posting grades

how long does it take for you all to get your grades?

it feels like forever and a day here!

our instructor sent out one email saying grades would be posted. that was 1 week ago.

instructor sent out another email saying grades would be posted by fri. today is saturday.

im peeved.

we had a project that took us 12 weeks to work on and we have yet to see our grade (presented/turned in almost a month ago...)

i just want to know how we did. it was a lot of damn work. not to mention we didnt ever get our rough draft back in time to do revisions for the final draft.

UGHH!! /frustrated.

for some unknown reason they expect us to juggle 800 assignments in their class plus the other bs in our other classes and clinicals..we handle it just fine yet they cant put a grade on a paper?!? unacceptable.

sorry.im peeved.

Depends on what it is. Tests are posted that day. Other things take weeks to post though!

It varies each semester with the different instructors. Exam grades are usually posted within 1- 2 days, except final exams. Papers/Projects take longer, usually about a week-10 days. This semester there has been a delay in posting final exam grades & I don't like that. Some people are still in clinicals so they won't post final grades until all clinicals are finished.Ugh!

I had my OB final on Thurs & grades won't be posted till Monday. I guess the rationale is if you fail the class then you are not gonna show up for clinicals.

so lucky they post the same day. ours take 1 full week to post grades they say "oh we dont want ur bad grade to distract you from patient care on clinical"..

really?!?!... if u let a stupid grade distract you, there needs to be a reevaluation of priorities..

I understand how you feel OP. I spent nearly 7 weeks working on a paper and project and even though grades will be posted in a few days it still feels like eternity. We usually get exams graded the same day or one day after and projects are usually graded a week later.

It does suck that your school makes you all wait a long time.

Just some food for thought…

Test grades are more objective. In other words, I can run the ScanTrons for 40 students along with the weighted questions to determine what percentage of my students missed which questions in about ten minutes. This helps me to determine if I plan on throwing any questions out.

Projects are more subjective. Did you have a presentation to give or was it a paper that was written. Either way, I will need to review the notes I took during your presentation and cross reference it with the rubric. After I have completed that, I take a look at each presenter’s grades to ensure everyone was graded fairly. That takes time to do. If you turned in a paper, thinking about how long it would take a person to read an average of 6 pages per student for a total of 240 pages.

Also, don’t forget that I am writing your next exam and preparing my lectures to ensure the content is covered. There is a significant amount of time that is required outside of class to prepare for the next chapter. My contract states that I am paid for an extra two hours per class for prep time. Today, I spent about 11 hours prepping for two courses. Also, it is the college’s policy that I must have assignments graded no later than three weeks after the due date. While it doesn’t take me that long to do, it is understood that grades generally aren’t assigned to students overnight. Also, keep in mind that instructors also have other obligations (family, committees, working shifts at the hospital, ect…)

Not trying to trash you here…I don’t think students understand the investment that is made behind the scenes in order to adequately prepare for a course.

I appreciate your perspective. Our instructors need rewards at our school. Our clinical instructor has to grade 6 papers that are at least 10 pages, she has one week to do so. Not an easy job.

Oh i totally understand. & i dont expect the grades over night/ same day..i dont want to believe it but i know u teachers have lives outside of our 3hr class LOL! I dont appreciate when they give us a lame excuse. were all adults, they can just say "hey, theres 72+ of you. you have to wait we have lives etc. & we'd be ok with that im sure.

now the project on the other hand. my clinical instructor had 6 to grade, and she doesnt teach lecture, or write tests or any of that.so between the 2 clinical groups who presented over a period of 2 weeks, on two days over a month she couldnt get it done?. time management skills seem to be lacking.

all groups did presentations, and i dont know about the others but she didnt take notes during ours.

its 2200% unacceptable to not get a rough draft back before the final is due. thats just ridiculous. furthermore its not fair, because what if there are some discrepancies on the final completed project? and we dont agree? by the time we get all this stuff back final grades will be posted and it will be hell trying to get our grade fixed if it affects it dramatically.

i wouldnt care so much if this was done around say midterm and there is time to get things fixed, but its finals im stressed. and when this crap is worth 18-20% of your total grade you'd be irritated too:crying2:

done venting lol

I'm guessing you meant she can't post your final grade because of losing the care plan? A little confused though.

I always kept electronic copies of EVERYTHING I did for nursing school on both my laptop and my desktop computers unless it specifically had to be written by hand. I would even encourage those who have them to make copies of any assignment that's required to be handwritten as well. That way there is never a chance for an instructor to conveniently misplace your assignment without recourse for you.

Keep copies of all emails, feedback, incident reports, evaluations, and assignments until well after your grades have been posted for the semester. I typically would wait until the beginning of the new semester before throwing anything out or deleting my inbox.

It takes about a week for scantron tests. I've been waiting 5 weeks for a paper grade. I'm not used to waiting this long but I'm getting used to it.

this semester all of our exams are on the computer and it tells us our grade as soon as we hit the "finish" button - so nice! We go over all of our quizzes after we take them so we pretty much know our grades right away on those too. We don't get grades for careplans or papers, so it's very easy to calculate our final grade. It'd make me crazy too if I was waiting for a week!

I took a pharmacology course over the summer before I start NS this January. It was the policy of the Nursing department not to grade any written assignments until all tests were passed with 76% or higher which is what is needed to pass the class. If test average was 75%, then the student fails the class even if their attendance, written coursework and other factors would have put them above 76%.

Our journal critique was a big part of our grade, but we were not returned the paper and grade until after we passed the final exam.
