Not the beautician.

Please stop coming to my office to ask for crap like nail files or hair clips.

:angryfire

My favorite is when they come in asking for a change of clothes or clean socks....then get really ***** because I don't have those things. Sometimes I think the teachers think that there's a magic fairy that delivers all odds and ends to the nurses office. :angryfire

Don't feel bad............it happens in LTC too.

The other day I was standing at my med cart......dressed in scrubs per normal.......drawing up insulin into a syringe. Suddenly a group of about eight or ten people came rushing into the building with cake and all sorts of party goods for one of the residents on my floor, and one of them called to me, "Hey, could you get us some napkins?"

Now, ordinarily I just let this sort of thing run off my back, but that day the absurdity of the request hit me and it was all I could do not to burst out laughing. That had to be one of the top 10 dumbest things I have ever been asked for in the nursing home. I mean, the last time I checked, my name badge said "RN" in big black letters---I wanted to ask them how do you mistake a nurse for the maid? And why didn't you bring your OWN napkins along with all the other crap you dragged in (and which we will no doubt have to pick up after your party is over)?

Of course, I said nothing of the kind, and very politely directed them to the kitchen---I was on an insulin run, and had no time to be playing Flo the waitress. Ridiculous.:icon_roll

My vice principal got a little huffy with me a few days ago because I had no more girls uniform shirts. Mind you, the shirts I have were given to me by the librarian (who got them from the high school llibrarian). They went like hotcakes for blood? NO! for dirt? for ripped shirts? NO! For kids who come out of uniform and never return them to me!

She stated "but, I promised this girl I would give her a shirt!"

My response: If you give me some money - I will be happy to go buy some more. Remember, my yearly budget is $130!

On the out of uniform issue - I had this problem also until I started holding their out of uniform shirt for "ransom" until I get mine back. Solved that problem really quick! They can change in my bathroom and at the end of the day, come and change back into their shirt and I get mine back.

Good idea! I have been too trustworthy! But in a way, now that I have no more - I get a certain satisfaction by saying "No - I am fresh out! So sorry!"

I'm two weeks away from wrapping up my school nurse gig to return to my true nursing love, obstetrics, but since I'm a school nurse for 2 more weeks...

I can relate! My students always look at me in shock like I'm failing to do my job if I tell them I don't have any safety pins, but I just smile and say "I'm a nurse, not a seamstress!" Usually they smile and go on their way without much fuss.

I wonder if these same people go to beauty salons and ask the staff there to check their blood sugar and take their BP?

I am a sub for 3 districts and one of the nurses I sub for takes all the Lost and Found clothes at the end of the year and sends them to the Life Skills classroom where they are washed and dried by the students in class. When someone comes in that needs clothes, she points to the Rubbermaid Tote and lets them find something. Recycling at its finest, I tell ya!
