Makeing 80k

How can I, a new grad from a BSN program make 80k a year without having to get a master's. I am currently working prn at a hospital. the pay would be nice if the hours were consitant. Should I try and work somewhere else? Work two jobs? Can a travel nurse work in the local area and still be considered a travel nurse? oh well off to work!

I live in mid-Michigan and made 80K last year working OT plus a PRN job. I could have made much more just sticking with OT at my FT job, but having the PRN job to go to gave me a break from the ER and allowed me to keep my sanity.

I live in Texas, have an associates degree, earned $72,000 last year, and could have easily broken the $80,000 mark if I really wanted to do so.

I have a PRN job that pays $36 hourly plus a $6 shift differential per hour, and I typically work three days per week at this place. When I work the occasional fourth shift, I am paid at an overtime rate that adds up to more than $57 hourly. In addition, I work a couple of days per month at a corporate-owned nursing home where my PRN pay rate is $33 hourly with no shift differentials.

Not nice Noahsmama.....anyway...I have worked 25+years in MA and with OT my current gross income is 120,000 at a small community hospital...in it for the long haul I guess........

What did I say that wasn't nice? I'm truly puzzled?

Edited to add:

I've gone back and looked at my posts. MandaRN94 seemed to think I was responding to her, even though I had quoted, and was responding to, Orange Tree. I was explaining that that wasn't the case, that's all. I didn't mean for it to sound mean, although re-reading it I guess I could see how it might be taken that way.

This is the problem with written communication, where you can't hear tone of voice. If you could hear my tone of voice, you would know that it was a simple, neutral explanation.

Hey, no charge for that extra "e" so you're already that much ahead!

Get a couple of years of experience under your belt and then start applying to travel companies. It is possible to be a "local travel nurse", but some companies have restrictions written into the contract stating that that you must live at least 50 miles away from the contracted workplace. It is great money and the experience is valuable.

Depending on the area, here is your answer. PRN Float, or travel float. Gotta have the skills though.

Last year I brought in over 80k (I wanna say 85k). I work PRN in the DC area and bring in $38/hr plus differentials. Last year I was working 3-4 12's a week, including taking 4 weeks of vacation.

This year I expect my salary to be alot less as I've really cut my hours down due to starting an MSN program. Now, I'm only doing 2 12's a week.

Get 20 years of experience and you will make 80k

If you're referring to the Bay Area in California, it would be more accurate to say that IF you can find a job, there is a very good chance it will pay at least 80K. However, it's not accurate to say that one can "easily" find a job here.

I wasn't specifically referring to that area, but what you say probably applies to any area with $600,000 "decent" houses ...so you're right!

I earn over $80,000 a year in the CICU, with NO overtime. Just straight hours. And yes, I have 20 years of experience.
