Passed NCLEX,no SSN yet

hi...i would like to address my question to anyone who could enlighten me on this matter...i recently passed my NCLEX-RN under the state of NY, i am aware that i could only obtain my license if i have my SSN already, which i do not have right now...our I140 has been approved couple of months back but due to retrogression, we cannot proceed to the next step yet...my friend who passed her NCLEX under California informed me that she also received a letter from her BON stating that she is given like 2-3years to obtain an SSN if she fails to do so, her NCLEX will be forfeited/revoked or something like that. I would just like to ask if this situation is the same for other states particularly for NY. When i received my official NCLEX result, there was no other letter or notice stating as to until when i am given the time to obtain SSN for my license.Hope you guys could help me with this...i appreciate your time.

Thanks much...praying for the best for us all!:balloons:

IL can give you a license but they wont allow you to renew it.. they need SSN for renewal of license..;)

Don't think there are any states which will allow renewal with no SSN

none. you need to have a social security number to match that license. all 50 states requires ssn.

NM does according to Ms. Vidaurri.;)

hi,

what if you have tourist visa, and you look for an employer who will sponsor your working visa, can you get your ssn? I passed my NCLEX

RN( New York ), but I want to work in California. What will I do first?

Shall I secure my SSN in New York first or apply for a reciprocity in California while I'm still here in the Philippines?

First of all it is the green card that is being used and what employers petition a nurse for and not a working visa.

Secondly, you must heard about retrogression. During retrogression (no visas available), only the I-140 petition (basically the job offer) that is being done and only thing that can be done during retrogression.

Adjustment of Status (AOS) is what is called if adjusting one's status from another status (i.e. from a Visitor's Visa) BUT since we are in retrogression applying/filing for AOS cannot be done since there is no visa to adjust to.

The SSN can only be applied while in the U.S. and if after showing papers that you can work legally but then again AOS is on-hold like I stated above so no use on these days of retrogression.

To get licensed in CA you need to endorse your NY license to CA's Board of Registered Nursing. You need to go to CA BRN's website and apply for Licensure for Endorsement and meet all the req'ts there. You should just go to their website and just download the forms to be filled-up, including the License Verification forms that you have to give to NY for them to fill-up and send back to CA BRN. This is much as the same way as when you give PRC the license validation form for them to fill-up and send to CGFNS or ICHP. It is the same thing but only this time you are giving a license validation form from CA BRN for NY to fill-up and then to send back to CA BRN.

I recommend reading Suzanne's "Primer" sticky and all other stickies above to guide you through.

Right now there are no visas for nurses to work in the US. Please follow the threads on this topic.

There is no factual news out as of yet, earliest that we expect anything to happen is about August, but that is not definite. And then still another 90 days before visas are available.

Hi,

thanks a lot, great help. I used to have an agency in New York with I-140 approved 2004 but my documents was pulled out by INS which my agency can't explain me the reason why it happend. I finally withdraw my application. So , no contact from my old agency from 2005 till now. Then Aug 2006, i applied again with other agency. They started filing my I-140 but no approval yet due to retrogression. This April I applied my tourist visa to attend our rotary convention, since I am a community director of our club maybe that's the reason why they approved me, but they only gave me up to July 9. Is it possible for me to go to New York and apply SSN?

Thanks.
