I need some help. I'm in a very bad situation. I enrolled in a 4 year BSN program & all was going well until I was diagnosed with cancer at the start of my junior year. I failed maternity due to me absences with class for treatment. I had to wait a whole year to continue & passed it the second time round. Then I moved on to medsurg & the same thing happened. I've been kicked out of my school due to failing 2 upper level nursing courses.
I really want to be a nurse but things are just so difficult. They are telling me I have the option of appealing, but I'm scared I won't make it through. Should I start looking for other schools or pick a new major? I'm so lost.
Please someone give me some advice! I'm down & out right now. Thanks.

I would try the appeal, as well as applying to other schools. I'm thinking about you and sending you hope and encouragement.

Definitely appeal! You have rights, I would look into finding a lawyer maybe at the college if their is a law school there might be a help center where they can possibly provide you with information for free law advice.
So I'm going to try & appeal as well as apply to other schools, but so far i think no other school will take me. most say 2 failures in nursing classes will not be considered. I'm really at a loss. where should i go?

An appeal, accompanied by some of your more pertinent medical records, would probably be a very powerful thing. After all, you didn't drop out because you felt like it; you were diagnosed with cancer - that's a very big deal. If they are offering an appeal, that's a good thing. Ask them or your doctor(s) what medical documentation can be provided to explain the situation you were in (I wouldn't think you'd have to get super personal with this; just something to indicate your diagnosis and treatment plan).
In the meantime, start examining your other options and be upfront about asking other schools what classes would transfer from your old school. But definitely try the appeal also - best wishes to you!

I am sorry to hear about what you have been going thru, and I would appeal this. While I was in school we had two students diagnosed with Cancer in the third semester of a five semester program, and they had to miss days for treatments, but my school and the nursing department made arrangements to allow them to make up any class time or clinicals missed. I hope everything will work out for you, and I will keep you in my prayers.

I would appeal. I am sorry for what you are going through with your illness. Has no one suggested to you that you take a break from school until you are better able to deal with classes? Surely your school has services to support those in your position don't they?
I understand your desire to carry on regardless but it cannot be great for your mood/esteem to get knocked back like this.
