When is your weekend?

I am thinking of taking a job, but I am not sure how I will ever have a real weekend off again. 7p-7a, Weekend to work Saturday and Sunday. When I will be off weekend, I will work every Friday and Monday.

Seems to me that I will be at work EVERY Saturday, either in the morning or the evening.:bluecry1:

Is this typical for night shift?

Thanks for your insight!

Some places make their night shift weekends Friday and Saturday; that way you work Thursday night, sleep on Friday, and still have two full weekend days before going back Sunday night.

I am a night shift RN. I work 3 on and 4 off. and every other weekend. The way it sounds you would be working every saturday and prob not have a real weekend because you are going to need to catch up on sleep that saturday if you work friday night.

sat/sun schedule for nocs sucks, where I work, nocs is fri/sat, sunday starts the new week. Well, it seems in effect your weekends will be kind of split, therefore you must change your thinking to include friday as part of the weekend so when you are ON the weekend you still have all friday, friday noc, and saturday to enjoy. when your off the w/end you will have half of sat ( half day for sleep), saturday noc and all of sunday, that sounds better doesn't it??

what's worse is when your scheduled to work friday on your weekend on, and if it doesn't 'count' as a weekend shift you are screwed for ALL of the weekend, many places do this, if you definitely have your fri/monday set ( off) on your weekends on, your lucky and at least you can plan your life somewhat... If I am off the that night, I usually try to get up by noon so I will be able to sleep normally that night. That would give you Saturday evening and all day Sunday including evening. I guess if I wanted to go out Saturday evening, I would have to sleep a little longer, because I'm usually ready for bed by 9PM!

No matter how you look at it, Night shift gets cheated!

One of the few good things about my ex-hospital... weekends are defined as 7pm Friday night through 7am Monday morning. We were only required to work 4 weekend shifts per schedule (4 week block).

They are still an Evil Empire, though.

*sigh* What weekend? lol I work night shift weekend option. I work every Thursday, Friday, Saturday night. I pick up a lot of Wednesdays too. I get one weekend off per quarter. A lot of people don't like it, but it works for me and the money is good. :)

OK, I am very jealous!!!!!! That schedule would be heaven:heartbeat

I am one of the unlucky that never gets a full weekend off unless I am off sick or take a vacation day. . I work all friday nights that are not my "weekend" then our weekend consists of sat and sun night. It really sucks....been doing it almost two years, am getting to the breaking point, and I swear NO ONE ever leaves our hospital or department. I could be waiting freakin' 10 years for a decent schedule.

I tend to scatter my vacations days so I can have a few long weekends rather that a big two week block at once...that helps a little

When I've worked night shift, the places I've worked did not distinguish weekends from weekdays so it didn't matter. A person would have to have some kind of special arrangement to avoid working weekends. These employers also didn't pay weekend or night shift differentials either.

word of advice....

your weekends are what you make them...

if you work nights... a weekend does not have to be sat/sun...

some of the best weekends can be wed/thur...

you are in nursing... saturday and sunday is not a weekend...

2 days off in a row is a weekend....

keep that in mind.... and enjoy~~~
