Off topic: How do you keep house?

My house keeping has gotten so bad lately, that today my husband threatened to hire a cleaning lady. I called his bluff and guess what? He called a cleaning lady to come in and start this friday! :yeah: I'm so thrilled & relieved. It's been terrible trying to keep the house clean with 3 messy kids and a pig of a husband. How do you all handle juggling classes, studying, working, running kids around while keeping the house clean? I feel so blessed to finally get help!

Poorly!

No fair, you stole my answer...:rotfl:

I have a cleaning lady that comes once every other week. In between I use the swiffer a lot and always make sure the beds are made and clothes are picked up before I leave. My son and husband could care less but I can't study unless things are done. :lol2:

Keep house? What's that? :rotfl:

No, seriously, I DO get some cleaning done (I now live with an 18-year-old whose parents stop by every weekend to make sure everything's under control, the house is clean, tenants are paying rent, etc.). Every now and then the floor sees a broom and the carpet sees a vacuum. I kept a sign in one apartment I lived in. It's a girl whose pigtails are standing up and it says "Housework makes you UGLY". Nuf said.

I have been very blessed with a husband who does all of the house work (dishes, laundry, dusting, etc), and ladies... I don't even have to cook!! Of course he likes for me to (and I do at least once a week), but he is just as happy to eat a t.v. dinner. Sometimes I feel a little guilty b/c he's in school too, but he's always been the organized one, and I just really think that he likes to clean. I can't wait until we have kids....lol!!!

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for sharing the state of your house. Now I don't feel so tormented. Between school, work, 3 kids, and a very spoiled husband, I feel so overwhelmed! They are lucky if they get their lunches packed and a decent dinner out of me. I look at my house at disgust because it always looks like an F-5 tornado has blowned right through it, even though I live in California. I look at my relatives' and neighbors' homes and feel so ashamed at my terrible existence. It used to be so different when I was single. I was so proud to have a beautiful and clean place to call home. I suppose I should be grateful to even having the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse and afterall, admist all the mess is a very happy home with great kids and lazy but loving husband. Did I mention LAZY husband? Thanks again for your honesty. I know that I am not alone.

I have a cleaning lady come every other week. It helps me keep my sanity. DH and the kids aren't messy, but none of us wants to do the dreaded chores like bathrooms, vacuuming and dusting.

Be proud of me. This thread has encouraged me to clean the master bedroom and bathroom. They were really getting on my nerves. I saw my therapist today for my monthly appointment and discussed with him the fact that my dh and son don't ever help out and are so messy and how it drives me nuts. I refuse to be the only one cleaning while I work full-time also, plus I cook, I do the bills, the grocery shopping, etc....My dh works, watches TV and plays computer games. That's about it. Anyway, the adivce he gave me.....you'll love this......He said next time you are cleaning up his mess and your son is not home, let out a loud blood curdling scream, in earshot of dh and then talk. You know I think it would scare the h*** out of him. I've tried everything else, why not, I'm game!

I am so proud! I would have never thought about getting dh's attention in that way, even though It would be so fun to try!

Thanks everyone for sharing! I've loved reading your responses. :) Keep em comming!

Sounds odd, but i have lists for every room, that lists everything that needs done in it. Crossing off things on that list motivates me, worked for me for years.

When I was in nursing school, I would clean the house before I could study for an exam. I know it sounds weird, but I needed to work off some of the stress before I could sit down to study. Plus I couldn't study with dirty dishes or a messy house all around me. It worked for me. I also like to pace back and forth when I recite information for an exam. Maybe I should go back to school so I could lose 10 lbs. LOL.
