office thermometer

I'm on the lookout for a new thermometer for my nurse's office. I've got a welch-allyn oral/axillary thermometer right now and I'm not in love with it. I've been told that it needs to be well tested and made to hold up to the rigors of an elementary school office. I've also been told that it needs to be less than $100. (I'm not sure those two criteria go hand in hand). What thermometer do you use in your office?

Welch Allyn Sure Temp

Mine was more than $100,

Filac 3000 EZ

Item Number: 25001

SureTemp® Plus 690 Thermometer

$245.00in the MacGill catalog. You will also get a 6% discount. And mine has lasted 6 years and counting so I think it's a worthwhile investment.

Welsh Allen Sure Temp. My original one lasted about 16 years......

Welch Allyn Sure Temp

Ditto. Use it all the time & love it. I'm K-3 and rarely have to pull out my temporal or tympanic.

Yep, SureTemp here, too.

Even when I worked in the hospital, I preferred this, and used it instead of the temporal scanner we had.

I'm not a school nurse, just a mom with a baby daddy who is obsessed with checking our child's temp. He has four thermometers. Yes, FOUR. All the same one and they all get the same reading. He replaces the batteries when needed. (I think they've each needed one at some point in 7 years).

It's the Vicks six second thermometer. They've taken their beatings, believe me. I also think that they're pretty accurate and were great when you cannot get the child to sit still for more than that amount of time anyways. I tried the ear and forehead thermometers that were pricey as heck but didn't find them very reliable. I don't see any reason to break the bank. They sell disposable sheaths or use under the arm and clean after each use.

Welch Allyn for some reason seems to always give lower than normal temps, at least that's what I've seen in facilities. I don't think I ever really have anyone with a 98.6 F temp....and those who do usually have other things going on to the trigger a sepsis screening. I was thinking maybe it's the covers.

VeraTemp +, its touchless and I love it!

I am on my second probe for my brand new Welch Alyn that does not read fevers. The company keeps telling me that Im not positioning it correctly. Funny, when I worked in the hospital and used their Welch Alyns everyday I had no problems at all! I do believe that with the younger kids it is more difficult for them to keep it under the tongue and mouth closed properly. So I switched to the Preve non contact which I love. It has come in very handy during this flu season, pretty much taking everyone's temp at this point including the staff!!

It's the Vicks six second thermometer.

When I worked in home health I used the Vicks thermometers. They are the best oral/axilary thermometers out there. Even if they crap out on you they're only $10/piece.

Yes to the Vicks!

I have 2 at home and they are by far the best. Super quick and cheap.

I currently have a ReliaMed no touch thermometer at school. It is awful, such inaccurate readings. My principal bought me an oral thermometer and I requested the Vicks but sadly I got a $2 that reads all temps at 95.4...
