N E 1 Else having a hard time finding a Hospital LVN position?

Published

I am a soon to be Grad. One month to go!!! YAY!!!! I am wanting to go to work like the day after I graduate. I plan on taking the remainder of my pre- req's for the RN transition and working full time. But I am having a very hard time finding a Hospital in my area that even hires LVN's.

This concerns me, I am afraid if I go LTC I will lose my skills.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am in Ft. Worth and have no idea what to do next?

One month and counting!!!!

Unfortunately this is becoming more common all over the US. With cost such a facto for facilities, and now with new rulings beginning to go into effect, it is easier for most facilities to hire just RNs. Assessments must be done by an RN on every patient every shift. So there still needs to be x-number of RNs per patient load to cover this.

Depending on the program that you are in, you may find out that you can get a nurse tech position in a facility that will at least give you your hospital experience that you desire. You won't be using your actual license but you will get the training that you are looking for if you can't find anything else.

I'm just a student myself, however, I did look on JPS's websites and they have several positions posted for LVN's. Don't know much more than that. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, I am fully aware of their openings, but those are all clinics. I want to be on the floor in a Hospital.

First of all, Congrats! Hard work will pay off.

Second, LTC do have SNF units where you can get your IV, and much more. I take care of foleys, IV, peg, and much more. I am also able to have more time for school r/t the hours are usually only 8, and I can school in am, work in PM.

If you are going to RN, you already have a leg up r/t the LVN, and most hospitals will hire RNs with some patient interaction (LVN).

I know this is not what you are wanting to hear, but give it a shot. It may surprise you. Hope all the best.

(I am in Abilene with 2 hospitals, there are only 6 positions open, 5 of which are for TDC in corrections, the 6th, you have to have so many years experience for wound care.)

GOOD LUCK!

In my area (southeast pa), they have pretty much stopped hiring LPN's in hospitals, too. I think the only LPN's that are in the hospitals are the one's that have been there for a long time. Sad, but true.

I currently work in an acute rehab hospital and they hire LPN's. We still have IV's, central lines, hang blood....etc. That may be an area to look into if you can't find something else.

And as another person posted, sub-acute/skilled nursing isn't what it used to be. You will use your skills (and pick up a whole lot more) working in those areas.

Good luck to you!

I live in Ft worth and have never had trouble finding a job. JPS hires LVN's , the pay is not all that great, but the experience you get makes up for it. I think Baylor All- Saints is all RN but I think I seen an ad for LVN's with the Harris system. Have you looked into the Lifecare or Vencor hospitals? Where all have you tried and what part of Ft Worth do you live in? Are you looking for a certin area of nursing to work in?

Hey, on the SNF's do you actually get IV starts??? How many would you say you do in a month?

Hey you 2, thanks for posting about the Sub Acutes/SNF's that gives me another option to look into.

How many patients are you in charge of?

There is no way that JPS is a all RN hospital . They are hurting for nurses and hire LVN's. I know, I trained there at there nursing school (when it was opened)and worked with many LVN's.

I looked at their website and think you need to goto the hiring office . It is at the resource one connection center. This online listing deal has not been updated and is not accurate. They have pages and pages of openings for nurses. If you get to thinkning about LTC let me know, I have insight there as well. My job is hiring right now but that is alzheimers care. I have had good expereinces at the Vencor and Lifecare hospitals.

Here in St. Pete, FL new grad LPNs are having a hard time finding hospital jobs too. Experienced LPNs are finding it a bit easier. I have a friend that just finished LPN school that has worked as a tech in a hospital and wants to stay working in med-surg and has been looking for a job for three months without success.
