Pets with IBD

My Kit Kat has been diagnosed with IBD, and let me just say has it been a struggle! Poor kitty had been having soft, mushy BMs for a while, and the vet finally opted for labs, US, temporary meds (since finished), and diet changes for a 6-8 week trial (currently at week 7). While on the meds, kitty actually had some semi-formed BMs, but has since backtracked to even worse than before. He’s not a fan of the hydrolyzed protein food, so kitty isn’t eating very much. I’ve also got aggression issues from one of my other cats, who doesn’t respect Kit Kat’s territory and will also hiss when Kit Kat comes out of “his” room to socialize.

Anyone else dealing with issues like this and have some tips/tricks to help me out? They are separated during meals because the special food is way to expensive to let them all eat and Kit Kat is absolutely forbidden from having anything else. That’s a change for all of them, because I’d just fill their dishes and whatever wasn’t eaten right away they could come back to munch on at their leisure. I do leave some out at night because the only way I can sleep without having to constantly remove the bully from Kit Kat’s room is to close the door to separate them.

Well. Certainly not the best of updates. My sweet Kit Kat has crossed Rainbow Bridge. Much like humans, sometimes the treatment just stops working. It's also possible the IBD turned lymphoma. His lab work was not pretty. This was the first pet I've ever had to euthanize. It hurt, but it was so peaceful, so I know Kit Kat is now at peace. Doesn't mean my eyes aren't leaking and my heart is broken though. He even got to eat the things his special diet excluded before everything happened.

I am SO sorry to read about this, Rose!  We are all too familiar with the dichotomy of feelings, knowing we did what was best for the beloved pet, yet feeling so shattered at losing such a dear part of our heart.  Gentle hugs, and do allow yourself to grieve the loss of this family member.  Again, I am so sad for you.  Be good to yourself, and eat and get some rest.

(((HUGG))).  No experience with cats -- that favorite meal must have brought a purr on I suspect. Lots a memories to pull out of your heart too.

I'm pretty sure that at first he didn't think he would be allowed. It had been two long years since he got to have such a treat.
