One Rn for 92 bed facility?

Published

Hi, all

I recently got a job offer from SNF. I am not a new grad but I don't have recent work experience and I am new to SNF. It's 92 bed facility and there is one Rn and two CNA for day shift and only one Rn ( no CNA) for night shift. Everyone there looked really nice during the interview and they offered me a job on the spot which I didn't expect. I don't really know about the patient and nurse ratio at SNF but this seems super understaffed. It's part time and on call. I know SNF is tough but also a good place to start for an inexperienced nurse like me. This is my first job interview with SNF and first SNF I applied. What do you think?

Your thoughts and wisdom are very appreciated!

I would run. That doesn't sound safe at all.

One nurse for 92 patients?!?!? Is that a typo?

That is ridiculously unsafe. Even some of the most horribly staffed snfs I've come across had ratios way better than that. Please don't do it.

Thank you newboy and nikkicb2004.

It's not a typo. hahahaha. I don't know actual number of residents there but still it is super risky.:dead:

I will keep looking for other job openings.

Thats not even legal. I dont think thats right. Find out the exact nurse-patient ratio.

I'm guessing/ hoping this is long term residential non medical care. That's the only time I've seen ratios like that.

I was 1 nurse to 50+ at one non medical long term care facility and 1 to 40+ at another long term psych mon medical facility. In both cases, there were about 1 aide to 10 Pts. All clients were independent in ADLs.

Good Lord, you're better off and safer working at walmart.

Even if the place was only half full, there's no way I would assume responsibility for 45+ patients alone in the building.

I'd wait tables, less work, same or more money, and a whole lot more ethical.

Are there lvns for meds and wound care and gtube feedings? One rn on night shift with no cna is not safe.

NO, NO, NO. That is no where legal, safe or doable or right.

There is no way that two CNAs with one nurse can even see all of the people in one shift. YOu said SNF, do you mean assisted living? There is something missing.
