't care if that's after work activity, that says a lot about someones responsibility. Not the behavior I'd expect out of a healthcare professional. Heaven forbid, I've never drank more than 5 beers in a 24 hour period. Spaced out over 8 hours BBQing for an old friend and catching up with old times around a all night bonfire.

Per diem in Cali
Geez louise, I've done Fresno to San Jose in 2H15M, driving mostly the speed limit.
-
Per diem in Cali
No hospital suggestions, sorry. As to BART, very dirty. I've met a few tech types in the mountains that have shared they hate it If you spend any extended time in SF, get a dual sport and learn how to ride it. At least you can lane split. At least, that's what I would do. I love riding at high speed in the middle of nowhere Put me on my motorcycle urban, 25 lane split sounds good. Albeit, only rode in the city once. Still not that bad

Miss me on that. I work more than 13 hours, I'm toast. 13 is my limit + a 2 hour commute. Even on 13's I got enough caffeine in me to kill 10 normal men

Why California? I want out of this state. Most of it has turned into a cesspool, regardless of the pay. Which usually gets blown on taxes and high living costs. Enjoy paying $4 a gallon statewide for diesel, $3.75 for regular in some areas. Hotels? $200 a night in cheap areas even, for a decent motel not filled with drugs or prostitution. California has a image of being a very nice state. I can assure you, it's a fallacious assumption. The moment I get my RN, I'm moving to Northern Nevada or Idaho. The moment I finish my last final to become an RN, I'm not even waiting for graduation. I'll have my truck towing my second vehicle and the second I can legally drive faster than 55 while towing, I'm hitting the gas and not looking back. Stay away from: 1. Actual inner city Fresno (anything south of Herndon is sewage. Trust me, I live south of Herndon. I moved here to go to Nursing School. Not a good place) 2. Bakersfield for the most part (Klansmen and drugs) 3. Los Angeles ($19k a month is chump change for living cost) 4. Rural Counties (Tuolumne, Mariposa, etc) as there is darn near no pay at those critical access hospitals ^Especially stay away from Mariposa County. John C Fremont healthcare district hires a lot of travel nurses. There has also been controversy in the years about this place 5. Modesto (Unless you like getting shot) 6. Northern Bay Area (San Fran, Hayward, Oakland) [Crime, fecal matter on the streets, open air drug market] 7. Stockton (Sane as Modesto) Do go to: Clovis/Madera area. If not that, look into Gilroy/San Jose Clovis is a decent area. Stay east of Willow Avenue. Cheaper than most parts of CA. Clovis avenue has a decent selection of good hotels. About 10 minutes over yonder from Clovis Community Medical Center, half hour to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Madera, about a half hour north of Fresno (Nicknamed the No-No for a reason) is cool. You can find cheap everything in that area. Not a lot of riff raff, in general safe. In Chowchilla, at the Robertson exit, you have Farnesi's steakhouse (Bomb food) and 2 hotels, usually occupied by const workers. Cheap enough and if you're worried about crime, get a CCW. Easy access to Madera Community Hospital/Mercy Medical Center Merced/Central California Women's facility Gilroy/San Jose is a really good area. Albeit, expensive as can be! My advice if you decide on bay area is: 1. Smaller more fuel efficient SUV/pickup (4WD Toyota 4 Runner comes to mind at 15-18MPG, versus my Nissan Titan at 8-10MPG) 2. Commute from Merced County/Los Banos ^Not the worst area but do lock your doors 3. Gilroy and San Jose pay amazing from what I can surmise. GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Curiosity
YES!!!!!!!!! @DaveyDo As to OP, fetish urine works only on home tests. I used to work at a sex shop. But I also don't use drugs, so my biggest concern on drug tests is how much water can I humanly drink to pee enough? LOL

Outrageous Complaints
As a patient: New RN had a really bad time sticking me for bloodwork. She tried twice then offered to grab a tech. I said, paraphrased from being in an ER at 0600-0700 with bad abd pain "Nothing personal. I know you tried. But sure, go ahead and grab him" He gets it first try. Well, shoot. About a half an hour later, I ask the doctor a few yards away when results will come back, in between browsing this site and trying to kill boredom as the pain was only intermittent. Right as he replies I hear "YOU ARE THE WORST NURSE EVER YOU CAN'T DO AN IV FOR (Insert expletives) AND I WANT A NEW NURSE YOU SHOULD BE FIRED...." (Myriad of other words) Nurse comes back into my room. I flat turned to her and said something to the tune of "I overheard you overthere. Don't worry. You did a great job. I can't be mad at you for not getting mine. I'll make the same mistake in 4 years when I'm in your shoes I'm sure" We exchange words. I have never met a ruder person, than whoever unidentified woman was in that other room. I'd like to think that being kind before, and after that to that poor nurse hopefully made her night a little better. Matter of fact, I wrote an appreciation letter for her and that tech. I need to go to a Fedex store and print it Tuesday. Next time I'm by the hospital, I'll drop it off. :) Maybe it's that I'm going for both nursing and auto mechanic for a career, but holy moly. There needs to be mandatory classes in high school: How to act in a emergency room, including: 1. If Grandma Jane comes in diaphoretic, nauseated with left arm pain with heart palpitations, she'll be seen first to make sure that MI doesn't cause her very death right here. Sorry about your toe pain sweetheart. I'm sure you'll get your dilaudid soon! She came in before you, yes, while her ST Segment is as high as your pain level in MMs x 10. 2. If a nurse cannot get your needle stick on try 2, she'll offer to get you the tech. Gladly accept the offer, making sure to be professional about her humanly error. Cussing about will get security called, and she's going to be your nurse until 0700 when she goes home. I'll bet my last dollar on that! 2A. Unless the nurse mistakes your TONSILLectomy for a VASectomy on surgery orders (I'm sure it's happened somewhere), there's nothing worth complaining about for mistakes made 3. From mom, a retired nurse who hated when people would come into the ED with 5 day old coleslaw in their privates causing infection....please know when and when not to come in. Know what can be treated at home. 4. You've been waiting 8 hours for the common cold because other people exist, and want to see their family tomorrow. See point #1. 5. Why you should go to ER -Neuro symptoms (Facial issues, unilateral weakness/off feeling, dizziness, syncope), etc) -Cardiac symptoms (chest pain, arm pain, combined with nausea, sweating, palps, etc) -Bone popped out and can't be fixed (did you try putting it in a bench vise and hammering it back in place?) (Disclaimer, don't actually do that) -Bleeding that cannot be stopped (Did you try duct tape and torquing the bolt to spec.)? Other stuff I'm not thinking of Reasons not to -My temp is 99.9 and I have not tried a fever reducer - I have a stomachache. Where's my dilaudid?!?!?! -I want benzos (Actual request of my mom once) And much, much more

Best bet is Ariat cowboy boots and Bickmore Bick4 Leather conditioner. Boot Barn has a myriad of boots for sale and accessories. I do not own a single pair of shoes. I haven't in maybe 3 to 4 years? All I wear are Ariat's. They are not only comfortable, but easy to clean, last for years, and I've had mine soaked many times. It will bleed onto socks in extreme rain or snow. But for even ER use, you should be fine. Oh yeah, and they can theoretically be deep cleaned, conditioned AND water proofed with motor oil. However, OSHA really doesn't like the idea much. BUT, goes to show how awesome those things are. Just a pointer on the norms: If you're a man, you wear your pants leg OVER your cowboy boots If you're a lady, you tuck the leg into the boots. Walmart cashiers wearing gloves?
X Sam's Club greeter here. Same hole of a company. For me, transdermal drugs... Fentanyl, PCP, etc... I took a wet dollar bill at my last job. Dude told me "sorry, my wallet fell in the toilet" And that was the first time I almost got a felony...

Choking Hazard
Dude!!! I totally forgot to reply thanks to you! Plain Jane is sitting. Needs a carb rebuild :'( But right now I'm selling 2 cars so that'll let me focus on my bikes a bit more
-
Choking Hazard
Choking hazard? Every patient room I've seen at any hospital with more than 4 beds in their ER (Yes, John C Fremont has a 4 bed ER) has a computer in every room. Let's not forget the old fashion EKGs, IV pumps etc... 26 letters in the alphabet. 10 key + symbols. God forbid someone chokes on the space bar. There's enough keys on a keyboard to choke 50+ people
-
Is this really that controversial?
That's at least how I'd handle it. The latter statement may be true about me and my dirt bike. YYYYYEEEEEEE HHHHAAAAWWW But no one sees me do it in the forest. I don't have any convictions pending. No criminal record. I don't do anything that would ruin that schools reputation.
-
Is this really that controversial?
Document the interaction that happened. Take notes. Names, date, place said. That's evidence for later. Either way, sounds like a bad school. Are you selling your body? Dealing drugs? Racing the General Lee and running from Hazzard County Sheriff? If not, what you do on your time is your business. if anyone wants to know my address, turn right at the country store. Turn off the paved road. When the road gets real screwed up, make a left and put it in 4HIGH. Follow the hills to my ranch. Rev your motor so me and the dog will hear you coming bout a mile down yonder. I always tell people I'm going to become both an RN and mechanic. Mix blue collar and scrub collar. I've met some interesting people in the same fields. Cars and nursing are the only 2 things I know. What else am I going to do? Complain about how my 1MZFE blew another knock sensor? Oh wait, that's car stuff
