Name Badge Credentials

I think it's too bad.

My facility puts my licensure after my name; then on the second line they allow one degree and one certification.

Magnet Hospitals want all of your credentials on your badge.

It is too bad that a Hospital doesn't allow your credentials, you work hard for them and deserve to have them displayed. Patient also deserve to now what credentials thier caregivers have.

I agree with you guys, but you have to admit...people can get a little liberal in their definition of "credential". I've actually seen something similar to this:

We are getting new badges this year. There is a list of approved credentials. RNC is approved (but not RNC-OB). IBCLC is not approved either.

We only do degrees, not acls bls pals etc. cause you really can have alaphabet soup!

I agree that credentials should be allowed but limited, I certainly think if you have a certification in your speciality that should be on your name tag.

Our facility doesn't do last names either, but it's supposed to be for our protection. That way if a patient has an issue with you, like in the ER or something, they ccan't go look you up in the phone and drop by. I think it's a good idea. We don't do credentials either, but probably will start since we're trying to get Magnet status.

I think magnet wants last names on the badge as well, not positive, but that is when we started putting our last names on our badges. I don't like it, for the reason stated.

How do you feel about hospitals not allowing their nurses' degree credentials; e.g. BSN, MSN, Phd, to be listed on their name badge? Is this a common practice?

Well, granted, I'm just a little old diploma nurse. I only have the title of "RN" behind my name. But, I am very proud of it. I do believe that if a person goes on to further their training and education, they should be able to display as such on their name tag. It's not easy to earn those degrees. And, if I did decide to further my education, I would also want people to know that I did so. I don't think it has anything to do with who is better than who. I only believe that people should be recoginized for their dicipline, their will to succeed, and their accomplishments. Just remember, what we do as CNA's, LPN's, and RN's is a very specialized field. Not everyone can do it. Or should I say do it with compassion and intelligence. For that, I am extremely proud of my diploma and of those who choose to work in the same field as I do. We all come from different walks of life and we chose our profession for different meanings. Still, we need to be recognized for our desire to improve, not only for ourselves, but for the healthcare system as a whole. Just my 2 cents. God love you all who go into work everyday knowing that your day if probably going to be chaotic. And thank you, for sticking it out.

i don't want people knowing my last name unless i give it to them. too many weirdos out there.

and as far as credentials, i dunno. i guess since i've been a patient lots of times, all i cared about was that i had a good nurse, not how many years they went to school or how many cert tests they took.

mine is just like my signature, Allison B, NREMT-P, LPN.
