Low GPA?

Published

My GPA is low-----2.8. It sucks but unfortunately I can't undo the past.

I have an AA degree, completed all prerequisites and work in the OR.

All I have left is to take the NET+TEAS then, I can apply.

I plan to study hard and apply to a myriad of schools but, I was just wondering if there was anybody else in the same boat as myself?

Applied with a 2.54 and got a 88 on the NET first try ( school limits attempts to two ) and I got in first try. I had a pretty solid background and references.

Yes it is doable!

WOW! thanks so much! you just gave me the extra push, thanks!

just wondering which schools you guys applied to?

I have a 3.04 ( not much higher than you) I'm almost done with school and I will be applying to a plathora of school as well; whatever you do keep moving forward my friend, one school will accept you ;) . I'll keep you posted with my journey see if someone takes me as well. Good luck!!

I've got the opposite situation: A 4.0 GPA for the last semester, an overall current GPA of 3.6 and I just scored a lowly 73% on the TEAS. I'm not too hopeful about getting into the Nursing Program for the fall....

Good luck to us!

I think it REALLY depends on the school. The reason I say this is bc I am in a similar situation. My undergrad GPA from 10 yrs ago was 2.6 or so... my science prereq GPA until now is a 4.0. So cumulatively that still is not a 3.0. I received my first acceptance into a nursing program yesterday that has rolling admissions. I also went into Open House at Adelphi in NYC where, they pretty much accept you for BSN program as long as you have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. For them it does not matter how long your previous degree was from, whether it was 1 year ago or 50 years ago, as long as you have 3.o cumulative and pass the NET. I think different schools emphasize different things and if you show dedication now, there will be a program that you can start.

My overall GPA is 2.7. During my first trip through college I had a "2-O and GO!" attitude. I was going into the USAF and planned on being a lifer. Didn't happen though.

My pre-reqs are 3.77. My CC uses a pt system using the pre-reqs only plus the NAT.

You can go to NS, you just have to find one that doesn't use overall GPA.

I got into a bsn second degree program and i had a 3.0. Don't let anyone discourage you about your gpa!

If anyone who had a low GPA and got accepted into a nursing school (BSN) is willing to disclose what nursing school and where, please please let us know! (feel free to message me privately if you don't want to mention it here).

I have a low GPA too. I have two C's on my record (Statistics and General Chemistry), which are prerequisites for basically ALL nursing schools country-wide. My total GPA is about a 3.4 (including non-prereq classes), and my prerequisite GPA (depending on which school...) is around a 3.4-3.6. My TEAS is an 87.5% and my NET is in the 98th percentile. I'm really looking for schools who will accept me--no matter where they are located!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS-I applied to (and was rejected from) Cal State East Bay for Fall '09 already! Really feeling the stress.

Don't be overly focused on your GPA. I know the school I go to takes many things into consideration. Community service, particularly if nursing related and experience in any related work are important. Also most schools require an essay of some sort. I know many faculty that are upset by the low level of writing many nursing students exhibit in classes so I bet a VERY WELL WRITTEN :D essay would help a lot also. My school did interviews also so presentation and enthusiasm were also important.

Optimism and hope will help you find a school that matches you well. A big consideration is who you are, what you have to offer and why you want to be a nurse ;).

Best of luck to all and realize once the whole thing is done GPAs don't matter much :uhoh3:.

In SoCal 2.8 is all you need to get into any ADN program... its almost all lottery system so no one cares what your GPA is as long as you meet the minimum requirement. Dunno where you live but let me know if you had any questions on the programs out here.
