You did the best thing to get it out of your system and vent.
So now relax, it is not the end of the world. Everything has a solution except death. I am so sorry you did not pass, but hey you can further prepare yourself and take it again...no biggie. I know it might have meant more to you to pass it the first time, but life happens and you get many more chances yay!!
After, you feel better then you can start hitting those review guides and now you know what to expect. There are many who have taken it over and over until they passed it and now are successful and productive nurses. You will pass it even if it takes a few tries. Please don't cry anymore and smile cause life goes on and you have lots to give :)

A girl I work with took the exam 3 times, didn't pass, and then took it a 4th time and is now an RN. She was determined to do it. She wasn't slow or dumb, test just made her nervouse. The point is, she didn't give up her dream of wanting to be a nurse. You can do anything you set your mind to. The exam isn't easy and from what I hear, it's gotten harder. So take a deep breath, feel good about your self, you graduated from college, that alone is a big accomplishment. Start reviewing, maybe somone you know local can help you review for the exam. Hang in there and keep smiling!

I find myself amazed by the number of nurses who did not pass the boards the first time. We hired 4 GN's, only 1 passed boards on the first try, 2 on the second try, and 1 after the third try. I think that since they went to the computerized system a few years back, that it has adversly affected the pass rate. I took the paper and pencil test 14 years ago and it was rare that a nurse did not pass now it seems to be pretty common so I would tell you not to be to horribly disappointed, you would be susprised how many who have taken the computerized version do not pass. I beleive timed answers and the inability to return to previous questions has a lot to do with it.

hi haynurse know how you feel. I failed when i took my boards for the first time on june 23rd. I studied so hard for over a month ....I took kaplan... I was ready but on the day of my test i panicked. I actually called my mom and cried before i went in i thought i was going to throw up....iwhen i got in the test i was so panicked and anticipating the computer to shut off. I went all the way to 265 and after i cried too....i found out 2 days later i failed.....i was soooo upset i was a mess for 24 hours and even now i get bummed about it .....you will feel better ....you get to take it again and youll get your printout of how you did and you'll know where to study i scored near passing on all so im just doing questions every daybecause i know i know the info its understanding the question i need to practice.....remeber that you have an edge now you know the test youve seen it...yes you will not get the same questions but you know what theyre looking for and they're will be less anxiety about what to expect. I take the boards again in august. your not alone alot of new nurses fail boards so far 4 of the people in my class failed 2 at 75 ques. and 2 at 265 ques. You'll pick yourself and begin to prepare again you got through nursing school and youll get throught this .......my prayers are with you .....hope this helps:)

Honestly, I don't know how anyone passes that ridiculous test. I can remember feeling totally unsure of all of the questions that I received. My friend took the test the first time and failed. The second time that she took the test she passed with seventy five questions. She told me that the second time around she wasn't nearly as stressed and thought that it was actually easier. Hang in there. Go to a review course, do practice questions every day (at least 50), and also do some things for yourself to decrease your stress level- go out to dinner, get a manicure, etc. If you continue to dwell on your failure you will never succeed, except to make yourself more stressed. Best of luck to you. Don't give up now! You've graduated nursing school which is a feat in and of itself. Now all you have is one little hurdle left to jump.

Haynurse,
I'm so sorry that you didn't pass. I know that's got to be a horrible let down. Please take care of yourself, and remember, there are others in your shoes.
Welcome to allnurses. I see that you are a new user. You may want to go over to the NCLEX forum. There are other nurses who are studying for the NCLEX, and some are in your shoes right now. You can discuss studying tips there, what to do if you don't pass, how to study differently. You may want to post over there and maybe you can get some more answers there as well.
Once again, I'm sorry you didn't pass... please don't give up. You CAN do this and you will!! ((hugs))

Don't be so hard on yourself! Like mydesygn said most nurses don't typically pass the first time. There are going to be a lot of times in life where you have to try again. Continue to express how you feel, and you will find many others that can relate. Best of Luck!

It's a test! Therefore, it really only truly tests your ability to write a test, not how smart you are, or how truly a good nurse you are. You can't test the things in nursing that are truly valuable, like how much you care about your patients. Chin up! Consider this a learning experience. Take a few days, get yourself together, and go back and study. Don't forget to take care of yourself.
And come and vent here any time, it's what we're here for!
sometimes you think you are the only one who has ever done anything wrong. I went back to school after being out 35 years and graduated with my ADN in june 2005 it was pretty had and many thought i would not make it so when i did not pass on the 1st try i feel like they were all right. still haveing a bad day BUT tomorrow it will be gone you are all great thanks
