Food allergies are different than medication allergies. Medication allergies to say penicillin, and the person is usually not put on anything within that family of medications.

Food, however...someone can be allergic to eggs but not chicken.....although with a huge amount of heartburn after some hot chicken wings, and the patient may, in fact, find themselves "allergic" to that as well...

The majority of people do not know the difference between an allergy and an adverse reaction or side effect.

Actually, if we want to discuss allergy reactions , I found a medscape link that brought back all those nasty reminders of physiology ( I actually thought it was quite fascinating)

Medscape: Medscape Access or personal perspective, I have had " allergies " most of my life. When I was young many moons ago, I had those scratch tests to find out what exactly I was allergic to. Tested postive for cat dander, peanuts, various other things. I have quite a few pet cats; they cause me no problems. But if I go to a friend's house who has long hair cats ( mine are all short hairs) I get sneezing, itchy nose, etc. Maybe I have given my self immunity from frequent exposure to short hair cats?

Peanuts: I can eat peanut butter, no problems there. That doesnt make sense.

But on the flip side of the coin- repeated exposure to nsaids such as ibuprofen have gotten worse over time. I get terrible lower abdominal burning, sometimes my skin turns red, and I feel very hot.I used to take a million various nsaids for chronic pain stuff.

I cant tolerate any fake sweeteners like splenda, aspertame, etc( I will make a horrible diabetic )Very bad abdominal discomforts for days. I heard there was a cross allergy with Sulfa, which I am allergic too(hives).

Hope the article helps , and if I was more motivated , i would look to see why some of my allergies bother me , and some don't.

Maybe that's why the person can't have eggs but chicken is ok. Or as others pointed out - the proteins in eggs are not present in chicken.
