Are you required to buy a lab coat for your program? I'm really just curious because it never crossed my mind that I would need one, and I've never seen a nurse wearing one. Do you wear it for clinicals? I'm just a little confused... :)

I've never seen students wearing lab coats, just scrubs/uniform.

We do have to have a lab coat.

We are required to purchase lab coats. The only time we use them is for clinical prep. We cannot wear our scrubs since we are not actually on the floor but they identify us to the staff as people who can be using the computers.

This is also why I am required to have one.

We only wore ours when we would go the day/evening before clinicals for clinical prep, if you didn't feel like wearing scrubs. That meant, dress in business casual and slip on the lab coat. I only wore it once. I felt kind of tacky in it. From that point forward I wore my scrubs for clinical prep too.

Like the others, we wear it the day before clinicals for clinical prep. Some people choose to wear their scrubs instead. I like the lab coat.

We need to have one, which we purchased through our bookstore. We're using them for simulation lab.

When we were in the simulation lab at our school we could either wear scrubs or a lab coat. The explanation we were given was that it was another component that made the simulation feel real, as if we were an actor wearing a costume. Our lab instructor said that it makes it seem more real

This is the same for our program. We use them weekly.

We are required to purchase them; I haven't started the program yet so I don't know exactly what all we will be wearing them for but I do know that we wear business dress with the lab coat for mental health clinicals.

We also had to purchase lab coats for our program. I guess I'll find out more about why during orientation next month.
