I'd be interested in hearing about any experiences abroad as well... I've had a life-long obsession with Australia and have often thought about taking some time to go work "down under" for a bit... would love to hear from other nurses who have been there/done that!

I am a nurse in Australia, anything you want to know just ask!!

This doesnt answer your questions but it is some input on overseas work. As a kid growing up overseas w/ parents working in a american hospital, it's an obsolute wonderful experience. The travel and boarding schools is an experience I hope many kids will have. In fact, I'm switchig careers so I can go back as an adult.

I've thought about switching homes with an overseas nurse for say...a year?

I wonder if there are any programs in place that would help facilitate the switch.

Hiya Everyone

Im a US born and trained RN who has been working in Scotland for the past 4yrs and 3 months so far..

I love it here.. Even with the lower(much lower) pay than i was making in the US there is just something about the country and the people and the pace of living that i love here.

Any questions just feel free to ask..

Hi,

I have a year left of nursing school, then after working for a year or so I'd like to get ICU certified and do some travelling. My dream is to live and work in the UK or Scotland. Does anyone know if the US ICU certification would qualify me to work ICU (ITU) in England or Scotland?

Kaylesh, can you tell me the name of the agency or the way that you initially got set up in Scotland? You can PM me if you want.

Thank you so much!

I have done mission/volunteer nursing in ZImbabwe Africa and absolutely love it! I have gone 3 times (> 3 months each) and am working on getting my BSN so I can go full time. It is a small bush hospital - and the people are great! It is a mission hospital -and they would love any help they can get...

Both the Australasian and the UK forums now have "sticky" threads at the top of the forums. These threads are stull under construction but they list registration and immigration details neccessary to work in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, United Kingdom. That is about as far as we have got but if ayone has further information and would like to contribute please feel free to add to the sites.

S577 - Would love to share with you about Zimbabwe. I am in the middle of working a 3 night stretch and leave thrus am right after work for LA, we are having a CHidamoyo Reunion. I don't know how the private message thing works, but you are more than welcome to and I will try to get back to soon. There are 2 websites, one is http://www.chidamoyohospital.com and the other is http://www.chidamoyo.org - If you want to check them out.

I absolutely love it there. I just had a friend come visit from zim - and I am incredibly homesick now... he is the hospital administrator, and grew up in the bush around the mission. It fun introducing him to life here. I took him to the Seattle Aquarium and he was amazed that things live under the water!

Oh the simple life... we don't know how good we have it here in America.
