Pet Peeve #34685

So I am back here from Summer break (shortest 5 weeks of my life) and going through student files for in-coming Kindergarteners. I did this back in June before I left, and every student who was still missing a physical or immunization record got a phone call. I also called parents who had kids who had physicals that were about to expire. So now I am back at it, calling those who never dropped forms off during the Summer. I get the mom on the phone and tell her her child's physical expired in April and her kid needs a physical within the last 12 months to start school next Wednesday. She says "It would really have been nice if someone told me that she was due for her check-up in April". :nono: Seriously??? How is it anyone other than HER responsibility to know when the kid is sue and schedule the appointment. 99% of the kids I know (my own included) have their physicals every year within the same month- very easy to remember. Anyway, just a rant because of course now she is mad and being difficult.

    After in person orientation, letters, web updates and a text to speech, I actually had a parent ask "what's a physical?". Let the face palming begin.

    I thought I would get ahead of the game and make calls and send out letters in April and May and follow up with everything mid july.

    We've had nearly 100 adds/drops (mostly adds) in the last two weeks...

    And I swear nearly 25% have peanut or tree nut allergies lol

    I had a parent say she couldn't get immunization records because she just moved from Illinois. :confused: Meanwhile, I have parents from war-torn third world countries who have somehow managed to keep a copy of their children's immunizations from the bowels of hell all the way to America. You just gotta wonder about some people.

    That stinks. Our district does exclude, so I have been pulling that card on parents all day.

    I let them know at the time of registration. If they show up without - they are not allowed to start. Especially if missing vaccines. It has made many a parent very upset that i am actually enforcing the law and doing my job - but tough toenails. Especially to the parents that knew about all of this back in MARCH. No sympathy here. Minute clinic at CVS will happily see you and get you all the vaccines and physical you need today.

    We do the same thing with incoming kindergarteners, Flare. Our big problem is those that are already there. There is the additional Tdap and meningitis in middle school and starting this fall, our state is requiring a second meningitis for those entering 12th grade. I'm going to have a hard time getting my admin to exclude seniors. I'm going to find get the battle, though!
