thank you for posting this....this actually angers me. as a student who is just about to enter a bsn program, it sounds like this "project" will make it even harder for me to find a job when i graduate. i don't understand, what nursing shortage??? new grad nurses can't even find jobs so how is there a shortage?? doesn't make sense to me...... will those candidates for this project even want to be nurses? or will it just look like a quick way for them to make money?? i sure hope not....
it must be nice to get free tuition to get a bsn while those like me need to pay for them out of our hard earned money.....

It doesn't make much sense to me either. It's great to help the unemployed, vets, and their spouses but the end result could be more unemployed nursing graduates and another $5 million in the hole.
unquestionably, i just wanted for everyone to be aware and have the facts via this article, i wish you both the very best in all of your future endeavors, as i send you a hug from across the miles...aloha~

Time to write Letters to the Editor, informing the public that they are going to have to pay more umemployment for out of work graduate nurses.
The public is clueless, and does not, and will not, know that is really going on until you educate them.
Nurses need to take a page from teachers, who go right to the public with their complaints and concerns.
JMHO and my NY $0.02.

I was amazed when I heard this on the local news. I preceptor student nurses and none of them ever have any hopes about being employed. Their attitude is that there is no point in applying until after they take their boards, and will take any position just to get into obtaining that magical "one year's experience neccessary" for every job that is posted...

Considering we are just barely beginning the baby boomers retirement this is vital to the next 30 years as they are all flocking to Arizona's cheap cost of living. Competition is always good!

*** It's not competition. It's tax payer subsidies to create an over supply situation.
Over supply when the largest generation of Americans will be retiring and aging now and exponentially more with each year? Arizona holds one of the largest population of retirees in the country.
*** Well I will believe it when I see it. Lots of boomers retirment plans have been trashed by the economy. We will see.
Yes over supply. The has never been a nursing shortage since I became a nurse 17 years ago. Certainly there have been times when there were more nursing jobs available, but not due to a shortage of nurses. The "nurse shortage" is only false, self serving propaganda put out by those who stand to gain financialy from a glut of nurses. It worked, they are winning and have the profits to prove it. Even worse the have been assisted in doing so by the US tax payer. Certainly they were assisted by the bad economy, but it only moved the day of over supply up a few years.
The US demographic is one of a few healthcare challenges coming to a head. I have a feeling healthcare will be one of the next unsustainable US bubbles that burst.

Granted that nurses have suspended their retirements and patients have suspended their elective procedures but the fact remains that they are only getting older, and sicker. Eventually we will see a dramatic increase in the patient population and a decrease in the again nursing population.
The expected flood has turned into a trickle but that does not mean that there is not a lake behind the damn.
