I am so unhappy with my nutrition class this semester. I totally went into it thinking it was going to be a walk in the park. Well, obviously not with the teacher I have. We seriously have at least 10 to 15 hours of homework a week for a three credit hour class, besides working, other classes, and being a mom to a 3 yr old and a baby. Its not that its hard, its just so much. I am so glad that I didn't take this class at the same time as A & P. Oh well, I guess its worth it in the end. Anyone else out there having troubles?
You know, after rereading this I sound like such a whiner. Maybe just because I'm sick. My hubby has been telling me I'm pretty crabby for the last week or so! Forgive me all!

i know it stinks and sometimes i even felt that the information was not very useful, i am a nursing student not a dietary student. however, when taking care of a pt and they ask you diet questions are you going to tell them to hold on and get someone who can help, no you are going to be knowledgable to answer this question hope this helps

Hang in there, I can't relate at all. Only thing I remember about nutrition class was the instructors lips:eek: She had them painted bright red and they were very carefully outlines with two points on the top lip. I was fascinated by them. Couldn't take my eyes off of them. They never smudged or faded. Amazing! Didn't learn a thing.:roll :roll

I kind of wish I had your problems because I am taking Nutrition online and we have no assignments, except for 2 online exams and then another exam that we have to go to physically. The first test was on Tuesday (V-day!) and it was 50 questions and we only had ONE hour to take it. I was freaking out because it said no where it was timed or anything. I only got 41/50, which for me is horrible. The average was 36/50. I feel so depressed!!

I have a class called concepts of physical wellness and it covers nutrition. This is a HALF credit course and we have a quiz EVERY week in it, lots of reading and detail stuff about muscles, excercise, etc.. cant wait till its over. It should be alteast a 1.5 credit course with the work that we have to do it there.

Different schools place a different emphasis on some things. The school that I am doing my pres at requires nutrition. Another local school , has pharmacology as a pre. Just different emphasis.
I also have nutrition this semester. Just took my first college test in 31 years and am NOT hopeful. I was fully prepared to trace the GI tract, and explain the impact of glucagon, insulin , and bile on digestive process.
Unfortunately, I missed things like cheese, and portions of fruit in my study. Things have changed in education. A friend kindly suggested that when trying to understand the concept of nurses eating their young, that it starts a long time before you even get accepted into an RN program.
You have a very good point, but think of this as nurse boot camp. They are the commanding officers, and they control the programs.

I am so sorry!!! It is kind of weird b/c it really depends on the prof. I am taking Nutrition this semester as well, and honestly I feel my class is a joke:rolleyes: I think the teacher is a highschool teacher half of the time and she treats us as such. On the other hand, I am in Microbiology and I got stuck with the hardest prof at the school. She is super strict and soooo smart and doesn't apply it, So I guess I can relate with you somewhat. Sorry:o hang in there and realize that you will be an even better nurse with much knowledge in Nutrition:mad:

I think my nutrition class is a joke too. My American lit class it the one kicking my butt. I have more work in lit than in my micro class. I had to make a decision to put my efferts on micro and just try to get by in lit. I tried to take British lit last semester and dropped because it was a nightmare. I feel like lit isn't my think and I may just have to make friends with a "C".

Sometime venting makes you feel better, so it's ok to whine every now and then. :)
We all get a little overwhelmed at times, especially when not feeling well. I hope you get back to yourself soon.
Hang in there. It's only 1 semester and you'll be through with this class/instructor.
Do your best! Your future depend on it. :)
Good luck!

I took nutrition online and it was kind of hard because all we really had was the book to read and then one exam at the end. It is hard to study for something like that when you have no idea what the professor is like and what kind of things he likes to put emphasis on. I ended up with a B which is ridiculous because most who took the live lecture class got easy A's.

Its not just your teacher. It is a very involved class. When I took that class my husband complained that he never saw me, because I was always reading or working on one of the diet studies. I think a lot of people make the same mistake as you did thinking it would be an easy class. Fortunately for me a friend I was working with at the time said her nurse friend told her nutrition was a hard class. I did not think it was hard, but yes, very involved!

I found my Nutrition class moderately hard, but really interesting. This semester I am taking Anatomy, which is SOOOOOOOOOOO much memorization, and not interesting at all. I'm about 1/3 of the way through it though, as you probably are with your Nutrition class. Your kids are very young for you to be taking a full load !
