Making the Dean's list

Published

Hey yall... so today I found out my school was giving out letters for the students who made the Dean's list...

Every person I knew was asking me... was I going to the ceremony... mostly because my grades and GPA is great....

Now I'm sitting here thinking.. why didn't I get an offer... last semester my GPA was 3.7.. the semester before that 3.0...

Who would be the right person to talk about this???

Someone at your school?

Someone at your school?

I know... someone at my school... but who?? Administration? Counselor?

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Are you full time, my school requires 12 credits in the semester and at least a 3.5 gpa. I would ask your advisor.

Specializes in Critical Care Transport, Cardiac ICU, Rapid.

Got mine in the mail today:^), but yeh what person above said. normally requires at least 12 credits enrolled

There may be a GPA average. because 3.0 + 3.7 = 6.7. Divide 6.7 by 2 = 3.35. Dean's list may be average 3.4 or 3.5 and above. It may be that even though you are close, you haven't met the cut-off. Check your school guidebook regarding grades, what constitutes cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude. many schools use that to distinguish honors.

Also, your other semester grade may not have been high enough to meet the requirement.

Congratulations on your grades!! Nice job. Keep up the great work

At my school Dean's List is done semester by semester. You must get a 3.75 semester GPA.

However, I know that the norm is usually a 3.5 GPA, and some schools do Dean's List by the year rather than by the semester:

Specializes in ER/Tele, Med-Surg, Faculty, Urgent Care.

I got curious and checked the local university. Deans list is done per college, for Arts & Sciences it is the top 15% for each semester. For Fall 2015 the GPA was 3.878.

Did you drop any classes? Besides GPA, my school takes into consideration credits attempted vs completed. My last prerequisites semester, I had a 4.0 with two 4 credit classes , but I had dropped my 2 online classes (I moved and was without Internet for a few weeks), so I didn't complete a high enough percentage of my initial credits, even though I dropped before the drop date and it didn't affect my GPA

So I checked my student handbook... to qualify for dean's list, you must have at least 12 credits and GPA of 3.4 to 3.6 per semester.... and president list is at least 12 credits and a GPA of 3.7 and up...

Now like I said.. last semester I got had a GPA of 3.76 and 13 credit hours for that semester ... I never withdraw from any classes my whole 2 years of attending the school... but I will call tomorrow to make sure the student handbook is right...

Thanks guys for your responses

If they take the average of every semester, this is why you did not get the letter. You did great with the semester of 3.7 but when you average it with other semesters, it just falls short. Also, what were the grades from previous semesters? That might also be taken into account.

If it is a semester by semester, without including previous semesters then yes, you did make President's list!! Perhaps the award ceremony is for the average, not just a great semester
