go to mycoursecompass.com and buy the math lab

I am doing pre algebra also and this course is a sure A if you do the work. You will understand it. It has audio, mutimedia, example problems etc. and is and online course with class at the school I am going to. See if this class is offered in a community college near you. If not maybe you can take it online and get the credit.??? Hope this helps:-)

The integers (from the Latin integer, which means with untouched integrity, whole, entire) are the set of numbers including the whole numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, ...) and their negatives (0, −1, −2, −3, ...). In non-mathematical terms, they are numbers that can be written without a fractional or decimal component, and fall within the set {... −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, ...}. For example, 65, 7, and −756 are integers; 1.6 and 1½ are not integers.

When I took college algebra I'd been out of school for over 20 years and this time round my math classes have been my most enjoyable. If you go to http://www.xpmath.com and browse the ebooks section you'll find a book call Algebra Demystified. I went through this book before taking my placement test (I didn't want to waste time in remedial math) and tested into college algebra. The foundation was good enough to get me through both my math classes with A's.

i had to start all over too, it had been 20 years for me and i never really took math in high school, i got through on the basics one year of math. if you have a text book for the course pre-algebra should start from the beginning it should start with lessons on integers, i read my texts and did all the exercises front and back, throughout my math pre reqs. a lot of it is mental too but you do have to get it from the begining because everything builds on everything else.

what i am guessing your difficulties are, the adding and subtracting with negatives and positives? this will be a constant struggle if you don't get it now so seriously look at your book and do as many problems as you can for practice!

Hi,

:wshgrt:thank you all so much for your help.the part of this that is bothering me most is, do you simplify the negative into a positive when doing a big math problem ? and also, the adding......like what sign do you give the answer, the negative or positive? i know, i sound like a complete idiot but, i am going to learn this !!!! i am so determined to pass this class that i am making myself crazy !!!!:bugeyes::roll anyhow,i downloaded an ebook from xpmath.com and so far the answers i need are found in this ebook so, thank you so much smartferret !!!!! i will also be checking out the other websites, too. thanks everyone !!!!!!!:thankya:

it all depends Tiffanysmom,

listen if you add : -50 + 25

you have to subtract 50 (negative (-)50) from a positive number 25 (positive (+)25)

now think: +25 -50 equals -25

once you subtract 25 from 25 you get 0, you still have to subract another 25 in order to subtract the whole amount wich will give you -25

If you have any you can't figure out post them here and I will do them and try to explain the best I can. I would suggest writing down the rules on a flashcard and studying from that. Once you have them memorized you will be able to do them quickly.

Silly, but think of it in terms of money.

If you have $2 and you give Susie $1, how much is left?

Here are some rules:

when adding, the answer takes on the sign of the larger number

when subtracting, the answer takes on the sign of the larger number

when multiplying or dividing:

+ x + = +

- x - = +

- x + = -

tiffanys mom, I am 36 and just started back to school this year first taking math. I have been full time mom for 16 years and know how you can forget math. I took algebra in high school but am in pre-algebra now and hoping to take algebra over again this summer. I thought math would be hardest but now I am thinking it will be the easiest class I have to take. I got an A last semester and am going to try for an A again.
