whilst i was home over the bank holiday i found an old Balliers nursing dictnoary of by uncle from when he was training as a S.R.N in the late 60's.
Whilst A&P and illness and disease process have changed and not changed compared to my 2006 version. i learned a few things it listed grains, that in northern ireland it was the nursing and midwifery council for northern ireland that licensed nurses it even had a list of brand name to genric drugs etc
i found it fascinating

I think I've still got one of them! It belonged to my mother.

I just love reading those old nursing Manual's and journals sometimes though it is scarey because a lot of stuff we still practice today or we are returning to. Pity we aren't as clean as the past
it had dressing changes with forceps, however no gloves or aprons
its lists of lab values is more extensive than my current version, seems to use language that Americans, measurement and lans, latin usasge etc.

I have my grans nursing books- she qualified in the 20's. she firmly believed that all a student nurse should do in her first year of training was learn how to clean! thats all they were allowed to do in her day...

Me too.......
Yep me too
How about when the sister caught you wearing gloves when cleaning up a pt and you were told 'Oh another student who doesn't like getting her hands dirty'
Hiding when it was ward rounds and can only attend if in final year and sister would let you.
Wards emptying when it was take days and even taking turns closing for 1-2 weeks summer and winter
Oh yes me too!!and I still do the clean hand ,dirty hand thing much to others amusement.
