I'm a new LVN graduate. The last day of class our instructors devoted the whole day to help us fill out and organize the paperwork that we have to send to the boards to take our exam.
After almost a month, our checks are finally cashed, so we are all anxiously waiting for the dates when we will be able to take our exam for our license.
A month after that... we all get the same letter from the Board of Vocational Nursing saying that they will not be able to process our application because our school forgot to put its seal on it.
We called the school and they are waiting for the board to send all papers back so they can put the seal and send it back for revision. :angryfire:
So now what happens? how long would it take for me to be able to take the test, and how long to receive my license (given that I pass)? Applications for transition programs are between Sept. 1 and Oct. 1 for most colleges around here. Will I have enough time to apply? or will I have to wait till next semester?? How about the whole "take your exam within 2 months of graduating" ?
Just a little venting going here...

I am so sorry that happened! That must be frustrating, I hope they work it out soon for you!

I can only imagine your frustration with the school. That sucks!!:trout: How long it will take depends on the time that it takes your BON to get your applications back to the school. I would guess that the school would see it as top priority once they get your apps back. Have you tried to contact the BON to see about how soon they are sending them back to the school? You will probably have to wait for the BON to process them once they get the apps back. I can not remember how long it took mine to get processed and get my ATT. OH! One other thing: is the school going to notify you when they get them completed et re-sent to the BON or do you have to call them to check? Good luck!

I'm not one of those sue happy people in our litigious society, but this screams lawsuit to me. All the students lost wages (including delay d/t continuiing education whatever) d/t the schools failure of thier responsibility. Has this happened at this school before, if so then I say definitely lawsuit time, sometime $$ aret he only thing that sends a message strong enough to make change happen.

Since you are talking of LVN program, sounds like you are in CA by the rest of your post. If so, in CA you do not pay for your license until you take and pass the NCLEX-PN exam. It takes about three weeks on average for them to get the letter to you that you passed, along with the bill for the license. You send that in, then in about a week, you have a license number issued to you.
But this problem is with your school, not the board that overseas the LVN license. They are not at fault at all here.
Moving thread to the NCLEX Forum since it is specific to licensing and that exam.
Best of luck to you.:balloons:
We haven't paid for our license yet, because we haven't passed the exam. lol. The money that was sent was to initiate the application process. We know very well that the BON has nothing to do with this, they are doing what they are supposed to in the case that an app. is incomplete. As for the school... well, they are not returning calls, we can't find anyone to tell us what's going to happen, the people that have gone to the school have not been able to talk to anyone but the School's Dean, who doesn't know what to do. In another note, we recently found out that this is not the first time this happens.. .it is the second time.
For now, we can only be frustrated there's nothing else we can do. Nobody wants to accept responsibility nor even tell us what's going to happen next.
So we'll see what happens. I'll keep you informed. Thanks for all the advise :)
Peace,
Vivi
Just a quick follow up on this...
We finally got a letter from the boards, authorizing us to sign up for the test :) Two hours on the computer trying to figure out how to do the process and $200 later... I was able to schedule my test for September 29th. Now I'm just trying to study and prepare for this. Please keep me in your prayers, or cross your fingers for me :)
Now, that we all have a date for the test we are more calm, and ready to take on that test.
OK.... I PASSED!! YAY! :w00t:

This happened waaaaay back when I completed my CNA training at a community college. Our certification exam was delayed for the same reason- the school didn't put their seal on the documents.
